I'm looking for information on Ethel Clarke, born 16 Apr 1887 possibly in Galveston, Texas, daughter of stage actors Creston Clarke, 1865-1910, in Philadelphia, PA, and Adelaide Prince, born 1864 in England. Ethel married English vaudeville actor, Bernard Fairfax, born between 1879 and 1881 in England.
I'm also interested in information that would identify Creston Clarke, born abt 1892 in Pennsylvania, living in Philadelphia Ward 28, Philadelphia, PA in 1920. Was he a brother to Ethel?
Thank you.

Thanks for your help -- I made several postings yesterday and I guess the query for "Maguire" ended up in the wrong place? As that is a seperate query than the "Clarke" which I am also looking for.

If you know the year of Arthur's death you can find it on the California Death Index. Hopefully that would tell you his parent's names. There is an Arthur A. CLARK b.1890 in Alameda County, California in the 1900 census. His father is George G. CLARK b.1844, England. I can send you an image if you would like to look at it. I need your email address.

Looking for possible cousins. .. . . .. I am decendent of Arhtur Alfred Clarke 1/6/1890-1918 who had married Anita Aylward in San Leandro California. They had one son, my grandfather William. The family story is that Arhtur had died of the influenza of 1918. Other than that we don't have much other information on him or his family.

Well, that isn't quite what I meant. I realize my Richard Clarke b 1640 couldn't be an ancestor of your line, but I wondering if it's possible his father Richard, or grandfather Thomas could connect to your line in Suffolk? Since you haven't got a connection back that far, I realize it'd be tough to definitely rule out a connection, but I thought maybe there was definite knowledge of the Richard lines which prohibit a connection. Or, as I said, that someone had looked at the DNA from both lines and ruled out a connection.
One problem is the the One World Tree for my Richard Clarke b 1613 only gives the one son Richard b 1640 and his father Thomas b about 1592 only shows Richard as a child, so I don't know what other possibilities there might be.

I do not believe they are related to my wife's family, but cannot be certain. We've traced her family back to James Clarke, born 1721 in Suffolk (probably Weybread). We know of one son, James (born 1748). Again, one son for James, Richard Clarke - born 1783.
My wife's line appears to have remained in Suffolk, until the early 1900's. At least one ancestor moved to South Africa and three moved to Canada. We have no information regarding family in the USA.

Since you "only" go back to the 1700s perhaps you can't answer this question, but maybe you can. I have in my ancestry, according to numerous online trees, a Richard Clarke b about 1640 who was born in Bradwell, Suffolk, England, and whose father, of the same name and place, was born 1613 and married Ann Winston.
The younger Richard Clarke (who is supposed to have married Elizabeth Moore), moved first to Sussex Co., New York (USA)and finally to Elizabethtown, New Jersey. Do you happen to know if this family is related to your Clarkes? There are a gigantic number of descendents of these Richard Clarkes known, with many of them, such as my ancestors, having dropped the 'e' at the end of Clark.
Perhaps someone may also know if there has been DNA testing done between these lines?
Dave Dardinger (who also has Scottish Clark blood)

I remember contacting your wife's grandfather when i was in my teens and in reply he sent me a booklet of postcards of Ontario.I would love any information you have on both sides of the family, my name is Isabel Jones (nee Campbell) My mother was Robert William Clarke's daughter (Evelyn Iris Clarke) she had 4 brothers Leslie, Edwin, Herbert and Wilfred. My grandpa died in 1970, we were very close and I loved to hear his stories about "the old country". Hope to hear from you soon, Isabel.

Great to hear from you. My wife is thrilled!! She and her sisters knew that at least some of the family had moved to South Africa. It is really neat to know for certain, that it is true!
There was one error in the information I posted. It should have read that Robert William Clarke (sr.) was born in 1845, in Weybread. Inadvertantly, I gave his birth year as 1880, which is the birth year of his son, Robert William.
I have information going back to the early 1700's on the Clarke family and to the 1500's on Robert's mother's family (Fairweather). Please let me know what information you would like and I will gladly forward it.
Have a great day and thanks again for contacting us.
