Are what? (this is why I think that private conversations should remain
private and not on the list.)
My brother does this and it drives me nuts. Responses like "ok"???? Or, "old news now"??? Yikes!

you if you don't include me?

I may be grasping at straws, but my Clarks are related to the Burgesses
and Thornborough/Thornberrys. My gggrandmother was Amanda Catherine
Clark, daughter of Thornberry A. Clark and Elizabeth A. Burgess.
Thornberry is the son of Nicholaus Clark and Susan Unknown. Nicholaus is
the son of Unknown Clark and Mary Unknown. I need help filling in the
unknowns. Amanda was born in AR, Thornberry was born possibly in TN,
Nicholaus was born in SC and Mary was born in NC. Any help will be
greatly appreciated.

Hi... I have several Timothy's & Israel's born about that time in my data

& death dates, etc. I may have them as children of parents but I may
have no info as to their wives, etc, or I may have them married to
another wife (either previous or incorrect...). If I can identify them
in my data base, I can supply you sources (books or email addresses) for
that info in my data base.

have any Woodbury's in my data base...

I've been on this list a good while, and this is the first time I've ever
heard the name Blair. I'm looking for my great-grandfather, Rochel Blair
Clark, who, according to the SC 1900 Census, was born in Pennsylvania April
1854. His first child was named James, born Nov. 1876 in SC, married Carrie
Hall. Just wondering if it's worth posting the whole family again.

I agree with you Ken. Nothing more frustrating than recieving a reply
without the question, or vice versa.

Bellinda,
I don't have any info really on the Clark(e) line. They come into the Sledge
line here and I was trying to find info going further back. I haven't even
started on any other descendants of Robert and Mary yet.
Sorry I couldn't help,
Lainee

Dear Lainee,
Hello. Reading and agreeing with you all in the open replies that help
everyone and noticed that you mentioned Robert CLARK/CLARKE and Mary FLAKE.
I am wondering and investigating whether my 6th great grandfather, Robert
CLARKE, born: abt. 1688 in Edgecombe Co., NC, who married Jean ?, might be a
descendant of Robert CLARKE/CLARK/CLERKE and Mary FLAKE but hadn't found
anything confirming that yet. And, if not, who the parents of Robert CLARKE
might be.

John,
By the same token, if what they have to say is private they can change the
reply to.
As you say the lists are here to aid people. How is it aiding people if the
info they are needed is kept private between two people! Or if the person
that has the info has to take time from their own research to send the SAME
info to 50 different people that it could help. If it is sent to the list,
then you can negate the fact that that isn't your line and move on. But if
it is privately sent you don't know.
I wasn't aware of any such contest between list administrators and as I said
I have several lists.

Ken;
I couldn't disagree with you more!
Therefore the "reply" button should send the note to the person. If someone
has a reply that may be of value to the list they can easily change the "to"
address!
The lists are to aid people! It is not a contest between list owner to see
who can here the longest list.
John

Ken,
I couldn't agree with you more!!
I am administrator of several lists and I have it set that all replies go
back to the list! I don't agree with Chip's theory that it is easier for
people to type in their own reply too. I am also of the opinion that should
someone want to reply off list they can copy and paste the address they want
to send it to.
These lists are here to help everyone, regardless of whether they are of
your lineage or not. Take for instance, in my ancestry there is an Eliza
Ann Tankersley. One, mine was born in GA, the other was born, I think
Illinois, and you have to watch the years because if you aren't careful you
get the wrong one and are doing the wrong lineage. I guess what I am trying
to say here is that if someone is barking up the wrong tree then one little
thing in a reply could set them straight.
I will now get off my soapbox and repost my interests:
4. Charles SLEDGE was born 1650 in Shropshire, England, and died 1726 in
Surrey County, Virginia. He married Mary (CLARKE)(*) CLARK Abt. 1700 in
Surrey County, Virginia, daughter of Robert CLARK and Mary FLAKE (?).
Thanks in advance for all your help,
Lainee Denton

Fellow List Members;
I believe it is time to get back to genealogy. The list owner has
stated the procedure that should be followed, and those that disagree have
stated their reasons. Now, let's get back to something on which we all (I
think) can agree: tracking down our elusive ancestors.
