My brick wall is Thomas C Clarke, my G-G-Grandfather. His son is George Bruce Clarke (w. Ada Estelle Proffitt) and his son Herman Wilson Clarke (w. Mary Elizabeth Barnett) (my Grandfather). All resided in Roanoke-Richmond-Louisa-Mineral-Goochland area of Virginia. I have leads to the women of my family but desperately need help getting past my G-G-Grandfather Thomas. I think his father was Thomas E Clarke, but not sure. Thanks in advance with any help. Please feel free to e-mail through Ancestry with any help, leads, or anything. Thanks again.

Born 5 Feb 1898 and abandoned in Leeds, Yorkshire, UK at pre-school age with her younger brother (Charles Robert Clark/e born May 1901), my maternal grandmother Violet had no birth cert or written record of her parents. She and her brother were raised with the Furness family in the Woodhouse area of Leeds until sent to work aged 13 (from school registers I have verified that much.) Violet died on 6 Feb 1979 wondering why she had been left by her parents; where did they go; why leave without their children.
My search has resulted in obtaining inconclusive birth certificates from Leeds and also in research in the Santry area of Dublin (because Violet wrote "my mother lives at Rose Cottage, Santry").
I had hoped to solve this mystery for my own mother and there are no remaining family members to ask about all of this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sue

Hi
I am researching our Great Great Grandfather William Gregory Clarke, who married an Annie Campbell on the 14 Dec 1859 at Mangawai, New Zealand.
My research so far has taken me to finding a William Gregory Clarke who was baptised on 12 Nov 1835 at Plymstock Church, Plymstock. His father was William Henry, his mother was Elizabeth and his father's occupation was a Farmer and they were living at Hooe.
There are 3 other children :- Fanny Matilda bapt 11 Jun 1834; John Phillips bapt 29 Sep 1837 and Ann Gregory bapt 19 Jun 1839.
I have not been able to find them after the 1851 census in England, but found a family that fits closely with the above family on the ship the Stately from London on the 27th January 1851 and arrived Auckland 1st June 1851.
Unfortunately this is as far as I have been able to get on my quest.
If anyone can help I would be ever so grateful.
Tanya

Message Board Post:
I am trying to determine the parents of Sarah Ann Clark, born 8 Nov. 1826 in Kentucky. Family lore says that she was part Indian; the tribe is unknown. She married Joseph Cochran (spelled Cochren, Cachran, and Cahreau on various records) about 1843, probably in one of the counties along the Mississippi of Missouri, but it could also have been elsewhere. I do know that after his death about 1850 she married James B. May and lived out her life in Perry County, Missouri. Joseph Cochran is said to have been French Canadian. There is a tree on Ancestry that gives her parents as Ephriam P. Clark and Mary Wormington, but as they lived in Tennessee I don't believe this is correct. Sarah's birthplace is listed as Kentucky on three consecutive censuses. I also have another source that gives John Clark and Mary Conway as her parents. So far the only ones of that name that I have found were too old and lived in Ireland. I'm hoping that the story of Indian ancestry might click w!
ith someone. I did find a Sarah Clark with an Indian mother in Missouri, but she had different spouses, so she doesn't work either. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
