Silas, however, "knew who would treat him friendly," and always found a welcome hand at the John and Fanny Brightwell home; Fanny was distant kin to Silas through his mother's Holt family. The Brightwell farm lay across the high bluffs and table land in southeast Taney county bordered on the south by White River. As usual, Silas came to stay a week. The family always saw him coming in the distance, kicking up small clouds of summer dust on the country road. Mrs. Brightwell then sent her children upstairs to prepare for Silas' first duty-a bath and clean clothes.
Fanny assigned her young boys to provide company and transportation for "Uncle Clabe" during his stay. The youths led an old horse while Silas rode around the White River country. Hillary Brightwell (1912-), John and Fanny's youngest and seventh son, remembers taking Silas to all the highest promontories in the neighborhood where he would dismount and sit for two or three hours gazing over the land, sometimes recording pages of notes. After several days both Hillary and Silas mounted horses, and under escort, Silas struck out for old friends on Big Creek; Hillary returned home with both horses.

I have just come acroos this site and put in Mungo Clark and up pops all this My father gave a list of Clark names in the early 1990's and I have folowed them all over the place but the part that caught my attention but never followd up was a note taht said ''other offshoots in Alberta and Saskathcewan. I have a lot of info on the Clarks of Forneth and Caputh where there are quite a few in the grave yard at Caputh and Forneth .They all seemed to be attached to the big house in senior capacity as gamekeeprs and land sterwards(factors) If you want some info I can pass on Birth Death and Marriage info copies
My grandfather Allan Clark was born to Mary Clark daughter of John Clark but no father is noted on the birth cert so can only assume that the big hoose had an involvement!!!!

I am trying to get info on my Great Grandfather John Clark.
I have the following:
Had 11 children with Emily Wild (Wilde)
Children & their spouses as follows:
Charles Edward Clark (married Edith Amelia Pascoe 1907)
Benjamin Clark - died young never married
William Logan Clark (married Louise Clissold 1905)
Alfred Walter Clark (married Anne Fitzpatrick 1903)
Albine Jane Clark (married William Cook (Cooke) 1920)
George Morris Clark ( marraige not confirmed)
John Henry Clark - died young never married
Edith Ellen Clark (married David John William Samuel Halpen Scholes 1907)
Joseph Rheuban Clark - marraige not confirmed but possibly married Iris Cropley 1919
David Bruce Clark (married Amy Brice Sedgeman 1920)
Donald Bedford Clark never married Killed In Action World War One.
I have the following on John Clark but it is not confirmed:
Born in Cambridge Eng about 1841.
Came to Australia working on a boat, jumped ship in Australia and worked on paddlesteamers in Echucha.
Possibly worked as a blacksmith.
Died in 1925 Royal Park Mental Hospital.
The following is confirmed:
No marriage cert has been found for John & Emily.
Emily wilde left John Clark sometime before 1908 when she married Fred Nash.
Emily says on her marriage cert to Fred Nash she was a widow since 1898 which is untrue as John Clark was still alive in 1914 according to the 1914 Electoral Rolls, living at 5 Issac st Brunswick with my grandparents, DJWSH Scholes & Edith Helen Clark (his daughter).
2 of John Clarks sons put John Clark of 5 Issac St Brunswick as their NOK on their enlistment papers for WW1.
If anyone can help me getting info on John and his origins in Eng etc it would be much appreciated.

You may wish to seek out a copy of "The descendents of Samuel Clark of Wethersfield, Ct" by Rev. Edgar Clark 2nd ed. 1897 I have it on CD from Quintin Pub.
I think your Jehiel connects in along my line, although it is hard to judge without birth or death years.
Jehiel Clark b.1711 Bedford, NY d. ca 1777 Balmville, Newburgh,NY m. Lydia Holmes and had Samuel 1741-1823, James 1743- ,Julia 1744- (m. _____Leonard),Daniel 1745- ,Catherine 1746-(m. Samuel English), Eleanor 1746-1835 (m.Anning Smith), Lewis 1747- , and Jehiel Jr. 1749- .
Samuel, James, Julia and Catherine all moved to Saratoga Co, NY during the Revolution. Daniel moved to Vermont. Samuel is my ancestor. He named his eldest son Jehiel and had 5 grandsons named Jehiel (3 were Clarks). Because this Clark family had a tendency to carry names from generation to generation, I suspect that your Jehiel may be related to Daniel, son of the first Jehiel. He supposedly had a son James who lived in Vermont and married Betsey Wright.

Ready the rice: Actors guild to recreate famous Bowling Green wedding
Folks from all over the United States. Silver-spoon style. And a train wreck in the night. And a little town called Bowling Green swelled from 2,400 to 8,000-plus.
It had no choice. After all, the collect citizenry of the state of Missouri had been invited: Come join Mr. and Mrs. Champ Clark as their daughter is wed. Daughter Genevieve indeed wed Master James McIlaney Thomson that day in 1915; and, as it turned out, it was no train wreck. Between nervous energies, borderline catastrophe and a rain storm, Genevieve became Mrs. Thomson.
An estimated 8,000 people attended 'the wedding' that June 30.
A regal day, it must have been, since unrivaled in the working class town the Clarks called home.
And certainly, its exploits earned a liberal polishing of embellishments, as press from all over the nation trumpeted the day. Fittingly so, too, as the bridegroom was editor/publisher of the New Orleans Item.
All eyes, it seemed were focused on Pike County. After all, father of the bride, James Beauchamp "Champ" Clark was one of the most influential people in the nation. After all, he was speaker of the House of Representatives.
Days and years have fleeted since then. But the home still stands. And the Clarks are still remembered for the impressions they made when the new century was still young.
The house, Honeyshuck, has been reclaimed and turned into a house museum.
Champ's portrait hangs in the third floor of the Pike County Courthouse where he once served as county prosecutor. Outside, a steadfast Clark cast in bronze braves the elements and welcomes guests and from time to time is photographed by a tourist. The bridge that links Pike County, Missouri, to Pike County, Illinois is the Champ Clark Memorial Bridge. The September "Heritage Festival", is officially the "Champ Clark Heritage Festival."
His legacy lives on here.
But it is the wedding day that still draws some of the most gleaming recollections. And when this year's festival that still bears Champ Clark's name returns, it will be that moment in time that takes center stage.
Actually, Honeyshuck, 207 East Champ Clark Drive in Bowling Green will serve as the stage as the Etc. Senior Theatre Company in St. Louis as they bring the wedding to life.
Dolores Kane, director, has drafted a script and delved into the day and the Clark family. Kane and the theater company have delivered a number of presentations in recent years in the St. Louis area.
Rehearsals began Aug. 14 in St. Louis. Performers hail from the St. Louis area and beyond and a few key members of the cast - the bride and bridesmaid - have been recruited from the local talent pool.
Performances are to begin at noon. Tickets, or invitations, will be available on the courthouse square the day of the Festival. There is no admission charge.
The format will provide guests a different way to take in a play. Actors will remain at some seven locations throughout the home. There, they will act out specific scenes of the buildup before the wedding. Guests will walk from room to room as the action unfolds.
While the theater group won't be shipping in 8,000 people, the presentation promises to be period-authentic and attention will be paid to every detail.
Newspaper articles of the day heralded the coming of the wedding, including the New York Times, which called Genevieve a "handsome girl". And when the proverbial knot at last was tied, news provided at least a portion of the jaw-dropping registry: gifts fit for royalty, made of silver and a stunning 117-diamond necklace. There were gifts of silver from townships, from President Wilson and former President Taft. One newspaper article mused that gifts totalled $25,000 in value.
Undoubtedly, all have been dispersed through the family, perhaps to museums, and, in general, cast to the four winds.
To find out what the original dress looked like, information has been gleaned from old newspaper articles and photographs in The Champ Clark House library. The bride's and bridesmaids' dresses will play an integral part in the story. As will the climate and current events of 1915; internationally, nationally and locally.
Not only are dresses being custom fashioned, but organizers have recruited a brass ensemble to play period-appropriate music, including two pieces documented to have been played at the wedding: "The Wedding March" and "Sweet Genevieve."
Wedding day 1915 earned attention from society editors from across the nation, and likely, from Europe, too.
The 2008 Heritage Festival presentation, "The Day Missouri Came to the Wedding," is funded through a grant from the Missouri Humanities Council.

I will need to look @ what I have on lineage info but I do believe her husband was also a physician. I am using my memory (a dangerous thing) and I believe her husband was a surgeon during the civil war and served with Sherman. I will look up more info if you are interested. Let me know.
