Thanks for your reply. I don't know if my grandfather John Clark was
telling the truth about his parent's dying. Do you have any Hills,

searching for James Clarke, his wife whose name is not remembered, and

>It seems that James Clarke and his three sisters - Mary Alice Clarke,
Hannah Clarke, and the third sister's name- unknown all immigrated from
Ireland in the 1850s. They may all have first come to Baltimore, Maryland
and then the brother James Clarke settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania or
vice versa. Perhaps James served in the American Civil War and moved to
Pennsylvania after his return. This is just speculation.

>One of the sisters was named Mary Alice Clarke. She was born in Ireland in
1843. Mary was married at the age of 19 to the American-born James McCart on
January 12, 1862 at St. John the Evangelist Church in East Baltimore,
Maryland. She went on to raise a large family in Baltimore.

Index, Mabel was born on October 5, 1888. Mabel grew up and married a man
whose name was probably Charles W. Coleman in Philadelphia. Mabel died in
April 1979 at the age of 91. The Baltimore McCart cousins did visit their
Uncle Jimmy and family in Philadelphia. Great niece Barbara McCart
remembered staying with the Clarke family while traveling to her honeymoon
in Atlantic City with her new husband George Adelhardt in April 1919. Great
nephew Jimmy McCart moved to Philadelphia in the 1920s and probably stayed
with the Clarke family for awhile.

Sherri,
Both the Charles T. and William N. were born in the same timeframe as your John
Albert/Charles/William, but I've only gone back as far as WV. A few of the Clarks
popped up in Steubenville, OH, but not in Illinois. To be honest, I'm not sure
exactly where John M. Clark was born. I do know that my great-grandfather, Albert
Emery Clark, and his brother John R. were born in WV, but no information as to the
birthplace of their brothers or their father John M. Albert Clark moved to Toledo,
OH, where he married Lura Ellen Jones and settled down. However, I have no idea why
my family lost contact with the rest of the Clarks. I think it's a bit strange that
Albert had 8 brothers and sisters, but my family doesn't know any of them.
How interesting that you have Clarks in your history that acted a bit
"mysterious." Did John Albert/Charles/William Clark's parents really die at an early
age, or did he just split with them? If he split with them, we could possibly have a
connection, otherwise, we may not. I am trying to obtain John M. Clark's death
certificate at this time. If I get any more information, I'll let you know.

Hi Listers,
My son took me to the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA, this past Sunday
looking for specific names of another line but I "accidently" found the
following:
Pvt. James W. Clark
Co. E, 28th GA Inf CSA
1822 - 1864
This cemetery is very impressive. J.E.B. Stuart, Jefferson Davis, John
Tyler, and James Monroe are buried here, plus 18,000 Confederate soldiers.
Hope someone is looking for this.

Am researching Clarke family in Barbados. Have reached a dead end - so
far - with Anthony Clarke, b. abt 1767 in Barbados - unknown parish. He
married & died in St. Joseph. I am trying to find parents, siblings etc.
Recurring male given names in this line appear to be Joseph, Anthony ---/
