Okay, finally made it back to the library. I guess I had copied almost all
out of the 2 books. So, first the sources for the rev. & civil war Clark's I
posted before are:
"Who was who in the Civil War" by Stewart Sifakis, 1988
"Who was who in the American Revolution" by L Edward Purcell, 1993
KATE KING (AKA KATE CLARKE) (1842-?) The mistress of Missouri bushwhacker
William C Quantrill Kate King (sometimes rendered Clarke) used the money
gained from his will to open a posh St. Louis brothel. She had been kidnapped
by the Confederate guerillas--in actuality nothing more than bandits--early in
the war. She was frequently with Quantrill and upon his death came into half
of his loot from the war. A chance reference to Quantrill as a mere butcher
led to the demise of one of her clients by the outraged madam. She recruited
many of her clients from the ranks of the former guerrillas. Following her
marriage she disappeared from history.
PETERSEN, WILLIAM A (?-1871) Washington tailor Wiliam A Petersen rented out
rooms in his 10th Street home. It was here that Abraham Lincoln died. When
it was determined that Lincoln should be removed from Ford's Theater, a
procession carried him across the street, but the first house tried was
locked, with no one at home. They moved on to number 453 but Petersen
informed the party that the house was full. However, when told that it was
for the wounded president he led the party to a room behind the staircase on
the first floor. The current occupant, Private WILLIAM T CLARK, 13th
Massachusetts, immediately vacated the room. Ironically, John Wilkes Booth
had once slept in this very bed when it was rented by a friend. The Petersen
home became host to many top officials of the government during the night, and
the next morning Lincoln died there. The building is now run by the National
Park Service.
JONAS CLARK (1731-1805) Clergyman. Clark was the pastor of the First Parish
Congregationalist Church in Lexington, Mass from 1755 until his death 50 years
later. He was also a close friend and advisor to patriot leaders John Hancock
and Samuel Adams, who were staying at Clark's home when General Thomas Gage
sent out an armed expedition in April 1775 to capture them. The result was
the first battle of the Revolution. A strong supporter of the rebellion,
Clark wrote an anti-British tract in 1776 caled "The Fate of Blood Thirsty
Oppressors and God's Tender Care of His Distressed People"
Have to run. Will post Alured Clarke, and another article on George Rogers
Clarke tomorrow.
Vickie
I recently started an EARLY CLARK project list to try to get as
much
info out to people on the early emigrants to USA. (I also have a selfish
reason since I'm trying to identify my own George CLARK in the
Lumberland,
Sullivan County NY area in the early 1800s).
I consider myself a compiler rather than a researcher on these
various
Early CLARK lines. I do not have any link (yet) to any of these lines.
It's certainly easier for me to cut and paste information that others
have
researched rather than doing the research myself. I have borrowed
extensively from others, but have listed these in my notes so you can
contact the individuals or WWW sites for more info.
CAUTION...SOME OF THIS DATA IS UNVERIFIED...USE AT YOUR OWN RISK...
THE DATA IMPROVES AS YOU TELL ME HOW TO CORRECT IT...
I try to identify each branch with a contact so that others
researching the same branch can make contact and exchange data directly.
Ideally, I would like to have 4 to 6 generations before 1800 with all the
names, dates, & places identified so other researchers can have a
reference point. I am not trying to have a complete Clark lineage beyond
1800, (with the possible exception of NY for selfish reasons!).
With that said, can you supply any more data on your Clark line
(or
any CLARK line), before 1800 that I can incorporate into my write-up
using
the cut and paste method of research? 8-)
Attached is one of my Early CLARK files....Enjoy....Please
furnish any
additions, corrections, deletions, etc. to the undersigned for
incorporation into the next revision...

a school teacher and fought in the Civil War under Sherman at the battle of
Atlanta. He died in August of 1864 - right before end of war. His wifes name

to do with the railroad in Ohio I believe. May CLARK married John ROSS and
lived in Cowley Co., KS then moving to Kay Co., OK. Anyone researching this
line or any leads to this family would be greatly appreciated.
