Hi,
I have a Herbert Clarke born Lancashire 1840, who was married to Elizabeth Walker, born 1843 in Lancashire, and emigrated to Australia in 1864 aboard the Eastern Empire. They had 2 children before emigrating,Christopher (1861) and Orlando (1864). Any information on this family before 1864 would be very helpful,

I havea book on CD Maryland Quaker (Friends)Records of Third Haven(Tred Avon) Talbot county MD.
For some reason it is not in Adobe pdf in searchable form so it is slow going but I have fund some information of My Clarke family in it so far. This book of records covers from 1660 to the 1800's rrecords, at least some what. some Borth and Death Records, I just spent several hours searching the first section of 104 pages.
but if some one needs information from the records I will try to search for it when I can find time.
I have sent for a couple of other cd books on MD genealgoy that are supposed to be in format to search with adobe.
Happy hunting.
My Edward Clarke came to Talbot county in 1880. So far his is the only line I have found in the Quaker community.
Glenn Dunavan in KS.
Does anyone have any connection to a Charles CLARKE (who later used William
as a middle name) born in England in 1799. He had disappeared when his
mother died in 1841 as in her will she requested a notice be published in a
national newspaper (the Times) so he could claim an inheritance. I think he
went to Belgium later in that decade.
I have found an "appropriate" Charles Clarke living in London in 1841 with
five children and I cannot find him in 1851. He was in England by 1861 (with
more children born in Belgium) and in that census was "surgeon not working".
In 1871 he was "retired surgeon". .
The Charles I have found had married a Mary BAGLEY whose father was with the
East India Company, but I cannot yet prove he is actually the Charles who
was born in 1799 as he gives a different place of birth in the censuses.
But, having checked relevant Parish Records, I do not think he was telling
the truth.
He died in Margate, Kent in 1876.
I doubt if he came forward to claim his inheritance (if I have the right
person) as his wife's family were very wealthy and he would not have needed
any money. His mother directed that it would go towards paying off his debts
to his brother (my 3xggf) if he didn't show up. This suggests to me that he
had chosen to 'lose' his family and keep out of the way.
I would love to solve this mystery!

I have a old Clarke Bible. There is actually only 3 names listed in the Bible. My elderly mother does not remember where she obtained the Bible but thought she and dad 'found'it. Other names listed are L. A. Dike and Mary Kathryn Dike. I would like to get this Bible to family members. Please email me at coquessia(a)yahoo.com

One more thing.....I know William and Mercy Whitehouse also had a daughter named Louisa, so perhaps your Louisa was a child of one of their 13 other children, named after her aunt....not sure about the Earle name, but I know there were Earles in the area. Hope this is useful!

Hi Robert, I tried to email you but it did not go through, maybe this will reach you. I saw your post of Mar,2001 as I was going through here and the name Louise Earle Whitehouse rang a bell. Was she ever married to a son or grandson of WILLIAM WHITEHOUSE b.1781-d.1855,of Roberts Island, Glenwood, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia? My maiden name is Whitehouse, and my dad ARTHUR WALLACE WHITEHOUSE searched for years for evidence of William Whitehouse's parents....he was supposedly an orphan, brought to Shelburne NS with the Loyalist Families who landed there, adopted by the family of Jeremiah Frost and grew up in Argylle, NS, then farmed and followed the sea from Roberts Island all his life. He had 14 children, and 3 wives, Mercy Roberts was my g-g-g-grandmother. I know one of his grand- or-great-grandsons, HOWARD WHITEHOUSE was a ship's cook on the Orinoco, (drowned in its wreck in 1909, I believe) he lived at the far end of Roberts Island, an area known as Sharp Point, and I!
think he was married to an Earle, or perhaps it was his son, WILLIAM WHITFIELD WHITEHOUSE, (my dad's father's cousin) who was, I don't remember....I recall a name of an EMMA BELLE EARLE from some of dad's stories,....does that sound familiar? I believe many members of this family moved to New Brunswick, but I'm not sure where. I am not a professional genealogist,(obviously) just trying to find out where my family originally came from. I have a lot of this written down somewhere from my dad,and also many pictures of the various families dating back to the 1800's. If you have any information, or know anything about the original settler William Whitehouse, please contact me, all information is appreciated ! Thank you !
