I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Dan CLARKE which was taken at
the Millard Studio in Detroit, Michigan. The photograph appears to have
been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Dan appearing to be in his 20's at
the time it was taken. In addition to his name, someone has written
"Bradford" and "Aunt Susan's son" and "Aunt sister of N. W. BLISS". I am
hoping to locate someone from this CLARKE Family so that this wonderful old
photograph can be returned to its rightful place, with family.
If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please
contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley

Oh, this is intriguing! I can tell you who it's not--It's not Thomas Clarke from Fairfax VA b. 1755, because he died in 1842. He did, however, have a son Edward b. ca. 1791. And it's not my Thomas Clark b. 1755 who was in Madison Co KY before 1800 and removed to Pulaski Co where he lived 1799-1809 (roughly).
There were, however, other Thomas Clark's in Kentucky very early. One was at Ruddles Station when it was attacked in 1780. There was a Thomas Clark who had a large amount of property in what is now Garrard County (Madison Co) next to the mouth of Paint Lick Creek on the Kentucky River. There was once a ferry at that location, and the road I believe led to Nicholasville. There is now a boat landing located on both sides of the river. Then there was a Thomas Clark who owned a plantation named Rose Run, if my memory serves me correctly. That Thomas Clark is mentioned in the Draper Manuscripts, Kentucky papers. And finally there was an older Thomas Clark on Madison Co KY tax lists 1787-1789. I do not know if there is any relationship among any of these Thomas Clarks, but I do have a vested interest in finding out who they were and whether or not any two of them are the same man.

I am looking for potential family members with the surname Clarke. My grandfather's name was Walter Clarke (I believe his middle initial was J.). He was born in Evansville Indiana and in the late 40's he worked as a brakeman for the C&EI railroad @ the Evansville, Indiana roundhouse. I believe he was born in 1928/29, and if the records I am locating via the census and ss death index it looks like he may have died in 2004. Not sure its him though.
Does anyone know of any good Railroad Employee archives? Its so hard to find good free resources!
Anyway, if anyone has someone in their family tree who could be (or related to)my grandfather I would love it if you could reply to this thread!
Thanks in advance!

am a descendant from the clarke's of england and the three joseph clarke's down to elisha clarke/mary potter; joshua clarke/wealthea stillman; henry clarke/sarah ?; e. f. clarke/mary e fuller; my grandparents; parents; and me. looking for additional descendants of this line and would enjoy imput from other clarke's as well. best i can figure is that sarah, above, died during childbith w/ e f clarke. don't know who raised him etc. no info on siblings, etc. he (e f) went to college in ny; migrated to pipen, wi. and taught school. then to hudson, wi. where he married wife; and lived/worked for remainder of his live in nebraska and finally iowa. it seems a bunch of this family group migrated to the northwest part of ny state from rhode island; not sure when but it was after the american revolution, and before 1832. then best i can figure, then some(maybe next generation down) went to milton, wi. and set up their religious church; and they started a college that was in opera!
tion until 1982/84. but e f clarke didn't go to milton, he went as a young man to pipen to teach. several groups went to the western part of ny about the same time.....and they set up churches, seven day ?; or maybe baptist?. not real sure about the sect of the churches.
so tell me what you know, love to hear from you, peggy_rushing(a)yahoo.com

I am trying to focus on researching this person again.
I am told that he died at age 48 so in 1936 in PA. How can I obtain vital records for death in PA or birth in dc? I seem to recall that when I looked into this before that there were some difficulties with these states.
His sister Helen married James Shaw.
I am going to circle back through everything that I have and see what direction I can go into to do some research here...it has been some time since I worked on any of this and any help on getting organized is appreciated.
