Pam,
Do you know if your James Clark born 1793 had a sister Ellen
born Oct 24. 1788? She married Henry Bevans, probably in
Allegany Co. MD. She died 1852 Little Orleans, MD.

Catherine,
I don't know where James Clarke went to. All I know is the father came to Ross County, Ohio at a young age, lived and died there. I descend through the son Matthew Hamilton Clarke who married Clara Core. There is a story through the family that at some point one of the family moved to California. But I am not sure what generation it would be in. Pam

Hi Larry. I think we've talked before. They were my great grandparents. I've
been searching for several years and have not been able to find out who
their parents were. One man who is related to us thinks that there is a
connection with General Elijah Clark of Georgia. He moved from the Carolinas
to Georgia. He had a son named John who moved from Georgia to Mississippi.
My father always said the Clarks came from Macon, Georgia. I don't know if
that was Macon the city, or Macon County. William did of course move from
Mississippi to Texas. Do you have any information about Georgia?
This month I am going to a family reunion in Newton, Co., Texas, where a lot
of Clarks still live. I am going to take everything I have to a cousin of
mine who knows more than anyone else about our family's history and see if
it checks out with the info. he has. If I learn anything new I'll let you
know.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with your John Clarke. I am interested in
your Lydia Leavitt. My stone wall is Thomas Levitt Clarke, who was a British
soldier during the American Revolution. After the War, he returned to America
with his wife, Sarah Lyon. They eventually settled in the Williansport area
of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The similarity of the Levitt name prompts
me to wonder if ther might be a connection. If anything sounds familiar, I
would be intersted in hearing from you. You will probably receive a similar
request from my cousin, Amy Horgas. Thanks for any help.

Subject: Re: [CLARKE] Joe Arlt joearlt(a)juno.com Juno Termination
While I am not sure what the issue is that would cause Juno to terminate Mr.
Arlts address, I do strongly object.
Joe was one of the first people to offer me assistance on a brick wall
search. He FREELY gave of his time and information. That is a service not
found everyday on the net.
Many of the documentation notes in my own archives have him as a source
along with his addy. With over 8500 people in my data base, I would not
enjoy changing all those that have Joe as a ref.
If his termination is due to political back biting on the list, that is
still not worth of termination. Children of all ages have spats. Mom and
Dad cant be there to settle them all. Let the list folks grow up act like
adults rather than petty bickering children.

Surname: Clark, Clarke, Leavitt, Cook, Elliot
-------------------------
My late Mom's research showed her g-g-grandfather to be John Clark, Jr
of Campton, NH, son of John Clark and Lydia Leavitt. That has proven to
be wrong.
So, I am back to looking for the family of a John Clark, Jr, b.17 Sep 1788,

Joe and fellow subscribers,
As a "newbie" to these lists, I subscribed to both, specifically because of
name spelling confusion. All of my family that I have been able to identify
is without the E.
If I may suggest to Joe, that if possible, much of this confusion would go
away if a list using CLARK(E) were developed. It seems more intuitive to me
that it would be intended for both spellings. Perhaps all persons attempting
to subscribe to either CLARK or CLARKE lists would automatically be
subscribed to CLARK(E). Not being familiar with administration of lists, do
not know if this is possible. I would be fine with unsubscribing to the
CLARK list, but to go to CLARKE alone is not comfortable. Scanning recent
mail, seem like a significant portion of it comes over the CLARK site.

I am looking for James Clark b. 1805 or 1809 SC. Parents and place of birth
in SC unkn.
Married twice.
FIRST: Elvina ...?... b. 1811 SC
2 females listed under 5 on the 1830 census of Marion Co. GA. No mention of
these children again.
Elvina died c. 1864 Marion Co. GA
SECOND: Mahala Richardson b. 1833 GA. Dau. of John and Eliz. Catherine
Richardson of Marion Co. GA. The Richardsons had moved from SC and were in
Marion Co. GA on the 1830 census.
Children of Mahala and James Clark: James died at 21 of fever, Susan married
late no children. Eley/Ely married Ella Mae Griner of Mitchell Co. GA two
children: James Elias and Nora Alzeta.
James was listed as a first settler of Marion Co. GA. The Creek Indian lands
were opened for settlement 1827-1830 during the last two GA Land Lotteries.
James died in Marion Co. GA. He was a farmer and owned land in the Red Cut
area. Any information on this man and his family would be appreciated. I am
most interested in his siblings and parents and where he was b. in SC. At
the moment, my research leads me to the Waxhaw area of SC (Lancaster,
Chester, York Co. ). Last, he had living with him in Marion Co. 3 children
on the 1850 census. These children were b. in SC: Rebecca Kidd age 5,
William Kidd age 17, John Morrow age 20. On the 1870 Census he had living in
his household a young woman by the name of Jane Kidd b. SC. Feel there may
be a family connection to the Kidds and Morrows.
