There is a family tree posted with the children of Jotham Clark and Eunice Rockwood (married 1814 in Medway, MA) including Amy Walker Clark, Louise Elizabeth Bancroft and Israel Putnam Richardson (later, Putnam Richardson Clark) and the submitter has stated that all three children appear to have been adopted.
Does anyone have more information on this family, and can you confirm that all 3 were, in fact, adopted?
I'm related to Israel/Putnam, through his natural parents, Oliver Richardson and Mary Stedman Fairbanks.
It appears that Jotham Clark was a cousin to Oliver Richardson. There are Walkers from that era who are also cousins to Clark/Clarke families, as well.

David A. Clark and I learned that we are exact matches at the 25 marker level DNA testing. For years, I've received notices of matches such as this, but never found so much as one common ancestor, or even someone with my Richardson surname!
Until yesterday.
Dave and I had communicated in the past, as we discovered that we share some Allen ancestors. In the process, I found that he is a descendant of Putnam Richardson Clark, who was adopted by the Clark family in Medway/Millis, MA. Putnam was born Israel Putnam Richardson to Oliver Richardson and Mary Stedman Fairbanks.
Our most recent common ancestors are John Richardson and Esther Breck of Medfield and Sherborn, MA. John's mother was Rebecca Clark, daughter of Joseph Clarke of England. Despite the fact that Putnam Clark was adopted by the Clarks, they were also cousins, and Dave and I do share Clark/Clarke ancestors, as well as Fairbanks, Allen, Stedman, Partridge, Kingsbury and more.
The two families (Richardson and Clark/Clarke) share these common ancestors over a period of nearly 300 years, in and around Medfield, MA. Anyone familiar with "The Richardson Memorial" by John A Vinton will recognize John Richardson of Medfield as one of the major lines that he delineates. That would be John Richardson, who married Rebecca Clark. John's father, also John Richardson, came from England to MA and Wells, Maine.
I'm interested in finding more descendants of Israel Richardson/Putnam Clark. It appears that Putnam and Mary Perrigo had at least 6 children, from 1853 to 1869 in what was then East Medway, now Millis, MA. The name Richardson is used quite often as a middle name, for these Clarks, in recognition of Israel's birth parents, no doubt.
It could be that you're not aware of your Richardson ancestry, if you are one of those descendants.
I'd say the DNA test results confirm what we thought to be true.

Hi Don. I would definitely go with the information on the marriage record. Where did you find that they married by the way? I think I found George on the Ellis Island website. Did you locate that information yet? So do you believe that George came back to the US from Canada and remained here somewhere until he died?

Hi Margaret,
How kind you are to be looking for my family with me. It's always nice to know there are people who care for people even if they don't know them. I have all of the information included in your note, mainly because one of them is my father, and the others are an aunt and uncle. In regards to Olga's fathers name being "Hausen" I believe it is really either a typo or whoever was transcribing the record didn't read it as Hansen, but Hausen. In regards to Olga, in my very early childhood I lived with her for a brief time, following my parent's divorce. I don't remember much about her except that I was always comfortable with her and felt loved.
The hits for George Frederick in Canada are probably for either a famous author or a dentist, both having the same name. As I remember, the birthdates and places did not match up.
I have a copy of George and Olga's marriage certificate. On it George says his father's name was Albert Edward Clarke and his mother's name was Mary Jeans, and that both mother and father were born in England. If this is true then I suspect the birth certificate that I have of George may not be "my" George. What do you think
Don

Good mornining, Margaret,
Thank you for your message. I have also found them in the two censuses you mentioned. I don't know when or where George died. He enlisted in the Canadian Expedition Forces, was in for about 12 months, was released for medical reasons, of which I don't know. I have a letter stating that he was released and was going to return to his family in Redondo Beach, California, but never showed up. I believe that Olga received some correspondence from him after his release, asking her and the family to join him in Canada, but she refused to go. I think they were pretty well estranged by then. I found George's attestation papers on Cyndi's list , concerning Canada and military. I believe that Olga and the three children were living in Pasadena around 1920. I have my a copy of my uncles "graduation" from elementary school in South Pasadena. My two strongest desires aare to find out where George died and was buried, and to determine for sure who his mom and dad were. You may notice that !
i have a query regarding regarding Mary Ann Dudley and Samuel James Clarke, who could possibly be his parents. The birth certificate that I have of George Frederick states his mother's name was Mary Ann Clarke, but no father is listed. Any suggestions as to how to acquire additional information about George and Olga wouold be greatly appreciated.

Hi Don. I am not related to your family but I noticed that you have not gotten any replies to your queries. I love a mystery. I have CLARKS in my tree but they don't connect to yours. I found Olga in the 1930 census for California with the 3 children. She is listed as a widow. Do you have George F.'s death date? I also found them as newlyweds in the 1910 census. Do you know where they were in 1920? Where did you find his military information?

Hello,
I found out by accident last week that there was a James CLARK in the
Province of Quebec in 1824. *
I am curious how many CLARK's or CLARKE's arrived in Canada in the 1700's,
or in the 1800 to 1820 timeframe.
Or, were their CLARK's in New England who migrated to Canada in the very
late 1700's ?

Hi Folks,
In reference to this entry for Revolutionary War Soldier John Clarke:
"#42 SACRED to the Memory of John Clarke, Esqr. who departed this life on the 9th day of Sept in the year of our Lord 1822 in the 74 year of his age"
What would seem to be his signature appears on the 1782 / 83 Georgia Declaration of Independence and Oath of Allegiance. This was a four panel silk document prepared and signed by 180 individuals following the British departure from Savannah, GA towards the end of the Revolutionary War.
John Clarke's signature appears on the same page as his brother-in-law Ulric Tobler. Ulric was related to the Swiss settler families of New Windsor / Beech Island (the site of the Zubly Cemetery). He was a merchant in Savannah, GA. He willed a property in Savannah to the three children of Peter Reddick (died circa 1815) and Margaret Clarke (born 1778). Margaret was a daughter of John Clarke and a niece of Ulric Tobler.
The Declaration & Oath document can be viewed at this URL link:
