Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I dont think Clark/e has been represented on Worldfamilies as yet. It is
connected to the dna projects. There are forums but no one has started any
Clark messages as yet. On thi site you can put a small pedigree on the
Patriarcg page. You need to subscribe to enter the forum but not to view
the site

Even though my middle name is Clark, the nearest direct ancestor of this
name is a great great grandmother, and her line goes as follows:
Hon. Daniel CLARK of Windsor, CT.
c1622-1710 and h/w Mary NEWBERRY
(He was one reportedly of the first secretaries of the Colony of
Connecticut.)
John CLARK of Hartford Co., CT.
1656-1715 and h/w Mary CROW
Capt. Solomon CLARK of Hartford Co., CT.
1699-1767 and h/w Anne EGGLESTON
Solomon CLARK Jr. of Hartford Co., CT.
1725-1776 and h/w Anne ASHLEY
James CLARK of Hartford Co., CT.,
and Onondaga Co., NY.
1764-1839 and h/w Sarah CRANE
Alexander CLARK of Onondaga Co., NY.
1810-1871 and h/w Jemima JACKSON
Adelaide Emma (CLARK) VANDERVEER
of Lysander, Onondaga Co., NY
1842-1917 and her husband, Jewel Warford VANDERVEER
(My great great Grandparents.)
These CLARK descendants of James CLARK that came to Onondaga county from
Connecticut about 1800 had family reunions for many years and I have
located several of the newspaper announcements about the reunions which
provided me with many names and details about the married females and their
off spring, etc.
I have performed extensive personal research back to about Capt. Solomon
CLARK and before that have relied mostly on published records.
I have tested DNA at FamilyTreeDNA with Y-DNA 67, the Full mtDNA, and
Family Finder. My kit number is 210812 and my GEDCOM has been uploaded to
FTDNA and Ancestry.com.
Is there a chance that my Family Finder results might be able to help
confirm that I have CLARK relatives that might have been tested also?
There is also some CLARK information on my website and blog:
Upstate New York Genealogy,
www.unyg.com
Dick Hillenbrand
Thanks for any interest and happy to correspond and share.
I just got an email saying that I have to do my DNA test again for the 3rd
time.

No I havent as yet. Can you view other Clarks as quite often, you are asked
to subscribe for a fee. I had mt brother who is a Place ydna done recently
our admins created a MyHeritage page for us, where we could put a basic
Pedigree chart where others can compare. I was able to put ours from my
furthest to about four generations. That would be handy for Clark as well.

My earliest known Clark is James Clark, who is listed as the father of Hilaire "Eli" Clark, born in 1811? in Avoylles Parish, Louisiana. The name spellings were changeable at that time in Louisiana depending on the language of the priest or whoever was compiling the records, so that adds a bit to the confusion. Jacques? Santiago? I wouldn't say I have an impossible brick wall on this - but DNA matches would help clarify the various Clarks. I can't convince the Clark cousin who could help with this to do DNA testing! My FTDNA kit # is F50837. I still have work to do on the FTDNA matches as well as GEDmatch. Thanks for any suggestions or leads.

Carol,
Be sure to let us know what your Kit # is. It will take a number of weeks for your results to be tokenized, but we can do simple one-to-one comparisons before then.
Who is your earliest known Clark ancestor?

I have Clark relatives in Louisiana from at least late 1700s in the St. Landry/ Avoylles/ and now Evangeline Parishes. There were several Clark families, apparantly unrelated. I keep looking for Clark connections in my DNA matches lists but haven't had any success. I have loaded my data to GEDmatch and hope that will help me find more clarification in the Clark connections. One of the Clark families came from Ireland through Baltimore, MD in the late 1700s, but the others were noted to have arrived in Louisiana from other locations in the US with no indication of country of origin. Thanks Fay. I'm really frustrated with Ancestry.
Don't see anyone among the responses related to my Capt. Nathaniel Clark from CT whose daughter Sarah married Timothy Mather on 02/02/1792 BUT I don't know where. He was from Lyme, CT. They moved to NY around 1800 after their 3rd child was born.

Hi Sharon,
My maternal grandmother was a Clark. I did the familyfinder test about
three years ago. I have yet to find anyone connected to me. My Clark/e were
from Moreton Essex and surrounding districts of Essex, England, where I was
born.

My biggest brick wall is John Baylis Clarke/Clark, Sr. He spelled his
name without the "e" the few times that I have seen his signature. His
son, J. B. Clark, Jr, for the most part spelled it without the "e", but
several of his grandchildren spelled it with the "e" and their
descendents still do.
J. B. Clark, Sr. was born c1791 in SC and died 1855 in Anderson, SC. His
birthdate may not be right as I only have the 1850 census to go by. He
married Jane "Janey" Sammons (c1783 NC-aft 1860 Anderson), daughter of
John Sammons, Sr. and Elizabeth Walker Sammons who had moved from VA
through NC to Greenville, SC by 1786. It may have been a second
marriage for Jane since she was older than John B. Clark by several
years if the 1850 census is right. John Baylis Clark, Sr. was a cabinet
maker and probably a small farmer. John B. Clark, Jr. was a merchant
tailor.
John Baylis Clark Jr's civil war records on the Fold3 website reveal
that he was born in Greenville, SC so I know that his father, John B.
Clarke, Sr, was in Greenville, SC by 1824 and probably before as his
wife was from there. J. B. Clark, Sr, was first seen in Anderson, SC, in
1831 when he signed a petition, and then between 1836 and 1840 he bought
about ten lots in the town of Anderson. He and Jane had two children
Elizabeth A. Clark ( 1820-1857) who married Jesse R. Smith in Anderson
and John B. Clarke, Jr (1924-1888). Both must have been born in
Greenville, SC.
I'm looking for any Clarke/Clark connections to my John Baylis Clark
in Greenville or anywhere else in SC. He's been like a lone wolf; I've
never found any relatives. Any help would be truly appreciated.

I have done a DNA test on family finder and also have yet not come across
any strong matches to Clark, although I have a YDNA 67 marker test and
match someone in the USA, who has links to Sir James Clerke and Elizabeth
Ferrers from Kent, England.
Apparently, you can match back a thousand years on Family Finder, depending
on how your genes have passed down. If I do descend from Sir James Clerke,
some of his descendants must have migrated to Ireland as that was where my
2nd great grandfather was born. I found a will of a George Clerke a
merchant from London, around the time of King James the First, who passed his
land in Ireland, to his son Nicholas.
Trying hard to find an Irish connection to prove it, I also seem to be
the only descendant from England.

I have been looking at census records in Monroe, Davis, and Van Buren counties in Iowa. Davis county is in the middle of the other two. I have found a collection of Clark families that I think are all related connected back in a path of migration from PA through OH, IN, and then to these counties in IA. I am wanting to do a collection of census breakdowns on these families tracing them as I did several years ago with my Chambers family to figure out relations. I was able to find that Chambers family of 7 brothers and their parents in every census they were in from 1800 through 1930. What helped that search was that that family was almost all home with their mother in 1850. These Clarks were all married and had their own young families in 1850, and were living in the same general area.
There was a pattern of names that may link these together, that they all had some or all of the names Joseph, Samuel, Thomas, John, and William, Their naming patterns were the same, and they were all coming from PA and IN, and about the same ages
My 3rd great grandmother was Sarah Jane Clark, married to Aaron G. Chambers in Albia, Monroe County in 1853. They were living there in Troy, Monroe county in 1856. In 1860, they were in Village, Van Buren county. That was a thriving little town in 1860, and was completely gone in 1861. The railroad had come in, and the fact that it seems to have been a shipping point on the Des Moines River went away.
I think my Sarah Jane was the Sarah J. Clark, daughter of William Clark and Polly Ann, in Union, Davis, Iowa in 1850, she was the right age, and born in IN, even though, whoever transcribed the census on ancestry put down LA. It does initially look like La, but her younger brother Isaac has what that census taker used for ditto for birth place, and he was born Indiana. Also what the transcriber called an L looks identical to what the census taker used for I in Iowa on the same page, and the second letter what they called an a is open at the bottom like an n.
Some online say William Clarks father was Thomas Clark, , 68, born 1782, NC, but was also connected to York PA, who was in the 1850 Cedar, Van Buren, IA census along with James Clark, 66, NC, and Samuel Clark, 38, OH, and his family.
Other Clarks I believe were related were, and I am just giving heads of households here:
John M. Clark, 64, PA, Village, Van Buren, Iowa 1860
Julius L. Clark, 35 OH, Village, Van Buren, Iowa 1860
Joseph Clark, 65, PA, Harrisburg, Van Buren, Iowa, 1860
R. Clark, 63, PA, Washington, Van Buren, Iowa, 1860
W.R. Clark, 25, OH, Washington, Van Buren, Iowa, 1860
possibly Elizabeth, 54, MD or MA, 1860 Des Moines, Van Buren, Iowa, widow of Samuel Clark, 37, VA, 1850 Des Moines, Van Buren, Iowa
John Clark, 62, PA Washington, Van Buren, Iowa 1860
M. Clark, 27, PA Harrisburg, Van Buren, Iowa, 1860
William Clark, 40, PA, Farmington, Van Buren, 1860
In Cedar, Van Buren, Iowa was the widow of Samuel Clark, daughter in law of Thomas Clark:
Mary Clark, 36, NC, Cedar, Van Buren, Iowa, 1860
Vernon, Van Buren, Iowa, 1860 had 2 Clark families that may have been connected
James, 35, KY, had a Joseph, John, and William all born in IN
Rufus, 33, OH
