If you are related to this Clark family line and have any information please
respond to Charles J. Clark, Jr. (Jim) address and end of message.
JAMES D. CLARK, fruit grower and farmer in Gilpin township, Armstrong
County, was born in Kiskiminetas township, this county, April 20, 1868, a son
of Jacob W. Clark and a grandson of Henry Clark.
Henry Clark son of John Clark was for many years a farmer in Kiskiminetas
township, Armstrong County, and died there when aged seventy years. He
married Magdelena Knepshield, and they had the following children: Susanna,
George W., Jacob W., John K., Martha, Mary, Nancy, Margaret, Ida and Henry.
Jacob W. Clark, son of Henry was born Aug. 21, 1847, on the old farm of his
parents, where he grew to manhood. He has engaged in farming all his life,
and resides on his valuable estate of ninety acres, which is situated in
Parks township. He is a well known and respected man, and is at present
serving as supervisor of his township. He married Catherine A. Shutt,
daughter of Michael Shutt of Spring Church, Armstrong County, and they have
five sons: James D., Harry M., Grover C., Allen C., and William J.
James D. Clark was reared on the home farm and attended the country schools
until he was sixteen years of age, when he went to Parsons Kan., remaining
there one year and returning to the homestead after this glimpse of western
life. When twenty-one years old he began farming for himself and remained
twelve years in Burrell township, moving from there to his native township,
in which he lived for seven years. In 16 he bought the Capt. Henry Truby farm
in Gilpin township, containing 104 acres, and has developed into one of the
foremost fruit growers in western Pennsylvania. He has orchards of choice
varieties covering twenty-three and a half acres of his valuable farm, and to
this industry he gives constant personal attention. His success along this
line has made him well known, and he is looked upon as an authority in
everything considering the raising of fruit. During the harvest seasons he
gives employment to quite an army of men and boys and during the blossoming
seasons, his fruit farm, just one mile east of Leechburg, is a scene of
beauty that attracts many admiring visitors.
Mr. Clark married Anna Remaly, a daughter of W. R. Remaly, and they have six
children: Charles J., Howard E., Ada E., Robert H., James E. and Lawrence D.
Mr. Clark and family are members of the Hebron Lutheran Church at Leechburg.
He casts his vote with the Democratic party, but takes no part other than a
good citizens interest in political matters.

I am trying to create a family tree for my grandmother who was abandoned at
birth in 1889 Boston, MA, and then adopted by her grandparents. They were
John and Mary Anna (Clark) Dexter of Melrose, MA. I have found out that
John Dexter was born in 1837 in Killingly, CT, and that he came from a long
line of Dexter families in Killingly.
Up until today, all I knew was that Mary Anna Clark was born in 1837 in
Westport, MA. And, on her 1899 Death Certificate, her parents were listed
as James and Lavair Clark. I could find no other references to this
couple.
Tonight, on the LDS web site, I have found several references to a James and
Lavina (Wentworth) Clark, who might have been born around 1800 in South
Berwick, Maine. There are two references to their marriage in February
1823. One says they married in South Berwick, ME; the other says they were
married in Springfield, MA. I was wondering if anyone else has this
couple on their family tree.
There is another reference to a James and Lovina (Bailey) Clark who were
married in December 1825 in Haddam, CT. This couple also would have
been married at the right time and place to have had Mary Anna Clark in 1837
in Westport, MA. Does anyone have this couple on their family tree?
Mr. and Mrs. John Dexter renamed their baby granddaughter at her adoption in
1892. The baby became Mary Anna Clark Dexter. Mrs. Mary Dexter died
in 1899, and later that year Mr. John Dexter took his then 11-year-old
granddaughter to an orphanage in Boston and dropped her off. She never saw
him again, nor any member of her family.
Thank you for your time! Happy New Year!

Hello List and Pamela,
I have an Elijah and Elisha Hull, b. 6/29/1830 or 31, twin sons of Zerah
Hull, b. 3/1/1782, son of Sarah Pardee, 7/31/1753. The lines of Clarke,
Pardee and Hull cross with families locating from Connecticut to Wisconsin.
Strange coincidence with the names of E & E, twins, and connnecting to
Clarke. My Clarke line came from Westhorpe, Suffolk, ENG. Immigrated in 1637
with 3 sons, my Clarke line from Joseph (one of the 3). Any suggestions from

Hi.... I have all of the Clark people mentioned, in my data base, but no
definite connections regarding parents. I have Joseph with son Henry,
but no son John. I do have John of Hartford/Saybrook and also Nicholas
who was said to be a brother of John and also William of Haddam. However
if Henry is father of Nicholas, the all those previous relationships
break down...
Do we have some source that links John to his father, Joseph? That might
be a good starting point... and we can continue from there.

A Genealogists Christmas Eve
by Sandra Devlin
'Twas the night before Christmas and inside my house
Little was stirring, except my computer mouse.
Our descendants were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of ancestors danced in their heads.
So I at my laptop, near trusty old printer
Put the finishing touches to the project of winter,
The gift I had promised for under the tree
A product of love, the family genealogy.
My table with clutter galore was aspread
with pedigree charts of the living and dead;
old yellowed photos, letters of yore,
wills and diaries chronicling days from before.
While others bought gifts at Wall-Mart or Sears,
Id spent my time searching birth dates and years.
No need for ribbons or fancy gift wrappings,
This gift had a way of transcending the trappings.
While surveying the charts with one final proof,
I must have missed the sound on the roof.
For what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But the jolly old elf, replete in his gear.
Searching my face, old Santa could sense
My Christmas spirit was extremely intense.
He spied my research on the table spread out,
"A genealogist!" he exclaimed, that removes any doubt.
As I climbed up the stairs feeling quite in the pink,
I looked back at Santa and shared a sly wink.
For he and I know that the gift of oneself,
Beats anything bought from a department store shelf.
