Hello.
I too am searching the Clarkson line. Does the M in Thomas M stand for
Marion? My Grandfather was named Marion Thomas but I believe Marion was a
name he took and possibly his real name was Emanuel. He also was in
the Civil
War with the 5th Arkansas Regt. My Marion's father was Wiley son of
Constantine. Does any of this fit in with your information?

-------------------------
I have posted queries previously on this Sampson county list. However I
have found additional information which I hope will assist in making a
contact. Thomas M.Clarkson was bn in 1812 in Gibraltar. I do not know when
or how he came to U.S. He shows in the 1860 census with a family in 186o
census. He was a painter by trade, living in Clinton. In 1861 Thoams and
his son, Thomas N. enlisted in the 30th N.C. Inf. Regiment,Company A.
Thomas
M.(the father) was a drummer in that Company. The 30th fought in various
Civil War engagements. The Battle of Antietam was the most important to
these men. Thomas M. was severely injured. It is not certain where he was
sent to recuperate and sources indicate that in due course he was released
back for limited duty. Thomas M. was mustered out in 1865 at Greensboro,
though it is not definite that he was there for the mustering out. The
son, Thomas N.,died in Nov 1862, the year of the Antietam battle, at the
Confederate military hospital at Mt. Jackson, Va., of pneumonia.I am
seeking
to learn about Thomas M. and his wife, Margaret, following the Civil War.
My ggf was a son of Thomas M. I reestablish contact on him in St. Louis
in the mid 1870s and have good info on him going forward from that time.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you
