Hello,
Is anyone researching Benjamin Clark(e) who was in the 1810 census in Stonington, New London County, CT (p. 139)and the 1820 census in Stonington (p. 572)? In each census, he had eleven people in his family.
Might one of his daughters been Thankful Clark(e) who was born 11 April 1800? Thankful married Raymond Green, son of Isaiah, in Stonington in 1820; they were married by Coddington Billings. Thankful Clark(e) Green died in Granville, Mass. 20 April 1884.
Who was the wife of Benjamin Clarke(e)? Thankful's death certificate lists her parents as Benjamin and Frances Clarke.
Did Benjamin Clark(e) move away from Stonington after the 1820 census?
Any information would be appreciated. I know nothing about Thankful's mother or her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Thanks!
Judi

Hello Surprised to receive responses. My husband who posted query passed away 2-1/2 mos afterwards (12/18/99). With the help of my sister-in-law I know the following: John Aloysius Clarke was my husband's materal grandfather with one child Edith who married Anthony Heinlein had 7 children one of whom is a Priest. Father John Clarke is not known to us. Edith died in an auto accident in her late 30's. John later used John A. (for Aloyisius his confirmation name don't know why that name) and dropped the O'Brien. My husband was never able to find any information as to the origins of the Clarkes in Ireland. Do you know? Don't know how ancestry works and whether Diana can read this response as well as you. Can you let me know and I will forward. My in-laws are mostly in NY and I am in DE. Be happy to share any info I can find.

Hi Sue, Happy Easter to you too!!!
Sheila's husband Edmand is my mams first cousin. Edmand's father was my grandfather's brother. So the residents of house 22 were my family.
I definately think you should contact Terry Clarke, he knows everything there is to know about Santry and the Clarkes, hopefully he can fill in the gaps for you. I've asked my mam and my aunts but they were all born in the 40s so we have all the history from then. Let me know how you get on,
Areleen

Dear Areleen, Amazing to hear from you; after so mych time spent in this quest your response raises my hopes again.
I have a brick wall where my grandmother is concerned and even the census records for Santry in 1901 don't ever appear to have been available for transcription.
Is there any chance any of your Clarke family in Santry could fill in more detail about Violet's family. Her father is believed to have been called Charles (her brother was Charles Robert b 1901) and I have so little info I can't tell whether their parents returned to Ireland (in around 1905), went overseas, or even (God forbid) into the workhouse.
Whether you can help further or not, I'll try to pursue this line of enquiry. Does your family include one Terry Clarke by any chance (with whom I was put in touch by Gerry Cooley last year)? I even went to Santry last May but was not able to meet Terry.
Thanks so much for getting in touch; perhaps I'll hear from you again.
Happy Easter, Sue

Hi Sue,
My mother is a Clarke and her family also come from Santry and lived in the Swiss Cotages. I spoke to her today and she told me that they lived in Lilac cottage which was next door to Rose cottage. At that time (1940s) a family named Fouler lived in Rose cottage but that's not to say Clarkes didn't live in Rose at the time of Violet.

Hello!
I am Micheal Davitt Clarke and Lottie Mae Linder's granddaugther. Daughter of Jack Davitt Clarke and Lula Veazey Clarke. I have much information on Davitt's family if needed and would love to share and recieve any information on our family as my father passed away 10 years ago. Jack loved his father who died when he was just 53 years old and Jack was 14 at the time. He instilled a great love for my Irish Heritage and I think of him daily as will as the Emerald Isle.
Look forward to hearing from any family.
