Hello,
I love to watch the "Antiques Roadshow," and this week one of the people
bringing in items for appraisal brought in some Civil War canteens. And,
an Abraham CLARK from the 1700's, and a William from the 1800's, both
important "signers" of documents. If I understood correctly, it is the
same family.
Just thought I'd offer this as an FYI:

(Researching my "concrete-block wall," James CLARK, who "appears" in RI in
~1827, and "disappears" from MA in ~1844) (and a possible descendant,
William CLARK, alive in ~1900-1910)

My Clarke family came from Co. Cavan in Ireland -- but I don't know what township. They were Protestants. William Clarke married Elizabeth Lawrence in Ireland and they emigrated to Canada in 1843 with their children, except for two sons who'd already gone ahead. They joined those sons in Millbrook-Cavan in Canada.
I don't know the names of all the children or their relative ages, but they included Andrew, Sarah, Eliza, George, David, and my ancestor was one of the older sons, JOHN (born about 1821.
John married Rebecca (also from Ireland, but they may have married in Canada) and they moved to New York where he was a merchant in Brooklyn, at least until the mid-1870s. John and Rebecca turn up in Kansas in 1880, and he's a preacher (Methodist). I don't know what happened to them after that.
I do know that one of the younger sons, George (b. 1833), was a Methodist-Episcopal minister for many years in New York State, and I've been able to find out a lot about him. Another son, Andrew, was said to be a minister in Canada, in the New Connection Church. One son said to have been a shoemaker and another a farmer i the Millbrook-Cavan area.
I'd like to find out more -- Any ideas or connections?

Hi Andrew,
My CLARKs were from County Cavan...I have to look up the town. Andrew CLARK married Margaret FARLEY in Ireland. Six of their children came & settled in Manhattan, NYC circa 1840s: Andrew, Patrick,& James all became shoemakers. There were three sisters: Ann, perhaps Mary, & perhaps Catherine. Ann married Daniel O'Connell b 1836, from Clogharintea, County Kildare. Dan was a tailor and they had 8 children. Their son, Andrew O'CONNELL was also a tailor and married Sarah STACK.
Please contact me offlist, so we can better compare.

Hello Gail, I am also curious in a Louisa Charlotte Keno who married a Conrad Hemp in 1879 in Queensland. Could this lady be the same person? I have not been able to find any thing further on these two in Queensland. I am also researching the Name Keno in general in Qld, but there is almost no information at all on the name in Australia. However, I know my Keno family originated in Germany.

My name is Andrew Clarke- as is my father and grandfather. I was born in NY but my family is from Nolagh - a small village between Balieboro and Shercock in County Cavan. First born males were named Andrew- I'm not sure why but the practice goes back generations. I hope this gives you a starting point. It would seem too much to be a coincidence.
