Hello,
I recently found out that there were CLARK or CLARKE families living in
Stonington, CT, possibly in the early 1800's. And, I was wondering if
anyone knows what years they did live there !
I have a "brick wall," James CLARK / E, who was in Little Compton, RI,
just before he married in nearby Westport, MA, in 1829. In 1836, James
and Rhoda CLARK had a daughter, Mary Anna, in Westport, MA. During the
1840's, James somehow left the family; he was not mentioned with the
family in the 1850 census. (There is no indication he died there.)
Mrs. Rhoda (MANCHESTER) (LAVARE) CLARK had 3 children from her first
marriage to Epaphroditus LAVARE, including a daughter, Lavinia, who decided
to get married in Stonington, CT, around 1848. Her husband was from New
Bedford, MA. In 1856, Mary Anna CLARK reportedly married in Stonington,
CT. Her husband was from Killingly, CT. I have always been curious
why these 2 half-sisters decided to get married in Stonington, and wondered
whether they had family there !
When I found out a couple weeks ago that there were CLARK / E families
buried in Stonington, it made me curious whether James CLARK had left his
wife in Westport, MA, and moved to Stonington, CT ! And, possibly his
daughter and step-daughter had gone down there to visit him.
Thank you for your time.
Betty (near Lowell, MA)
* There is a possibility that James CLARK got on a ship in New Bedford, MA,
in 1845 and headed out for a 4-year voyage - but deserting ship in Australia
!
(Rhoda was born in 1800 in Westport, MA, so I am guessing that James was
born between 1790 and 1800.)
Hi Listers,
I am having a devil of a time trying to find where Louisa L Crandall Clarke is buried. She lived in Madison Co for a long period of time but she and her husband, Franklin migrated to the New York Mills, Whitestown area. I am guessing they were drawn by the employment at the mills or more specifically Middle Mill.
Do any of you know how to find the Glenside Cemetery Association or any information on the Mills in that area? I suspect she may be buried in Glenside since we found her husband in a military grave in the older section of that cemetery. However, he died before she did so she may be elsewhere. She is not with her families in Brookfield #40. I also have not been able to find an obituary on either Franklin or Louisa.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your interest.

I am trying to reach a Paul Frost or anyone else who may have
information pertaining to the children of John Clark, b. abt 1810 in
Virginia, married to a Mary Crumbaugh b. Ky
I am researching the parents and siblings of my g-g-g grandfather
Charles Henry Clark, b. July 22, 1848/1847, Frankfort, Franklin County,
Kentucky. His parents are as of yet unconfirmed, and we have little
information about his siblings. The information that we do have about
one of his sisters is that she married a Mr. Ross from Streator, LaSalle
County, Illinois. They had a son, Walter Ross, who was an official of
the Cloverleaf Railroad, aka Clover Leaf, aka Big Four Railroad.
What I have found regarding Mr. Ross and a woman with the maiden name
Clark, with a son named Walter, living in Streator, Illinois, for the
most part came from came from posts, found on various message boards,
by a Paul Frost. I have been unable to reach him by email. I have
looked up the various census reports myself, guided by his information.
I believe that my Charles Henry Clark, may be one of John Clark's
children or is related to the family in some way.
John and Mary Clark's known children from 1850 Federal Census of
District 1, Franklin County, Kentucky
Alice 16 years
Catherine 13 years
Henrietta 10 years
Margarette 8 years
Virginia 6 years
John 5 years
Henry 3 years
Mr. Frost indicated on a post that John's wife Mary dies by 1857.
In 1860, John Clark is living with his daughter Alice who is married to
John Nutt, and their children. They are residing in Cheney Grove,
McLean County, Illinois.
In 1880 John Clark is living with his daughter Margaret, who is married
to Alexander Ross, and their children, one of whom is named Walter.
1890, John Clark is neither living with Alice, nor Margaret. Margaret
is living with her husband Alexander and two of their daughters in
Streator, LaSalle County, Illinois.
From what I have found in the census in relation to the written
reference of Charles Clark's sister, I believe that, Henry, the
youngest son listed on the 1850 Federal Census, is my Charles Henry
Clark. Paul Frost lists on a separate posting that Henry's name is
Henry Iseminger Clark, b. 07/22/1847 in Frankfort, Franklin County,
Kentucky.
In additon to finding out more about the possible link between Henry
Iseminger and Charles Henry Clark, I am extremely interested to discover
the fate of the younger Clark children, as in 1860, they are not living
with their father and sister Alice. I would like to know who raised them.
I would like to correspond with Mr. Frost or anyone else who may have
information pertaining to this family.
Thank you,
Kris Johnson

Hi all,
Just wanted to mention some of my Virginia websites:
Old Virginia Obituaries, 1790-1940:
http://virginiaobits.homestead.com/
Miscellaneous Virginia Genealogy:
http://vagenealogy.homestead.com
the information on the two websites above I find and transcribe myself to help people.
I do this when I find time while I am doing genealogy searching at the Library of Va.
and also a website of old photos that has a lot of Virginians photos listed:
http://oldphotos.homestead.com/lost.html
these are old photos from my own collection which I am trying to reunite with their descendants.
And please checkout the links on these pages when you have time as I hope they are helpful to you.
God bless,

I am trying to find the parents of a Susannah CLARK. She is mentioned in
the 1794 will of Richard FOSTER. The will states she is Richard's
granddaughter and another grandchild, John H FOSTER, is appointed as her
guardian. This is about all the information I have on Susannah. Her
mother would probably have been born between 1750 and 1760, if she was
about the same age as her brothers, Ransom and Peter, who were born in 1752
and 1756, respectively. Susannah was probably born in the late 1770s or
early 1780s. Richard FOSTER'S will was proved in Surry County, Virginia,
but John FOSTER lived in Brunswick County, so locations of birth, marriage,
etc., is not clear. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have quite a
bit of information on Ransom and Peter, but Susannah has been very elusive.
