My g-g-grandfather was Dr. Andrew Franklin Clark. He is buried in Waldo, Columbia, Arkansas. Many of his descendents are still in the area. In the 1880 census, he & his wife - Maggie Ann Carlock - & 6 children were living in what is now Cleveland Co., AR. He served in an AR regiment during Civil War. The census shows d.o.b "abt. 1837" in Tennessee.
It also shows his father's birthplace as TN & his mother's as S.C. I can't find him in Tennessee!! Does anyone know who his parents were?? Please help!!

The aid-de-camp of Tecumseh, Andrew Clark, was the son of Trader Clark and Elizabeth McKenzie,an Indian captive, living under Chief Petasue which is documented in several sources. Family history notes are that Trader Clark might have the first name William or John, and was the son of a scottish army officer and an Ottawa Indian woman. Andrew Clark was the youngest and had stayed with his father, but his mother returned to Giles County Virginia area with son John Clark and daughter Elizabeth Clark after being found by her father Moredock Mckenzie after many years of captivity. Andrew Clark died 1813 during the same battle Tecumseh was killed.
I do not know if Andrew Clark ever had children. His sister Elizabeth and brother John were born around 1792. Andrew Clark was younger. Elizabeth Clark married William Kirk Eaheart. John Clark married several times.
I have seen the surname of Clark among the Ottowa tribe, but do not know if they are related to Andrew.

You had mentioned "about 1899" when Samuel died. I have information: He died on his farm near Palmyra, MO, of typhoid fever, November 15, 1899. He was buried next to his wife Margaret in the "Crane burying ground" (no idea where that is).

Hi, Clem Clark's father (Samuel) is a brother to my husband's great grandfather (Robert Mason). Would be interested in exchanging information you might have about that branch of the family. I don't have informtion about Clemmy, just that he had a brother James and a sister Polly. Also, that Amanda Anderson was Samuel Vanschoaicke Clark's second wife; his first wife was her cousin, Maraget Anderson; aparently all of Marion county, MO. Samuel and Margaret had no children.
Thank you.

Hello. I'd just like to mention that one of my "concrete-block walls" is a James CLARK born in the 1790 to 1800 timeframe - somewhere. He "appeared" in Little Compton, RI, ~1827, and married a widow, Mrs. Rhoda LAVARE, in nearby Westport, MA, in 1829. They had a daughter in 1836, and then James "disappeared" ~1845.
I've been posting about him for 3 years and no one seems to have this James in their ancestors' families.

Hi! My curiosity was piqued when I saw William Clark married to Mary. I have one of these but your William Clark is not mine; however, I did find this.
William Clark married to Mary Medling. They had Caleb nad this was found in Rootsweb. You probably know about this site www.Rootsweb.com. Could not find anything more on this family--William and Mary. I have not run across the Medling name.
Further, in LDS records and then on to Rootsweb again, I found this.
Caleb Clark married Lydia Eddy on 28 Mar 1790 in Foster, Providence County, Rhode Island. Lydia was the daughter of Lewis Eddy b 28 May 1734 and her mother was Lydia Records married 06 or 15 Jun 1760 in Johnston, Providence County, Rhode Island.
When I go to Rootsweb, I try to find a genalogist whom I am familiar with or I have dealt with in the past. So this is what I did.
Lewis Eddy's father was:
Samuel Eddy and his mother was Deborah Lewis married 22 Aug l730. Deborah had married first John Millard on 19 May 1726. She married second Samuel Eddy.
Deborah's father was Thomas Lewis who married Elizabeth Brooks. I found this from the Personal Collection of James B. Bulloch and the records of the town of Swansea 1662-1705, East Braintree, Mass.
Hope this helps. They are not my relatives that I can find.
Arlene Clarke Haddock

In the Iowa State Census Collection 1836-1925 a Census Dated 1885, Black Hawk County, Spring Creek. There is a relatively large contingent of the Clark family. I suspect that there is a connection to this family in relation to Nelson & Louisa. Can anyone help me find the connection?
Thanks. Jim

Hi Mary, This is a delight to meet someone as interested in our Clark line as I am. We have some others in the family that have done lots of research too. Marston was my 4 great grandfather. His daughter, Elizabeth Clark married my 3rd ggfather. His name was: Ichabod Thomas Gordon Miller. ITG didn't have very good luck with his wives, because he lost his first wife, Martha Mount shortly after she had a child. Elizabeth didn't live too long either, but bore him a son, Benjamin Anderson Miller, who served in the Civil War. Benjamin married Nancy Louden (1st wife/second wife was a Weir) & they had a son, Robert Lee Miller. Lee married Laura Miskell and they had E. Guy Miller who married Hattie LaMaster and they had my Dad, Gordon Benjamin Miller who just passed away September 6, 2008. Marston was quite a colorful charater. He did know Thomas Jefferson and later he and President Harrison (Indiana) were very good friends. Marston came to Ky and southern Indiana and stayed with h!
is first cousin, George Rogers Clark in what is now Clarksville IN in the late 1790's. He went back to Virginia and brought back his wife, Lucy Harper (from the famous Harper's Ferry area of what is now West Virginia). They settled in what is now Salem IN. If you were in the Museum at Salem, then you probably saw all the things there about him. He served in the Indiana State Legislature and even tried to run for Governor against a guy named DePaul (the University is named after him) and they got into a little scuffle and Marston resigned. He had a quick temper, which got him into trouble it seemed. He was appointed and served as overseer of Indiana Affairs in Indiana and was of course General in the War (not the Revolutionary...he was too young), but those that followed. He was a great cartographer, just like his other cousins and platted out downtown Salem. He built the first hotel and jail too there. The place where he and Lucy lived still stands. He was buried there, bu!
t later his body was moved to Crown Hill in Salem. It's a shame that t
here isn't much to note in Salem about his contribution except at the Museum. His daughters didn't live very long and he didn't have any sons. I can get you more info if you want to correspond directly to my e-mail: mmillersmith(a)verizon.net

Marsha, it has been months since you left your post regarding Marston G. Clark, but I just ran across it this evening. His brother, Benjamin Wilson Clark, is my four-times great grandfather. I have been interested in Marston G. for some time and recently visited his grave in Salem, IN. My great grandfather and an uncle both bore the middle name of "Maston," and we believe it may have been in honor of Marston G. (perhaps, given the Kentucky dialect of sometimes dropping the "r" sound). I would be pleased to correspond with you and learn more about your branch of the family.
