Hi Barb,
I'm working on LEWIS in NY, but, of course, I copy every Clark I see as
well. I'm over in Erie Co. right now, though.
I can't for the life of me lay my hands on it. However, I did a search
awhile ago on Dutch translations of common names. I think I just typed
in "Dutch names" as my search term. I turned up two websites with all
the common first names and the Dutch form they might have taken in early
NY records. I did notice that Clarck was one surname spelling. If I
find the darn thing, I'll post it for other NY searchers.
Aloha, ktc

copied & transmitted it. I know nothing more about these people.]

Mr. Clark,
I also have some Clark relatives who were reportedly born in New Jersey, and one Clark relative who currently lives in Avoca, NY. I have 3 John Clarks, one of whom was born in East NJ. I would be interested in your Clark lineage, expecially if you have a Hattie, Asa, Arthur, Percy, Delia, or Leitha Clark born in the 1880s in New Brunswick, Canada. Will be happy to share my info. Have a great 2000. Dee

Hello there "ktc",
I'm researching my Clark ancestors who were apparently "Loyalists"
from the American Colonies. This is a terrible hard surname to research
especially when the Christian or given name is John, and John Only.
I have Huguenot French and Dutch ancestors from New York and
New Jersey and tracking them pales into insignificance when compared
to Clark. perhaps the name underwent many changes. My de Laforge
became Lefurgy and since coming to Canada, c-1784, LeFurgey
As a youth of 10-12 years of age my grandfather constantly appraised me
of my ancestors, however that was 55 years ago. Anyhow somethings
stuck and when I come across usefull information, bells start to ring.
Your
recent post re: the above had that effect.
I recall my granddad talking about "Avoca", Ireland, in some of his
lectures
and I'm now wondering if Irish Clarks might have settled in "Avoca" N.Y.
As you have suggested, I'm also posting this mail to the Clarke website,
a recommendation I totally agree with.
When you have some extra free time and at your leisure, I woul like to
hear from you or other rooters in reference to my question.
Kindest regards and wishing you all our Lord's loving care in 2000

Hi, Clark cousins,
Do any of you have early CLARKS, mid 1700s, in Orange or Broome Co NY?
Married in Goshen Presbyterian Church, Goshen, Orange Co, NY? Perhaps of
English and Dutch descent? Does anyone know what the Dutch translation would
be for surname "Clark?" Was there a Clark family who migrated to NY from
Windsor, Hartford Co, CT? I'm hunching my Clarks came either from English
Puritan, MA or CT or Dutch New Amsterdam. Have any of you found an Elkanah
Clark in your research? A very different name. Thanks.

When I post something to the group, that's ALL I know about the people.
As some of you know, I'm an invalid with only a few hours upright. I'd
rather spend them sharing with everyone than answering individual
emails.
Thanks for your understanding, ktc
