Hello list,
I'm looking for information on Daniel Clark, born about 1832, probably in Milford, CT, who went to Iowa with wife, Charlotte (Prince) Clark in 1856. The 1870 census shows them living in Pilot Township, Iowa County, Iowa, and then Daniel disappears. Wife Charlotte returns to Connecticut with their six children and remarries by 1880. Does anyone have information on what became of Daniel? He was a carpenter by trade. Would also like to prove that Daniel was the son of Ezra and Hannah (Prince) Clark of Milford, CT. Thanks.

I've "rescued" an old photograph letter written to Miss Caroline CLARKE of
Pittsfield, New Hampshire by her brother. Caroline's brothers initials are
difficult to read as they have been smudged, however, I am guessing that his
middle initial is "T". Based on limited research I believe that the letter
is being addressed to Caroline CLARK b. 31 Aug 1835 in Pittsfield, NH the
daughter of John CLARK and Asenath WELLS.
A transcript of the letter follows:
Letter to Miss Caroline CLARKE of Pittsfield, NH
Postmarked Exeter NH October 10
Oct 8th 1853
Dear Sister:
Imagine for a moment that you were far away from home and one of your
nearest relatives were sick. Would you think the folks treated you just
right to let a whole week pass without informing you of the sick ones
progress, leaving you to ? to the office at every mind and return in
disappointment? I dare say you would ? somewhat to be thus let alone in
your anxiety.
Now I have not heard from Stephen since the letter that you wrote last
Sabbath. I would have been so ? if you had written no more than 2 lines and
then not paid the letter.
Our new minister was re-installed last Wednesday. The exercises were very
interesting. Mr. SAVLE dismissed the school.
We have had excellent preaching today. I begin to be very much attached to
our Rector.
I have thought very much of Jenny since you wrote. Can it be that I shall
never more meet her again here in this transitory state? I always loved her
for her good qualities. She has been indeed a "true friend" to me which I
consider a rare gem. A true friend I see may have these who appear
precisely in time of prosperity when we seem to glide along untroubled by
the storm and tempest but when troubles arise and the cold hard of adversity
sweeps over us they (like one of the two friends who were traveling
together) when the bear comes will run up a tree. She has been a true
friend from the fact that she always sought me ? for my prosperity would
always point out my errors and endeavor to aid me in the right path. Life
is but a ? and seven ? away.
I hope you will write soon I suppose however you have written today. I must
work exceedingly hard this week. I suppose Mrs. REAVY has been to see you
this week. MCFELK'S are all well, Johnny PARKER is very well is as fat as
you please.
I received the bundle in good ?
It is now most midnight and I must close I have much to write but time
forbids.
Your ? brother
? T. CLARKE
Give my ? to Stephen and tell him I think of him very much. If Stephen is
considered in any way dangerously sick I would wish to go home. I can leave
my studies with but little in ? now but if he is getting better shall wish
to stay.
I believe that this is the same family you've included in your Rootsweb
Family Tree. I am hoping to be able to return the letter to the family and
am hoping that you will contact me at your earliest convenience regarding
the family and this letter.
Thanks,
Shelley Cardiel
