we have no data on him. My husband is through Jesse B. CLARK

Well, I am assuming they were in the TN area. Elizabeth Ann Clark m. James

I have a James Clarke born in Nottingham, England 1813 but I know that he
and his family moved to Northern Ireland and settled down there. However,
on his marriage to Mary Ann Clough, one of their witnesses was a John
Clarke, presumably a Brother. I know no more than that and I have no idea
if he moved to the States.

I am trying to find out more about two Clarks, one a direct ancestor,
one not.
James Clarke (the only one of my famiy I know of who used the "e") was
the third territorial governor of Iowa, 1845-1846, when the state
capital was in Iowa City. I ahve no idea where he lived before or after
serving as governor, who he married, and who his parents and children
were.
Thomas Christopher Clark grew up in Washington, D.C. and served as a
Methodist chaplain in the Civil War. Therefore, he was probably born
around 1835. He married Maria Martin, who was from Scotland. After the
war, they moved to Nebraska; first a northern county, later in southeast
NE. His son, Walter H. Clark, was born in 1869, d. 1960, m. Cora Amelia
Cox and was also a Methodist minister; he retired in Fairbury.
Thomas C. is buried in Ashland, NE.
The dates make it possible that James was Thomas's uncle and was also
from Washington, D.C. So far I have been able to find out exactly
nothing, so any information would be helpful.
Thanks, Barbara Clark Archer
Would appreciate any information on parents of George Calhoun CLARK b 4 Dec
1800, Lancaster Co, PA and d 12 Aug 1860, Wooster, Wayne Co, OH and md 27 Nov
1820 in Rockingham Co, VA, Susan Atchison LEE, b 31 March 1798, Arlington VA
and d 3 Feb 1865 Wooster, Wayne Co. OH. George's father supposedly died while
George was young. Also, supposedly, George left Pa to escape the Catholic
Church (he later became a minister of the Disciples Church). Susan's father
was William LEE and she was said to be a cousin of (guess who?) Robert E.
LEE. If true, it would be ironic as during the Civil War she had every son
and son-in-law plus 2 grandsons fighting for the Union plus one son who
survived Andersonville. George and Susan lived in Charlottesville, Albemarle
Co, VA; New Lisbon, Columbiana Co, OH; Massillon, Stark Co, OH; and Wooster,
Wayne Co, OH.
Their children were:
William H. (1822-1853 Nashville, TN) md Sarah A. TERRY
Mary Ann Fletcher (1824-1905 Summit Co, OH) md George Washington
POMEROY (Civil War - McLaughlin's Cavalry + recruiter)
Sarah Jane (1828-1829 OH)
Nancy Lee (1831-1870 Wayne Co, OH) md Andrew J. HARVEY (Civil War)
Sylvanus (1832-1874 Holmes Co, OH) md Clara BRINK (Civil War - 5th Battery)
Elizabeth F.(1834-1912Portage Co, OH)
md 1 - Stephen Goodridge -
(Civil War)
md 2 - Ezra TRYON - (Civil War
- 6th Ohio Battery)
md 3 - Henry FOWLER
George Washington (1838-1921Jackson Co, MO) md Eliza Freeman
Benjamin Franklin (1841-1909 Summit Co, OH) md Caroline FOLTZ
(Civil War - 16 OVI - McLaughlin's Cavalry
- 6th Ohio Cavalry
- prisoner of war at Andersonville)
Any info on this family would be appreciated, especially ancestors of George
and Susan plus descendants.
