Wedding Bells
On Wednesday, January 18th, at 4 p.m. At the residence of A. M. Switzer of Lincoln township, Mr. Harry Lyman and Miss. Sadie M. Clark were joined together in holy matrimony by the Rev. J. A. Holmes, pastor of the Elmer M. E. church. The young bride and groom are well and favorably known in Lincoln and Reno townships, the former being the ward of A. M. Switzer, at whose beautiful and hospitable home the nuptials were celebrated. After the ceremony congratulations were in order, when the many guests were invited to an elegant and sumptuous repast which was presided over by the amiable host and his estimable wife. The wedding presents were numerous and beautiful.
Among the guests present were: Mr. And Mrs. E. Lyman, Mr. And Mrs. Frank Lewis, Mr. And Mrs. J. A. Curtis, Mr. And Mrs. P. E. Switzer, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Knause, Mr. And Mrs. Chas. Huffman, Mr. And Mrs. F. Lyman, Mr. And Mrs. John Clark, Mrs. Bowman, E. A. Benham, Frank Lyman and L. B. Switzer.
We are informed that several other young couples of Lincoln are about to embrace hymeneal fetters, which, if correct, we extend congratulations in advance.

I found a book in my Dad's library about the RCAF during WWII that has several references to Peter Clark and his pilot Webb. It appears that F/O P. Clark was a navigator.
This is not the same book I spoke about in my previous e-mail, which I will still seach for, as it was strictly focussed on 418 Squadron.
I reviewed the passages with my Dad today, and he remembered more details about this man. He definitely was on the Squadron when my Dad was there. One of the references in the book refers to Peter Clark as Butch Clark. I asked my Dad why he was called that nickname. My Dad said because Peter was very slightly built and quite young (probably two years younger than my Dad (;>)), and was the least likely looking guy to be called "Butch". I guess that is the same as calling a bald man "Curly". There is only one reference in the book to my Dad and his pilot, but there are about 4 or 5 for Peter Clark. That is actually amazing when you consider that this book is about the whole period of WWII for the whole RCAF.
I have had an extremely busy with my Dad and Mum and was home quite late, so I will not have time to transcribe the passages here. If the original requestor would like me to scan the references and send them along as an attachment, please contact me at my personal e-mail address which is leisurelodge(at)sympatico(dot)ca My father has loaned the book to me until next week so I can send this information along.
Kindest regards,
Anne Clark-Stewart UE

A great big thank you to all of you who is helping me with finding more information about Peter Clark.
Yesterday a very kind person sent me some information, which I think was found in Kerr´s service records in the National Archives.
Peter Clark´s next of kin is listed as father: A.E.Clark, of 39 Wellesley Road, Strawberry Hill, Middx and his wife as Mrs P Clark, of 14 Princes Square, London, W.2.
Although these addresses are 60 years old, to me it´s a great leap forward!
Anette

Hello Anne,
I know your posting wasn't directed at me, but did want to thank you for it. I did get kind of excited when I saw 'Edmonton' for I've been trying to track down a William 'Bill' CLARK who was out of Edmonton, but my Dad met him in Esquimalt/West Coast Command, RCN/RCNVR in 1941-1942. No luck so far, but was a bit older than my Dad, so would be in his 90s now. Looking for his daughter Andrena/Andrina born c1937 /-
Although both my parents were RCNVR/RN, maternal grandfather and future father-in-law were both RAF, so know a wee bit about how Bomber Command worked, often with a mix of the Commonwealth operating together etc, but I'm by no means an expert on it. So it was super for you and your Dad to come forth with the information you posted.
I don't the original poster's name, only the nick-name, but I'd like to help as much as I possibly can, for I think what she is doing is wonderful. Perhaps others with your Dad's knowledge will also step forward.
Happy Birthday to your Dad and may he have many more happy and healthy years ahead of him.
They can keep the sports icons, movie stars etc .. the real heroes were guys like your Dad and mine!! (RCNVR'39-45; PPCLI-2Batt Korea; RCSCC '53-71)
All the best ~
Toni (ex-WRCNS & husband ex-RN Submarines)

The 418 was a RCAF Sqadron know as "The City of Edmonton" Squadron. My father, John I. Clark, born in Saskatchewan and raised in Ottawa, was a Fl/Lt. Navigator on 418 with his pilot Bert Ford from Lacombe Alberta. They did 34 missions on both day and night intruder operations over Germany and occupied France.
My Dad turns 88 today. When we were out on Sunday, I told him about your search for info on Peter Clark. He did remember there was a Peter Clark in his squadron who was British. Unfortunately, my Dad didn't know him well. My Dad said he thinks that he came into 418 just before my Dad left 418 to become an Instructor. As you can imagine, there was lots of flow through in the squadrons due to the losses they sustained. My Dad says that there were people from all over the commonwealth on their Squadron, including Australia, New Zealand as well as some British airmen.
If you Google "418 Squadron" you will find lots of references to it, as it was the most successful Squadron in the RCAF during WWII. My Dad has written his memoirs which are in the National Library of Canada, the Canadian National War Museum Library and the War Plane Heritage Museum in Mount Hope, Ontario. There are a few books written by former 418 members which you will find referenced in the various 418 sites. Many are avaialabe through the various on-line book sellers at a reasonable price. My Dad also has the book on the 418 Sqadron which was published in a limited edition after WWII ended. I'll check it out tomorrow and see if I can find any reference to your Peter Clark in the book. It is quite possible, as the book is an overview of the Squadron's operations during that time.
Unfortunately, I have no other info on your Peter Clark, so I hope others on this list will be able to help you out more than I.
If I find anything in the book, I will be back though this message board.

Hi,
With that knowledge, I'd go with Peter CLARK having been British, until you know/suspect otherwise, though don't discount another from the Commonwealth, if you should come across him in RAF data. [I'm confident you wouldn't do that anyway!]
Out of curiosity, regarding the Commonwealth chaps next to his grave, do they all have the same death date as Peter? If they do, this might indicate all were the crew of one plane.
Send me James KERR's parent's names at my regular e-mail address: amheater(at)cogeco(dot)ca Put James KERR - Trenton in the subj. line. I too have a James KERR in my tree (gm's 1st cousin) but he was not from Ontario at all. He was born in the USA (I think) and grew up mainly in the Spokane Washington area.
I live only 60 miles east of Trenton .. in a straight line down the motorway! If I have his parent's names, I can ring all the KERRs in the Trenton/Belleville/Brighton area to locate living family, if they are there. No problem to do so .. and no cost involved other than a bit of time. Meantime, I'm going to see if his medal card is on the CWGC. It might have an address of NOK in Trenton. Trenton by the way, was an RCAF Base, now under combined forces & known as CFB Trenton. I'll see what I can do ... it's ..
The least I can do, for a man who gave his life for my freedom.

Hi Toni,
thank you for your suggestions. I have contacted servicepals and the British Legion.
As for Clark being English or not; I don´t know if it´s significant that he was RAF, not RCAF or RAAF or RNZAF? There are both Canadians, Australians and a New Zealander buried next to Clark in Malmo, but it is clear from their gravestones that they came from Canada etc. Clark only has the RAF badge on his gravestone as does another man, Day, who was from Lancashire (and incidently from the same squadron as Clark).
As another despareate measure I am trying to trace the family of Clark´s pilot, James Bernard Kerr of Trenton,Ontario (he was killed at the same time as Clark but is still missing). So far I have not been able to get very far on this either. I know his parents names but that is about it. I was thinking maybe Kerr´s family would know something about Clark, but it´s a long shot

I wonder if Mary's other name (either middle of first) could have been Amy or Anna. My great-great-great grandmother is Amy or Anna married to Samuel Clark (both born in South Carolina). They are found in the 1800's census records of Perry County, Mississippi, USA. Having been diagnozed with a disorder called porphyria, my DNA confirms that I am from Meditteranean descent. The Clark's of Perry County, Mississippi who were listed in the early 1800s as Free People of Color are Melungeon of Turkish descent.
