Can you provide some more details on your Tom, Etta and possible Mattie Clark?
I have information on Christopher C. Clark b. abt 1829 in GA who married
Alizade M. Burgay b. abt. 1831 in GA. The marriage took place on August 10,
1848 in Monroe Co. GA. Alizade M. Burgay was the daughter of Levin and Martha
Burgay. Levin Burgay died 1855/56 in Monroe Co., GA.
The young Clark couple moved prior to 1860 to Union Parish, LA. Christopher
Clark died August 5, 1873 in Ashley Co., Arkansas which is just north of Union
Parish, LA.
The 1870 census of Union Parish, LA shows the Christopher Clark family to
consist of: Christopher age 40, Alizade M. 38, Edward L. 21, Martha S. 18,
Thomas W. 16, John B. 11, Ossea (daughter) 9, James M. 7, Etta 4, Fanny 5,
Molly 1, Leonard Burgy (Alizade's brother) 23 and John Ingram.
Martha S. Clark above was also known as Mattie. She married George M. Moore
on October 24, 1870, in Union Parish, LA. George Moore was born September 5,
1849, in Union Parish, Louisiana, the son of James Moore and Sarach Clardy.
Mattie was born September 23, 1851 in Georgia.
George Moore died August 10, 1916. Martha "Mattie" S. Clark died May 15,
1922. Both are buried in the Meridian Church Cemetery near Marion, Union
Parish, Louisiana.
Am interested in contact with descendants of the Christopher Clark and Alizade
Burgay children.
Roy Austin
My ggg-grandfather was also Christopher Columbus Clark, born about 1829 in
Georgia. He married Alizade M. Burgay on August 10, 1848 in Monroe Co., GA.
Alizade was the daughter of Levin and Martha Burgay. Levin died 1855/56 in
Monroe Co. GA. I believe that the "M" stood for Missouri.
Sometime before 1860, the young Clark couple moved to Union Parish, Louisiana.
Christopher Clark died August 5, 1873 in Ashley County, Arkansas. Ashley Co.
is the next county to the north of Union Parish, LA.
I am looking for Christopher's parents and contact with any of his or his
siblings' descendants.
Roy Austin

Hello Linda,
This is exciting! Your Merit Braman Clark was the brother of Lydia Louisa or
Lovisa Clark, my gggrandmother, and Levi Clark. Their parents were Braman
Clark and Betsey Clark (not related to each other as far as I know, but they
just didn't realize how much trouble such names would cause their descendants
:). I am not sure of Braman's parents, who may have been David and Charlotte.
I have Betsey Clark's ancestors back quite a few generations. I got this
information in August from a descendent of Merit Braman Clark's in Oregon,
where Merit died. He corresponded with a Dearstyne cousin of mine (Lydia
Louisa married David Dearstyne). I would be glad to send you copies of his
family sheets, which seem well documented although I haven't reconfirmed any
of it. I also have correspondence from a file at the Old Stone Fort in
Schoharie Co., NY and a copy of some legal documents. Braman Clark died
young, and Betsey Clark remarried John Gorse Jr. about a year later. David
Clark (Braman's father?) sought custody of her children with Braman. Betsey
was widowed again later and married Samuel Ash. Apparently good relations
were restored at some point.
Please get in touch and let's share our information!
