Subject: [IOWA] Broderick Diary pp 67, 68 WALLER reference
"MONDAY, JAN. 22 (1877) We went down the town and called at the Railway Station for the California Wine which had arrived; it had been more than three weeks in coming. In the afternoon we went to Horseford & Watters' store to meet John Clarkson who we heard was likely to be there. He is looking thinner, but quite healthy. He says his wife is not well. He buys wheat and hogs, a quantity of which he had brought into Dubuque for sale. He speaks highly of the land about Marcus, near LaMars, & Cherokee near the Missouri, which he says can be bought for from $6 to $25 per acre. We had heard that his mother and family were coming but John says he does not know whether she is or not. He returned last night. In the Evening we went to sit with Mr. and Mrs. Coates. They told us that her brother, John R. Waller, is going to be married to a Catholic young lady on Wednseday; they would rather have had him marry a Protestant."
NOTES "John Clarkson was born in England and emigrated to Dubuque in 1850. He owned a 162-acre farm three miles southwest of Centre Grove. Childs, Dubuque County History, 925; Dubuque County Directory, 47.
I sought information on my g g Grandmother Mary Ann CLARKSON b Arklow
about 1798 some weeks ago from this list as well as the Wexford and
Wicklow lists.
This resulted in a response leading to:
1. Confirmation of her marriage to Stephen Boyce of Ferns on 19
February 1819
-------------------
2. Discovery of some marriages of other Clarksons from the region who
may or may not be connected to Mary Ann:
1791 CLARKSON, John of Arklow, grocer to Bowland, Esther 13 May of
Co Wicklow, spinster
1794 Cullen, Michael Payne to CLARKSON, Ellen (or is it Eleanor?) 7
July Grm/Schoolteacher/Ark. Bride/Widow. Marriage License date.
Rathdrum

Eleanor?) spinster, 27 Oct. N.C. Grm from Ballymoney, Wex. Bride

Elizabeth Byrne, Arklow
1874 Byrne, Stephan to CLARKSON, Mary 7 July Thomas &
Mary/Thomas & Mary. W: James O'Brien & Mary Byrne. Knocknamohill/
Coolahullen Arklow
-----------------
3. Discovery of some Clarkson births/christenings that may also be
connected, namely:
1819 Eliza CLARKSON
1837 James CLARKSON
1839 Anne CLARKSON
1840 Elizabeth CLARKSON
1843 Elizabeth CLARKSON
1843 Margaret CLARKSON
---------------------
Are there any Clarkson buffs out there who can make the connections
between these where thy exist?
With thanks
Roger
