I'm searching for information on my gg grandmother Ruth A. CLARK, b.
9-30-1814 in Pickens Co, SC (then Pendleton Dist.) Her mother was a
MILLER. I need her parents' and siblings' names. Ruth A. CLARK was
supposedly related to Pres. John ADAMS on her mother's MILLER side.
Ruth married Fenton B. HALL. (Fenton's family was in Halifax Co, VA
before SC and Ruth's may have been there, also -- speculation.) They
lived in Anderson Co, SC, and moved in the early 1840s to Tippah Co
(became Alcorn Co) MS. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and
reciprocated, if possible. Thanks! Becky Smith

I too am discouraged and just waiting it out. It reminds me of the time
aol absorbed all of the E-world customers a few years ago and the aol site

Hopefully, if we wait it out, we can get back in! But then, we who study
genealogy are patient aren't we :)

This week's rush to the LDS site reminds me of when I was a an LDS FHC
librarian. People would come in expecting that we would have their
entire family tree in a folder in the file cabinet. I think it partly
has to do with the "mysterious Mormons" stereotype. They've got all the
information on everyone (just like the Vatican has all the world's
gold).
When I told them I could show them some places to start researching,
they usually never returned. Or they grabbed the first name in the IGI
that looked right and went off to interrogate their grandmother about
this man she married before Grampa!
I believe, hope, that in about a month, those "customers" will leave in
discouragement. We'll pick up some serious new researchers. The church
will add more servers, and we won't have to wiggle in for 10 minutes a
week.
This opinion is backed up by absolutely no facts. BTW, staying up late
doesn't work. It's now 1:30 a.m., and I can't get on. I don't know my
time zones well, but I think it's those pushy people over in Scotland.

My great Grandfather was William Lucas Clark b. May 21, 1879 to parents
Collins E. Clark and Annie ??????. He had a brother Walter Collins Clark
b. 1870 and a sister Charlotte W. Clark Holmes/Nickerson. By all
indications they were long time residents of Harwich, Barnstable Co., Mass.
I have located some information through the census on the parents residing
in Barnstable, Barnstable Co. and Charlotte both as Mrs. Holmes and then
living in Bourne, Barnstable Co., Mass. as Mrs. Lester W. Nickerson. But
nothing on Walter or William who was a druggist in 1900, married Rebecca
Isabel Bearse Oct. 16, 1900 in Hyannis and they had one daughter Evelyn
Clark b. April 10, 1905.
There was a divorce and my Great Grandmother came West to Calif. but my
Great Grandfather stayed in Mass. where exactly I do not know. I have his
Pharmacist card showing an address of 548 Washington St. Canton, Mass. but
no idea of a date. A reference of him in his parents 50 Wedding
Anniversary indicating he must have remarried because it referred to Mr. &
Mrs. W. L. Clark of Boston and Somerville, and A letter from him in Boston
in Sept. 1956. to my grandmother. But try as I have, there has been no
luck in pining him down in any census.
If there is anyone out there who knows of this Clark family or is a
descendant or his brother or sister or second wife I would really love to
hear from you. Thanks so much
Sincerely,
Claudette Sanders Panico
Jennie,
The book "Long Knife" by historical novelist James Alexander Thom goes into some
detail on the possible relationship between George Rogers Clark and Theresa de
Leyba. In the authors notes at the end of the book he cites that the betrothal of
the two "is generally accepted as true by most scholars of the man's career; that
the betrothal was dissolved and Theresa de Layba died a nun in a Spanish convent in
1821 is recorded as a historical fact."

Beth B. et al,
I am seeking ancestors of John Clark, b. Middlesex, Chittenden Co., VT ca.
1784, b. Dade Co., MO ca. 1849, m. on May 27, 1810 in Middlesex, Chittenden
Co., VT to Nancy Humes (ca. 1785- 1841). John migrated from VT->, Ross
Co., OH ->, IN, -> Dade Co., MO. John's descendants concentrated in
Washington Co., AR, but others spread to Parker Co., TX., and others are in
OH and MO.
Census data indicate that the father of this John was also named John Clark.
Land records show that Jeremiah Clark, William Clark, and John Clark each
acquired land grants in Chittenden Co., VT on March 16, 1780.
The following records of land grants from Vol. 2 of the State Papers of
Vermont were noted in "Vermont's First Settlers" by Jay Mark Holbrook. John
Clark received a land grant on March 16, 1780 in Chittenden Township, VT.
(p.157). Jeremiah Clark also received a land grant on March 16, 1780 in
Chittenden Township, VT. (p.158) William Clark received 2 land grants on
March 16, 1780 in Chittenden Township, VT. (p. 45, p. 158).
The DAR Patriot Index, Part I, p. 577 has listings of
Revolutionary Patriots as follows:
Jeremiah Clark, Sr. b. 1733 CT d. 10-17-1817 VT m. Susannah Clark.
Major, Civil Service, VT.
Jeremiah Clark, Jr. b. 11-3-1760 NH d. 6-1-1845 MI m. Sarah Millington.
Pvt. VT.
You can order these application papers from DAR, Washington, DC for a fee of
$5.00 each. These papers usually give names of children.
Beth, This appears to be a different Jeremiah Clark, Jr. from the one you
mentioned on 4/15/99. I don't know which one is the one who was settling
with John and William.

I'm not working on GA CLARKs, but if someone is, this might be of interest.
I found this info on a GA list to which I subscribe:
Excerpts from the book "Early Settlers of Catoosa, Whitfield, Walker and
Floyd (Armuchee)"
Martin WARD married Miss Minerva CLARK, daughter of Benj. F. CLARK. William
WARD sold to Adam STROUP. Solomon WARD sold to Wm. B. QUINN, and afterward
STROUP sold to Hugh QUINN and went to Trickum. About 1839, Nat WARD settled
near Tunnel Hill. His eldest sons were Martin and Seaborn.
Benj. F. CLARK and John S. MARTIN were on the Matthew McCALLA place. Prior
to 1834 MARTIN was selling goods and early in that year married Miss Mary
CLARK, daughter of Benj. F. CLARK. MARTIN failed in 1837 and sold his land
to one BYRUM. BYRUM sold goods a short time and moved to Alabama. BYRUM
sold his land to Matthew McCALLA. MARTIN, after he sold out, moved to the
place where Dr. LEE lived in 1856, north of Tunnel Hill. he sold that place
to Daniel GORTMAN and moved to Alabama.
Benj. F. CLARK was a fine looking man of venerable appearance and a man of
fine sense. He was justice of the peace when we came to this section. His
sons, so far as we remember, were Zachariah, who married Miss. Harriet
KERLIN, Mitchell, William and Benj. Jr.
Would like information on the family of William O. Clark, who was born 15
Feb 1808, supposedly in Adams Co, OH. Married Mary Hibbs 6 Mar 1845 in
Fountain Co, IN. Resided IN, IL, the Worth Co, MO, where he died in 1872.
Children: Elizabeth E., md Samuel Zink; Joseph Hibbs , md Christiane Bohart;
Emma Fidella, md. Henry Rowen; and Rosezetta Victoria, md. Benjamin Dunn.
I am trying to trace the ancestors of my great-grandfather Eckel Clarke who
was born in Barbados in about 1865 and moved to New York in about 1915.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone with knowledge of the Barbados
Clarke connection.

I am trying to find out who the parents and grandparents of my
great-great grandfather, William F. Clark, were. William F. Clark was
born near what is now Asheville, N.C. in 1790. Some accounts say he was
born in South Carolina. A portion of what is now Western North Carolina
used to be in South Carolina. On March 16, 1812, he married Elizabeth
Isaacs in Amitie County, Mississippi. He also served as a private in the
Mississippi Volunteers during the War of 1812.
William F. Clark moved to what is now Sabine County, Texas, in 1821. He
and his family were listed in a census taken in 1835. His and
Elizabeth's children were: Elizabeth, Eliza, James, Henry, Mary,
Rachel, Rebecca, Franklin, another Elizateth(?), Amanda, and Wilson.
Elizabeth Isaacs Clark died in about 1836, while they were trying to
reach the Sabine River ahead of General Santa Anna and his army.
In 1837, William F. Clark married Mahalia (or Mahalie) Graham. She was
born in 1812 and died in 1887. William and Mahalia had six children. He
passed away in 1856. One of their sons was named William B. He had a son
named James A. James A had 10 children, on of whom was my father, Amos
A. Clark.
I would greatly appreciate any information anyone has that will help me
trace my ancestry further back than William F. Clark.
Thanks a lot.

Samuel first appears in the 1820 Wayne County, KY, Census, but may have
been in the area as early as the late 1790's. I understand a Samuel
Clark was in Pulaski county, and would be curious to know if anyone can
lay claim to him. Some Wayne county records state my Samuel was from
NC; a Clinton county census later in life states he was born in VA.
