I have a book that is nothing but Clarks / Clarkes Patriots and Veterans
and also Index to Early Clark Marriages, some as early as 1689 VA > And
Short Biographies ( Clarks ( E ) only)
I don't mind doing look ups in exchange for help in my line. To get past 1844
in Marion County, Indiana
Franki Clark Dickman
You may also recall I was trying to find some sense to the IGI batch or
film numbers for different states, some order so I could type in a
number as a guess and have a decent chance of getting something back.
At the time, NY was the state in question. Its extraction records are
poor. These are the IGI entries taken from civil or church registers
not personal genealogies. They're generally reliable.
Anyway, I can tell you that the Michigan batch numbers seem to all begin
with 518. These are the counties I've found thusfar:
Allegan 518191
Antrim/Milton 518212
Berrien 518273, 518274, 518275
Branch 518282
Calhoun 518292, 518293
Clinton 518353
Genesee 518394
Jackson 518492, 518494, 518495
Lenawee 518551
Macomb 518581, 518582
Mecosta 518622
Washtenaw 518841
So, it looks like the numbering is in alphabetical order. Then within
the county, the numbering is chronological. That is 518581 covers an
earlier time than 518582. I've never gotten anything when the last
digit is 0. Usually the same batch number works for births/christenings
(type C before the number) and marriages (M). A couple of times, I had
to go up a digit to get one or the other. However, that may have been
because there weren't any Clarks in that time period.
It looks like Ohio starts with 513 or 514, Rhode Island 500.
I think this information is useful because families move but not
necessarily out of state. If you can't find a marriage in the
town/county you expect, try the ones nearest. If you're going to be
spending a lot of time on one state, it would probably be worth making
an alphabetical list of the counties. If you can get even one
extraction number (check the film file on the custom page), you can
probably calculate what the number will be for the area you want.
Hope this helps. Kathleen
Do you all recall my asking about an Ezra T. Clark? I kept coming upon
his name as a "relative" in the IGI as I was looking up Clarks. It
seemed so unlikely that he could have been physically present at all the
christenings over a 40 year period in three states, even if he were one
of those untiring circuit riders.
Well, I came upon the same thing with a New York family recently.
Daniel Porter Clark's name kept popping up as a relative. That name is
distinctive enough that I did a Family Tree Maker search on him. He was
born near the family I was researching at about the same time, but he
died in SALT LAKE CITY.
I think these IGI films, which I cannot access online, are early
collections by LDS converts of their relatives' names for the various
endowments and sealings that are part of their religion. The good news,
then, is families where the same "relative" keeps appearing are probably
connected, although it may be distant.
Aloha, Kathleen

I HOPE THIS WILL HELP YOU AND ME . MY TURNER'S AND CLARK'S ARE RELATED.
THEY ARE FROM DUXBURY, MORETOWN,VERMONT. I HAVE AN OTHER CEMETERY IN
DUXBURY, I'LL POST LATER. ELAINE
Since we all have different email systems, I was thinking we should
follow the Henry (I think that's the name) system in posting pedigrees.
Instead of indenting, you label the person according to their
relationship to the original person. That way, you don't end up way
over at the right margin so quickly. Here's an example:
I. Lt. William CLARKE, b. 1609, Dorset, Eng.; d. 19 Jul 1690,
Northampton, MA; m. (1) Sarah, d. 6 Sep 1675; m. (2) 15 Nov 1676, Sarah
COOPER, d. 6 May 1688.
I.A. Sarah, b. 1638
I.B. Jonathan, b. 1639
I.C. Nathaniel, b. 1642
I.D. Experience, b. 1643
I.E. Increase, b. 1646
I.F. Rebecca, b. 1648

I.H. Samuel, b. 1653
I.I. William, b. 3 Jul 1656, Dorchester, MA; d. 9 May 1725, Lebanon, CT;
m. (1) 15 Jul 1680, Northampton, MA, Hannah STRONG, d. 31 Jan 1693; m.
(2) 1694, Mary SMITH, d. 23 April 1748.
[I'm going to cut this short now and just do one line.]
I.I.4. Jonathan, b. 13 May 1688; d. 12 Jan 1743, Lebanon; m. 6 Jan 1713,
Hannah SMALLEY.
I.I.4.a. Jonathan, b. 1 Nov. 1715, Lebanon; d. 1800, Lebanon; m. 16 Jan

I.I.4.a.vii. Lemuel, b. 8 Aug 1753, Lebanon; d. 1831, Candor, NY; m.

I.I.4.a.vii.3. William, b. 22 Sep 1777, Lebanon; d. 6 May 1852, Parma,
NY; m. 16 Jul 1807, Genoa, NY, Sophronia TILLOTSON.
I.I.4.a.vii.3.H. Emmons, b. 14 Oct 1827, Huron, NY; m. 15 Nov. 1850,

I.J. Sarah, b. 1659
I'm not sure I've got the order of Roman numerals, Arabic numbers,
capital and small letters correct, but you get the idea. See how
everything fits in more tightly?
The pedigree, by the way, is of Gen. Emmons Clark, a reproduction of a
privately printed booklet I got years ago. There are inaccuracies in
the first couple of generations. A visit to Dave Clark's website will
fix them for you, but I decided to type it out just as printed.
This is just a suggestion. Food for thought, as it were.

Hello, I am attempting to researching the Clarkes in Belfast, Ireland.
Anne Clerkin, daughter of Bernard Clerkin & Bridget McCarron, married a
man by the surname of Clarke and moved to Belfast. Anne was born around
1850 (just an estimation). They may still have descendants in the
Belfast area. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

Kathleen,
I appreciate your posting of the death records for Northampton.
Are you aware that there is a site that has all of these, plus birth
records, marriages listed by groom and marriages listed by brides name?
Look at: http://www.asan.com/users/shypuppy/NH-Intro.html
This guy has done a real service to all Northampton researchers.
Good hunting!

Looking to verify parents of John CLARK, b. 14 Mar 1824 Paterson NJ. Married
23 Aug 1861 to Rebecca Ann STRAHAN in Harrisville, Ritchie, VA/WV. Died 16
May 1897 in Cairo, Ritchie, WV. I believe him to be the son of John CLARK,
Jr. and Susan BEACH of Paterson NJ. Can anyone verify this?

I have Delia (Ardelia ?) CLARK b. 1770 in Emporia, Greenville County, VA.
She married Richard SHURLING August 05, 1789 in Emporia, Greenville County,
VA; she died March 01, 1827 in Edgecombe County, NC.
Delia and Richard were my 4th great-grandparents. Delia and Richard had a
grandson named James Henry SHURLING.
I have been looking for Delia's parents for a long time. Do you know who
she might belong to? bp

Subject: James H. Clarke Family, VA
Hello everyone,
I'm looking for any contacts or info about James Henry CLARKE
(Clark): b. 22 Sept 1816 (Albemarle Co.?) VA; married Elizabeth F.
Estes in Albemarle Co. VA in 1841, lived in Orange Co. VA until 1856
when they moved to Fairfax Co. VA; died 30 Nov. 1895. Children include
Mary Virginia, Edward Bernley, Charles, Alice B., William "Willie" Lee,
and Robert H.
The surname is sometimes Clark and sometimes (probably originally)
Clarke.
Anyone have any Clarkes in these areas of Virginia?
