Dennis and Jim,
Would you please elaborate more on the names, dates, places of your families in NY and CT. I am trying to connect with some Clarks in those two places and ties to MA and Ontario, Canada. This connection also includes my Clarks known to have lived in CT...Waterbury, and Devon, Milford area, New Haven Co. CT. 1920's on. MA in 1880's (maybe earlier as well); and Ontario, Canada in 1870's; and some born in Scotland before emigrating to either USA or Canada direct before 1870. (May have been in USA or North America around 1857- (59) per 1810 Census.
Known names: Alexander Clark, b:ca 1844 Scotland; M: Mary Boyd, b: Oct 1850, Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland. They had at least 3 children and maybe more: Mary, b: 10 Oct 1872, Grantham, Lincoln Co. Ontario, Can.; William Alexander Clark, b: Feb 1877, Merritton,Lincoln Co. Ontario, Can.; and John, b: ca 1879, Canada, of Scottish Parentage. This Family emigrated to Attleboro, Bristol Co. MA probably 1879, and appear on 1880 MA Census. Mary Boyds Parents and 4 siblings probably emigrated from Ontario, Can. to Lincoln, Providence Co. RI in 1879 and appeared on RI 1880
Census. (Located near each other.) I have more information on some of these people. Need more on Alexander Clark/Mary Boyd and ancestors. and any other children and death information in MA.
I know there was a James Clark and others in Stratford, Fairfield Co. earlier in proabably 1700'1800s.
Also, another family of Clarks who were in CT and NY...but do not know too much about them. 1900s. A Stanley Clark and others. ...
Thanks
Barb Clark

Jim,
Elias had a son Samuel Clark (1785-1871) that lived in Veteran (now Chemung) County and later he lived in the Southport/Ashland area of Chemung County. Your Silas does not fit into his line, but, maybe the two brothers that I had previously mentioned. Also, Elias' daughter Elizabeth Clark Frost (1789-1866) remained in the Catharine area (now Schuyler) from 1809 until her death. She is in Coe Cemetery. My particular line went to Medina County, Ohio (1832-1849) and later removed to Ionia County Michigan.
You can see many of my Clarks on the Schuyler County New York GenWeb Site in the 1825 Census. Samuel is also listed in the 1830 Census for Veteran on the Chemung County GenWeb Site. I am thinking that we have corresponded before. Don't you have an Elias in your tree somewhere? If not there is another Jim Clark from Iowa who does. I will E-mail you with more detailed information. Thanks for the response.

Hello, Dennis --
Do you happen to know the names of Silas Clark's daughters and
granddaughters? I'm endlessly searching for my g-g-grandmother, Maria
C. Clark. The info I have says she was b. at Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY,
10 May 1823. As an aside, I did notice on the map at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures48/
00004856b.jpg that there is a town a short distance to the northwest of
Auburn called "Clarksville."
I do know her marriage and death information:
Maria C. Clark m. 26 Sep 1843 at Henrietta, Monroe Co., NY,
Stephen Weeks/Wicks (b. 10 Jan 1820, Henrietta,
Monroe Co., NY; d. 16 Dec 1888, Leslie Township, Ingham Co., MI;
son of Benjamin Weeks/Wicks and his wife
Maria Ann Whitney.
Immediately after their marriage, Stephen and Maria, along with
Stephen's two brothers, George Washington
Weeks/Wicks and William Henry Weeks/Wicks, set out for the wild,
untamed forests of lower Ingham Co.,
MI. The three brothers settled on adjoining parcels of virgin
forest approximately 1 mile west of the town
of Leslie, Ingham Co., MI.
Maria C. (Clark) Weeks d. giving birth to her 9th child, Leslie
Township, Ingham Co., MI, 1 Jul 1868. She is
buried with her husband, his second wife (Laura Edwina Reynolds),
and several children from both
of Stephen's marriages at Woodlawn Cemetery, Leslie, Ingham Co.,
MI.
Stephen Weeks was a devout Baptist, so perhaps Maria's family was
as well. His obituary says he was
a deacon in the Leslie Baptist congregation for many years.
I've tried unsuccessfully to find Maria's parents and siblings. Any
chance she belongs to your group?
Best Regards,
Sally J. (Bolster) Holcombe

As previously discussed on this list, I have reopened the CyberSea website at myfamily.com as a memorial to its previous owner and administrator, Virginia Smith Heard, who passed away last year. I have received a contribution to support it and have therefore moved forward with it. It is dedicated the Clarks and other related family names from Newton and Madison Co., AR. This James Harvey Clark line ties back to Clarks in Bledsoe, Rhea, Meigs and Roane Co., TN and then NC.
I have sent emails to all old members of that site, but many (~48%) addresses came back as undeliverable as so many have changed. I would like to invite any other interested Clark researchers to join, if you so desire. It requires a user name and password, so if you would like an invitation to the site, please do not reply to this message, but send me (pesnow(a)aol.com) email with the request.
Thanks and regards,
Phillip

Hello,
Just like to remind Listers about my solidly built, concrete-block wall of:
James CLARK/E, born probably 1790 to 1800 - somewhere !!!
First we hear of him he is living in Little Compton, RI, around 1825.
He married Mrs. Rhoda (MANCHESTER) LAVARE in nearby Westport, MA, in 1829,
had a daughter there in 1837, and was no longer with his family in 1850.
He "might" have been the James CLARK who got on a ship in New Bedford, MA,
in 1845 which was bound for the Indian Ocean for a 4-year voyage. He had
signed on as a "greenhand" and "deserted" in Australia - probably never to
be seen again !
Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)
FYI: James and Rhoda CLARK's daughter, Mary Anna "Molly" CLARK, married
John DEXTER of Killingly, CT, and spent most of her married life in
Killingly, CT.
Around 1889/1890, John and "Molly" DEXTER strangely moved to Boston, MA,
and, while in their late 50's, adopted a baby girl (just turned 3). The
girl was re-named Mary Anna Clark DEXTER in 1892.
I believe that the little girl they adopted was their own grandchild -
"possibly" the result of an "unwanted pregnancy" of their married daughter
back in Killingly, CT. (They had had 3 daughters, but the others died
young.)
I might not "ever" be able to prove this, but, if the "miracle" ever
happens, then James CLARK would have been my great-great-great-grandfather.
Hi... In my database
I have from:
ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tn/knox/vitals/knxmrm-m.txt
Nancy McCAMPBELL m. Joseph M. CLARKE, 20 Jan 1813, Knox Co., TN
I also have from:
ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tn/knox/vitals/knxmrc-c.txt
Nancy McCAMPBELL m. James CLARK, 19 Jan 1813, Knox Co., TN
Probably one is a typo error on some one's part... However, perhaps The
Joseph name could be a clue? Perhaps there has been a correction on the
www site?
Also, his birth date that you have listed of 1797 would make his age as
16 at the time of his marriage in 1813. Could that birth date be for
another James Clark?
Have you found any of them in the 1850 census?

they migrated from Pikeville, Bledsoe Co. and Knox Co., TN and before that NC.

Hi all,
I just wanted to mention two of my websites that have Virginia genealogy information I have transcribed and posted.
Old Virginia Obituaries, 1790-1940:
http://virginiaobits.homestead.com/
and
Miscellaneous Virginia Genealogy:
http://vagenealogy.homestead.com/
Both of the sites have search engines on the main pages.
I hope the information on them is helpful to you.
God bless,
Beth

Hi all,
My 3rd great-grandfather Edwin Harvey Clarke 1810-1865 was born and lived in Virginia, in Manchester city and Chesterfield County. His parents were Martha Harrison Murchie and James Clarke, Jr.
In 1833 he married to Esther Hughes Cunliffe and they had 7 children:
Linden Sydnor, Carroll Charles, Ogden Hoffman, Shirley Hepsy(male), Esther Marian(my 2nd great-grandfather), Glenda "Glendy" Burke and Ann "Nannie" K. Clarke.
I have alot more information on the children and their descendants. The four brothers were born first and then they had three girls!
If you are related to this family please e-mail me at: deliaesther(a)att.net
Thank you.
God bless,
Beth
I am seeking descendants of, or anyone with whereabouts of, a Bessie Clarke
or Clark, born in Iowa the daughter of a V. Clarke and Dora Lewis. V. Clarke
and Dora divorced and married a Richard Eggleston of Osceola, Clarke Co., IA.
Bessie Clark is listed on the 1900 Iowa Census (Soundex Code E-242) living in
Richard Eggleston's household as his step-daughter in Osceola, Clarke County,
IA, but no longer living in household on 1910 census. Bessie Clarke b. June
1888, age 12 in 1900. I believe that Bessie was deceased by September 1936 as
she is not listed as a surviving child in her mother Dora Eggleston Morain’s
obituary. Any info on Bessie Clark will be most appreciated.
Thanks and happy hunting everyone! Hoping to hear from some new "cuzzies".
