Sorry Steve I have no idea. Your Lorenzo and mine are two different people. I know my Lorenzo is buried in Indiana and have read posts of a Lorenzo Dow Clark having been born in New York and buried in Kentucky. My Lorenzo wasn't married to any Martha to my knowledge. All ancestors before my generation are gone that would have any further information that could assist in tracing our family back any further. Sorry I can't be of any further assistance in the Clark history.

John Thomas Clark was born est. 1840 (York) and Isabella Bradshaw est. 1845 (Chester District)they married around 1860-1861 prior to John joining the Confederate Army. They had one son John Thomas Jr.(B. 8-11-1863) who later became a doctor and moved to Hobucken, North Carolina where he married Cora Lee Alcock. John, Sr. died at the Siege of Petersburg in 1864 and Isabella met a tragic death by fire around 1875. I have come to many deadends with piecing my family together and this story comes to me through family members down through the years....I have pictures to prove they lived..but little to go on paper documents.....any help will be most appreciated.....Sue Fulcher...Fayetteville, North Carolina

I have recently happened upon what may be the gravesite of my ggggg grandfather John Clark who died at Pittman Creek (McCotter Hammock Island)on the Pamlico Sound near Whortensville. Finding the missing pieces has become near to impossible. He must have been of some importance as his gravesite is the only one marked with an actual gravestone....others are only marked with large stones. I have pretty much found everyone except for him and he is an important missing link....ANYONE?

Does anyone have more information on this person, or the family in general. I'm hoping this is the Willliam CLARKE (with the E) who married Mary HANCOCK, All Saint's Fulbourn, Cambs, in 1800.

Hi!I know that this is a very old post, but I am doing some research for a family friend and some of the names in this thread are very familiar. We are all in Madison County, AL. It has been passed down that he is a direct line from Lewis/Clark, and they own property that is a historical marker, so it makes sense but I just can make the connection. It would really mean a lot to him if I could get any information. Thanks!
His greatgrandparents (i believe, maybe a little further back) are Benjamin Clark and Elizabeth Lee

I am looking for the birth parents of Presley Clark, and if possible the exact birth date of Presley, and also his exact birth place. I have heard recently that Presley had a brother by the name of Jonathan, and that his Mom's name was Elizabeth. I am also trying to find his wife, Eliza Second's, maiden name. I really don't think that Second was her last name. According to my Mom, we are also related to George Rogers Clark, and I'd love to find out how.
Presley first appears in the 1830 census and is living in Clark County, Indiana/Jeffersonville. He then appears in the 1840 census and living in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour. The 1850 census says he was 48 years old, and estimates his birth year about 1802, and has his birth place listed in Kentucky. The 1860 census says he was 56 years old, and estimates his birth year about 1804, and has his birth place listed in Ohio. The 1870 census says he was 67 years old, and estimates his birth year about 1803, and lists has his birth place listed in Indiana. In 1850, 1860, and 1870, Presley was living in Redding Township/Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. I am looking for the birth parents of Presley Clark. If possible, I am also looking for the exact birth date of Presley, and also his exact birth date.
Presley died between April 1876 - 1880 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana.
Presley had four wives. He married Caroline Hendelider/Henderlider May 28, 1823 in Floyd County, Indiana/New Albany, Indiana. Caroline was born about 1804 and died between 1824 and1833. Presley then married Eliza Second about 1833 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. (I don't think that Eliza's last name was Second). Eliza was born in 1810 in Virginia, and died between 1855 and1858 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. Presley then married Evaline/Emeline (Bristow) Coen/Goen October 21, 1858 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. She was born 1825 in Indiana, and died before 1860. He then married Marcia "America" Findley between 1861- 1869 in Jackson County, Indiana. She was born between 1817 and 1818 in Kentucky, and died March 17, 1901, in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana.
Presley and Eliza had eight children:
1. Margaret Clark: Margaret was born 1834 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana, and died between 1872 and 1924 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. She married James W. Holmes March 26, 1851 in Jackson County, Indiana. He was born about 1834, and died between 1852 and 1924. She then married James W. Brown March 16, 1869 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. He was born about 1834, and died between 1869 - 1924.
2. Cassandra/Cassenda Clark: Cassandra/Cassenda was born January 1836 or January 1837 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. She died between 1879 and 1926 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. She married John Conrad April 11, 1878 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. He was born about 1836, and died between 1879 and 1926. She then married A. Dancy between 1881 and 1899 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana, and he died before 1920.
3. Samuel T. (Tilden) Clark: Samuel was born July 10, 1838 in Indiana, and died June 22, 1881 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana.
4. Presley Clark: Presley was born in 1842 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana, and died July 21, 1872 in Jackson County, Indiana.
5. Eliza Clark: Eliza was born in August 1845 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana, and died before 1935 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. Eliza married Thompson Hardin February 4, 1877 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. He was born about 1845, and died between 1878 and 1935.
6. James Clark: James was born October 1847 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana, and died April 20, 1924, in Jackson County, Indiana/Brownstown, Indiana He was buried April 22, 1924, at the Ackeret Chapel Cemetery in Redding Township/Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. He married Mary Salladine July 9, 1873, in Jackson County, Indiana. He was born between 1847 and 1852, and died between 1880 and 1929.
Note About James Clark: In 1924 he resided in Hamilton Township in the Northeastern Part of Jackson County, Indiana, and was brought to the county infirmary the last three months of his life.
7. George Clark: George was born in 1851 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. He died March 22, 1876, in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. He was buried March 23, 1876, in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. He married Martha Jane Coen August 6, 1874, in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. She was born in 1844 in Indiana, and died October 28, 1932, in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. She was buried October 30, 1932, in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana.
Note About George Clark: George was stabbed to death March 22, 1876, by Moses Emly in Redding Township.
8. Thomas "Tommy" Clark: Thomas "Tommy" Clark was born in 1854 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana, and he died before 1944.
Presley Clark and Evaline/Emeline Coen/Goen had one child:
1. Charlotte Clark: Charlotte was born November 1859 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana, and died between 1877 and 1949 in Jackson County, Indiana. She married Lafayette Thomas December 3, 1876, in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana. He was born between 1849 and 1859. He died between 1877 and 1949 in Jackson County, Indiana/Seymour, Indiana.
Note About Presley Clark and Evaline/Emeline Coen/Goen: In the 1860 census there were two other children living in the household: Martin Clark who was 16 years old at the time, and Louisa J. Clark who was 14 years old at the time. Where they came from, I don't have a clue. I have a feeling that Martin and Louisa were from Evaline's/Emeline's marriage to Thomas Coen/Goen.
Any information that you could find would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Betsy Emhuff

P. S. I recently found a Presley Clarke in the 1820 census who was living in Richmond, Virginia, at the time, and now I am wondering if he could be related in some way.

Our family suspects it is linked to benjamin clark brother of GRC's grandfather. Word is that BC had 29 children by how many wives. I cant get back that far. We know loosely Wood Clark to Wood Strain Clark to John Brooks Clark (my gg grandfathet) to Martha jane Clark to my mom.
It is most frustrating. We are lateral kin to Wm and GR Clark and that family.
Good luck in your hunt.
Sally.

Good afternoon.
I have been researching Lorenzo Dow Clark in my family tree quite a while, and the similarity to your record is uncanny. My Lorenzo was born 12/25/1814, according to his tombstone, and I know that he was found in the census in Gill Co., Indiana with his wife and daughter, and then he moved to central Illinois (Richland Township), where he died in 1870. My Lorenzo married Martha Patsy Boone, widdow of Levi Harper.
Do you think that these two persons are the same Lorenzo Dow Clark? If not, any ideas where my Lorenzo came from -- the 1850, 1860, & 1870 state that he was born in Kentucky...
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Steve
