Subject: !!!NEW UPDATE - IGI Search Facility now includes USA!!!
Dear Listers -
I am so pleased to be able to announce this news. An incredible thing has
happened for those searching for kindred connections in the USA. Our
terrifically wonderful Hugh Wallis has done it again!!! Yes, you can now
search the IGI by town, county and state with only a surname... What was
done for the UK has graciously been extended to US records by harnessing
the information so lovingly put together by the LDS.
Use this new search feature here:

Hugh, we salute you! Your philanthropic work is a gift we appreciate.
Best wishes to all,

<<Dear Hugh,
<As I am quite sure you know, all of the Rootsweb mailings lists are
<quite atwitter with your grand performance on putting together this <new
IGI search facility for the UK. I have personally benefited a <great

Just a PS. At my grandfather's birth in 1873 Lizzie was living in Flower Branch, Old Campbell Co. GA. They probably moved back to Fulton Co. at some later point. Thanks. Dana

I am looking for any information on my Ggrandmother, Elizabeth Clarke who was probably born about 1850. The only info I have is that she married Franklin M. Smith in Fulton Co. GA. in June 1871. My grandfather gave her name as Elizabeth, but on the marriage License she is listed as Lizzie Clarke, and Franklin is listed as Frank M. Smith. Since Frank Smith is from Fulton Co. GA. I assume Lizzie is too, but then I have learned lately not to assume anything. Thanks. Dana

Hi--Thanks for all the amazing information about all these Clarkes! Wow.
This just gets more and more entangled, doesn't it?
I think the following information will help to show that James and Willis
Clarke, as well as Turner Clarke and Robert Emmett Clarke, are all sons of
Jesse Clarke and Lucy Willis.
Willis Clarke is one of the names that is shown in the indices (all I have
so far) of the Madison County, KY, court cases involving Durrett White, the
stepfather of Lucy's children. The other Clarke names in these cases that I
have noted were Turner and Robert.
Oh, and now I am looking in my files--should have done that right away--here
is a deed dated 1 June, 1829, between Turner, Robert, James, and Willis
Clarke, "heirs and representatives of Jesse Clarke" to Valentine M. White
(their half-brother). So that would seem to clinch it, don't you think?
I note that in your information mention is made of Willis Clarke, no. 20303,
but I failed to see that individual in what you sent. Could you tell me
what information there is about the person with that number?
I appreciate your willingness to help me try to iron this out, although it
does seem to be beoming MORE crumpled instead of less! Hopefully in time we
can find a true picture of this family. I am certainly willing to be
corrected, so long as I can be shown some verification for this information,
which is different from what has been long held to be accurate by the
researchers of our line.
I do have documentation for Robert Emmett Clarke, from his records of his
service in the War of 1812, to his 1818 marriage in Madison County, KY, to
Rhoda Pickering Fox, to his probate records in Cooper County, Missouri in
1851. But I have not yet begun to obtain documentation for the earlier
period in Virginia. I did write to Goochland County, VA, some time ago for
a copy of the 1787 marriage bond for Jesse and Lucy but was told I would
have to try at the VA State Archives, and I just haven't followed through on
that as yet. I do also have a copy of the marriage bond for Lucy Clarke and
Durrett White in 1801 in Kentucky, and a few deeds from Madison County, one
of which I have mentioned above.
Hope this has helped. Let me know if you have questions on this.

Dear Clarke - Clark Cousins!
A list member has asked, "How do I search the messages?" A reply here is
for the benefit of all. If this seems detailed & lengthy, it is! We come from
different skill levels and the object is to connect so, here goes!
All of the links below are taglines that come with messages sent to the
list, they are found at the bottom of a message (except the digest form),
and are randomly selected by the RootsWeb computer.
Please note - there are TWO of each, for best results, search both. Yes,
even there are two of each, we are all on one list, to lessen confusion and
increase the chances of making our connection. You get all messages.
All messages submitted to RootsWeb email lists and boards are
copyrighted under law, please get permission from the orginal poster and
quote the site and date before forwarding or using in your data base. If you
are unable to contact that person via the email address in the archived
message post a brief message to the CLARKE-L using the original subject
line and attempt to contact so & so about such & such about a message
posted on - date. Your attempt to contact is then documented in the
archive. Perhaps one of us has a more current address or the person is on
the list with a new address.
If you see the following in a message that you find in the archives -
"This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." go to
the given Message Board URL - a clickable link in the original message,
but when found in the list archives not clickable so you will have to copy &
paste to your browser's address line and hit enter - post your response
there or copy & paste the complete message to a new message in your
email program with the poster's email address in the "To:" line.
Get connected! add CLARKE-L(a)rootsweb.com to your address book,
& send us a messag! Daily two or three folks are added to the list.
Please respond privately with comments. Thank you. Happy Hunting!

The board search is in the upper left hand corner of the web page, fill in the
search box with a unique first name, a town or county, or collateral
surname. Before hitting "GO!" click the circle for the Board you are on -
Clark or Clarke (failing to do so results - too many!)

Here is where it is most obvious that a good subject line is important. You
can "order with names and or dates" and, you can get chronological or
threaded. I use this one when I know the month & year & subj. line.

Here are two links that should be in a Favorites folder marked

Vickie;
I guess I missed where you posted the pictures. My line was living in
and around Mena in Polk, Co. I don't have information on where all they did
live while in Arkansas, but they may have been in Stapp (I don't know what Co
that is in) or Pope Co., or any one of the Co's close by. I'm sorry I have
such scetchy information, but this is my "brick wall".
Thanks for any help.

A good point. I usually reply just to the sender, not to the list.
I recommend:
1. Check the addresses in the email you send. Reply to sender only
unless you are sure the whole list will be interested in the whole
reply.
2. If you reply to the list, make sure your reply is readable out of
context - quote some but not all of the message you are replying to. And
do use the Reply button, DO NOT create a fresh message by hand. Don't
tinker with the Subject even if you think it is spelt wrong :-)
3. ALSO, you can make it easier for yourself if you organise the
messages you receive from a list. Some software helps with this. Create
a folder for each list. Make this folder use Thread or Conversation (the
term in Outlook) order. Provided people have replied using the Reply
button you then see the sequence of who replied to what. There's
probably an explanation of this in your software's Help.

Do you have any idea what area of Arkansas? All of the pictures that I took
at Melbourne I posted. I have others from a few other cemeteries in the
northern part of AR and I also have a book --"Cemeteries of Van Buren County,
AR".
