I have no connection to this family - just found this while doing other research. It is from the March 5, 1852 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Gazette:
"Mrs. Gains, whose case is now fully settled against her by the supreme court at Washington, commenced the suit nearly twenty years ago, when se was Mrs. Whitney, to recover a large estate in New Orleans left by Daniel Clarke, her father, the possession of which she claimed as his legitimate daughter and legal heir. General Gains, her late husband, expended in prosecuting the claim two estates at the south, which he sold for $100,000. He also spent his pay and emoluments, amounting to $6000 a year, for the time he lived with Mrs. Gains; and her friends had advanced to her considerable sums, which were also expended in the suit. After Mrs. Gains succeeded in the Paterson suit before the Louisiana court, the other parties offered to compromise, but the offer was declined by Gen. Gains. The New Orleans Courier says that 'the mortification occasioned to Mrs. Gains must be very great. She was confident of success, and her extravagant hopes had completely gotten the mastery of !
her reason. She even condemned the counsel on the other side for their zeal in behalf of their clients, and thought that strong opposition wrong and oppressive."

Charlotte Clarke born 1-14-1785,probably in Burlington Co. NJ, married William P. Pullen born 1-11-1785 in Burlington Co. NJ. William died in 1859 and he had been a widower since before 1855.
Charlotte died in NJ but unable to find out exactly where or who her parents were. Would be interested in connecting with anyone with Clarke/Clark in New Jersey around this time frame.

Message Board Post:
Hello,
I'm looking for information about Benjamin Clark/Clarke who appeared in Stonington, New London County, CT in the 1810 census (p. 139) and 1820 census (p. 572).
Based on the 1810 census, he must have been born between 1765 and 1784; it was probably at the earlier end of that range since he had four children under ten at the time of the 1810 census.
Where was he for the 1800 census? I haven't been able to find him.
Was his wife Frances? If so, who were her parents?
Who were the parents of Benjamin Clark?
It may be his daughter Thankful (1800-1884) who married Raymond Green/Greene.
Thanks!
Judi

My dad served in the Army Air Corps before and during WWII. I have a photo album of his that was signed by some of the men in his unit. One of the names is "B V 'Curly' Clarke, 319 N Paca St., Baltimore, Md". I also have some photos but there are no names or dates on them but I believe most were taken in Hawaii just before the war started. I am looking for anyone who might be able to identify any of the men in the pictures.

I have a brick wall named Mary CARPENTER, I know very little about her so
don't expect miracles, however any help or ideas would be greatly
appreciated.
Mary CLARKE was born unknown, probably in Westmoreland, England area. She
married Edward MORPHET (b. unknown) in Ravenstonedale, Westmoreland, England
on 17 Jan 1820.. They had at least five children; the eldset of whom,
Elizabeth MORPHETT, is my direct-line interest.
Elizabeth married Simon THWAITES from Yorkshire, England on 16 Jul 1838 in
Orton, Westmoreland, England. Elizabeth and Simon came to Australia around
1849/50 as their first six children were all born in Orton, Westmoreland,
England (the last in 1849) and their next six children were all born in
South-west Victoria, Australia, commencing in 1850.
I have included below an Outline Descendant Report (3 generations) for Mary
