HI Joe,
Yes, I did get Marilyn's message and I sent her a note. Currently we are trying to locate the family of George C Clarke (1810 - 1881). He is buried in Graham Cemetery in Stockbridge. Unfortunately, records begin with the 1900's for the curator of that cemetery. Folks obtain earlier data by reading the tombstones. Unfortunately, the stones are rapidly fading. So, my cousins and I are trying to get together at the end of the month to photograph the cemetery. Getting the inscriptions on the older stones will be a challenge, but if that is the only way to obtain data, we'd better get that project done before the stones are completely unreadable.
So we are now trying to find a way to get pre 1900 records for that area for George and we believe his four wives. It is possible that there are only three wives, but that needs to be sorted out with documentation. At present we are trying to get data on Maria Leonard (abt 1814). Do you know of any Leonards in that area? So far we don't have a match.
Sue in Ohio

Hi Marilyn..
How have you been?
Regarding your response to the gc-gateway(a)rootsweb.com (below); Sue
didn't get your reply unless she was subscribed to this particular
message board. To actually send a response to her, you have to log on the
www and click on the http url address that is contained in the below
message. It that way you actually post the reply in the rootsweb message
board post that Sue posted her message to..
On another note, can you email me your latest descendant report of your
Clark NY lines so that I can update my data base. I can then also give
you any more info that I have added from other researchers on your lines.
I recall that I have added info from Sue, but not sure if it intersects
your line.
Thanks

Does anyone know or is related to the Clarke's of Harrison Co, Texas before
our revolution of 1836? I believe they came from White or Williamson Co.,
Tn.
John Philip Adams
Pam,
Please add some dates to help us figure exactly the correct Clarke's.

Thank you very, very much for posting this obituary. Newman Strong Clark(e) was the nephew of my 4th great grandmother (Pamelia Strong Clarke, who married Gershom Tuttle). I have some information about him as well as a picture (I believe taken from an excellent oil painting) which appeared some years ago in Wild West Magazine. The obituary, if accurate, clears up the issue of when General Clarke was born. I have been unable to determine the parents of Pamelia or Newman. Determining Newman's parents would at least give me the brother of Pamelia. Were death certificates in use in California in 1860 and if so, what information would be present?
I am also trying to locate where General Clarke is buried. It does not appear that he was buried at the Presidio. I have just recently discovered that he may have kept a house in Elizabeth, New Jersey, but he is not listed in any grave transcriptions from that area. Would you have any thoughts as to the disposition of his remains? Also, would you have any thoughts regarding where documents from the Department of the Pacific would be housed for the timeframe of the late 1850's?
Thanks again for your post.
