I have in my files a Clarissa A. Clark who was born in Connecticut in 1833 or 1834. She Married Joseph Carter Post, son of Hezekiah and Anna (Clark) Post on 28 Aug 1848 in Westbrook, Middlesex County, Connecticut. Joseph was born 7 Nov 1821. The only pieces of documentation/information I have of her are their marriage and the 1850 census for Saybrook, Middlesex County, Connecticut. She was 16 years old at that census, and the person taking the census states she was married at the age of 16, even though other records indicate they were married nearly 2 years earlier. I can find nothing in the 1870 census, but in the 1880 census, Joseph is in the household of his father. Apparently Clarissa may have died at some time between 1860 and 1880 and it looks like Joseph re-married. There are also some children in the household, and they probably belong to Joseph and Clarissa or his new wife.
I would be grateful for any information as to Clarissa's lineage or about her children. Thanks!

Hi Diana,
How lovely to hear from you. And yes, it would great to meet up when you are here! I break off from school this Friday and shall be pretty much free for the next 6/7 weeks.I plan to head off into the mountains for 3/4 days next week and I have a week's dancing in Spain later in August. Apart from that I shall be having a lazy time and getting back into all this family stuff! I know Dad will be interested in meeting up too.How strange to think you have been in St. Andrews on other occasions.Yes, I have done quite a bit of research into the Clarks and Mentiplys - mainly to put together a written and photographic record with a little info about the times - lots of photographs of houses where they stayed etc!! We have some old photos - quite a number of Alexander and Isabella Mentiply with their children which are lovely. And at long last, just in this last 2 weeks after about a year of fruitless searching I found the 'Clark' baby who died. Dad was feeding me all the wrong infor!
mation!! Fred was born in 1908 and lived just 18 days. I have still to find out if he has a burial place. Perhaps he was too young. We also have some photos of Jeannie and Carrie Clark with their Aunt Jane who came to look after all the children when her sister Margaret died. They are all in black and wearing mourning beads so it is likely it was taken not long after the girls' mother died. And we have another which we believe to be Jane and Margaret's mother Eliza Knox. Unfortunately there seem to none of John Clark. I am sure that Carrie Clark (his daughter) would have had some but who knows where they have gone! It is a pity as I would have loved to have had a photo of John and Margaret. I shall certainly copy the photos I think you would like but I shall have to post them on to you as I have no scanner. I am a bit of a luddite with technology!! I shall try also - once on holiday, to put together what I have - although you no doubt have it - in some kind of coherent orde!
r as it is not hugely user friendly! But yes, let me know when you are
planning to be here. I shall check out your personal email address and make a note of it! Look forward to hearing from you!
Carol

Hi Carol,
Really glad you made contact again. I'd be delighted to learn more about the Clarks in Scotland. I've been to St Andrews a few times over the past twenty years and had always tried but failed to find any relatives in Scotland. I recall stories that Martha and also one of the other sisters had visited relatives in Scotland but no one today seemed to know any names and addresses.
I've got information on the Stewart side and also wrote a document including all the information I knew on the Clarks of St Andrews. This will not be new to you, but I'd be happy to share a copy and any other information if you would like to contact me via email. (I've temporarily made my email address public in my ancestry profile.)
I also am tentatively planning a trip to St Andrews for a week in July. I would love to meet and see any photo albums or family artifacts you could share.
With best wishes,
Diana Stewart

Hello All,
I am trying to contact Grant CLARK and only hope that he has the same email address as above which may be unlikely after almost 7 years to the day. I am referring to your msg: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.clark/1752.6567/mb/ashx.
If unable to reach Grant CLARK, I am hoping that others of you who replied to this basic msg may have some information and contact address for Grant and perhaps have established more detailed information on these subject families. I see that the following people replied or mentioned Alexander CLARKs etc. : Diana Stewart, Carol Anderson, Gordon151... I would ask that you please contact me at: bernied(a)ns.sympatico.ca
I will be here in Nova Scotia, Canada for the Summer. My reason for seeking this information is this: for 30 + years, I have searched for ancestors, siblings, descendants, emigration, BMD docs for my Grandfather: William Alexander CLARK, bc: 1877, in Merritton, Lincoln County, Ontario, Canada. His Parents were: "ALEXANDER CLARK", bc:1844, Scots Origin. prob. Scotland.(his Parents, ancestors, siblings, all descendants etc are unknown. NO docs. He married: MARY BOYD, b: Oct 1850, Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland. (Location unknown). She was the daughter of: JOHN BOYD & MARY GUTHRIE, Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland. This BOYD FAMILY including daughter: Mary BOYD, emigrated from Scotland to Grantham, Lincoln Co. Ontario, Canada (near St. Catherines, and Niagara Falls area) in ca: 1871. (No mention of Alexander CLARK). However, Alexander, Mary & 3 Children emigrated from Ontario, Canada to MASS, USA..in 1879 to NY, via Buffalo, Erie Co. NY; in my Grandfather's record(only one found) his immigration date was 1 April 1879... which places him about 2 years old; and he traveled by NY Central Railroad. Two other children named on the 1880 MASS Census in Attleboro, Bristol Co. MASS. was Mary CLARK, age 7; (Wm.A.Clark,(4yr); and youngest John Clark, age ca 1yr. (bc: Aug 1878/79).
When I first sought emigration data on my Grandfather: Wm Alexander CLARK, bc: 1877 Can. The USA Naturalization Dept. sent me the Document for GRANT CLARK's family indicated in his message above: clark/1752.6567/mb/ashx. However, to date, I have not found anything that supports this document. And, I have never met any BOYD/CLARK relatives in my life time. I would love to have a birthday present from one of you to possibly connect to the correct family ancestry. By 1920, my Grandfather: Wm Alexander CLARK, with first wife: MARY C. DOYLE fm Worcester, MA...and their Son: my Father: Wm. Albert CLARK removed to Waterbury, CT. Any connections or anything familiar??
I would also like to know if Margery Clark Kapas is still with us in BC, Canada? Or, is there another address to contact someone who has her research on these CLARK/STEWART/ANDERSON/KNOX and related families. I would appreciate your reply soonest. Thank you in advance for your time and response.
Sincerely,
BARBARA CLARK

I haven't much info on him. He would have been my maternal great grandfather. His daughter was Maud(e) Armeania Clark, born in 1902 in Harpursburg, Broome, NY and who was my maternal grandmother. Another daughter was Eva Clark, born 1906. Married (or so I assume) to Cecel (possibly Cecil or Cecelia) Mary Waters, born 1882 in NY. Her mother was named Hattie Waters, but I have no other information on that line. Family rumor has it that Edwin Earl Clark or possibly his father was Native American, but unsure of the tribe. Maud married William Earl Hinkley and her children were Eva May (my mother), Agnes, John, Frank, and Bill (probably William). Any and all info greatly appreciated.

Hi Diana,
Just recently come across your name and realised that I had made contact some time ago (a very long time ago)! I have been on the trail of other family lines within that period and being new to it all had never actually accessed the 'community' section of the site. Please accept my apologies. I have recently come back to the Clark line and am now following up the siblings of Alexander - Jane, Robert and Carrie. I have found Jane and Alexander Stewart in Manitoba, when they emigrated etc and drawn up son Norman's WW1 papers.I haven't done much more - too busy at school - but with summer holidays coming up I shall be right back into it all. My Dad remembers Martha Stewart visiting St. Andrews way back in the late 50's. She was my gran's cousin. My dad recalls her being a good golfer - although he still remembers beating her the day they played on the Links!! He was just lucky - apparently got 2 birdies on the first 2 tees!! I do not share his love of golf!! Dad believes Marth!
a never married. Am I correct in assuming you are from one of the other Stewart siblings? I am curious! My gran kept in touch with the Canadian side but of course, all communications cease when the older generations pass on. Since last year I have made contact with a number of people interested and following the various branches of my family and it would be lovely if you were to get back to me. I shall now know what to do to access you!! Yes, there are Clarks/Andersons still residing here in Scotland and in St. Andrews. Yesterday was a beautiful day and I wandered throught he cathedral grounds and visited John Clark's grave where wife Margaret Knox and sister Jane Knox, John's grand-daughter Bessie lies there slso as does his young son James who died within a short time of mother Margaret (1870). I have a photograph of the headstone and also other Clarks of that time if you are interested. Look forward to hearing from you

Thanks for your help, if you see anything close, please keep me in mind.
Our Clarks lived in Ozark, Mo, for awhile, then to Mills county, IA, finally Sarpy County, NE. Mostly, can't verify any of this until the last group in Sarpy County.
Rumor was George moved up here, took off with a wagon train, leading it to California, never returned. Can't verify that either.
Since the names, George, Hirem, Wilbur, fall in your line, I'm hoping someday to find some connection.
Thanks
Dee

I have a George Wesley Clark (b 1832 TN/ died unk)and a Hiram G. Clark(b 3-17-1870 TN/ d 1-23-1922 AL) Hiram married Mary Ann Conley 5-23-1892 and they had 12 children.
Hiram's father, Wesley as he was called, married Mary Ann Chamber abt 1856 in either NC or TN. I have a line on their children but I cannot verify if it is Hiram;s father/family for sure. Record keeping of birth, death and marriages is very unreliable back then and Ancestry.com is no better.
If I run across your family members in my research I will be glad to respond and let you know what I discovered.
