KILLED BY TRAIN
W. A. Clark of Pryor Creek Falls Under Train and is Cut to Pieces
Vinita: W. A. Clark, secretary of the Salina Land & Mining Company of Pryor Creek, was killed by the westbound Meteor on the Frisco system at Seneca, Missouri.
John Gors of this city made a run with Clark to catch the train, which was already in motion passing the depot, and Gors got on the front end of the smoker and observed Clark trying to get on the rear of the smoker. after the train had left the town Gors looked for Clark, who could not be found. When he arrived at Vinita he telephoned to Seneca, and later Clark was found cut to pieces on the track dead. W. A. Clark formerly resided in Joplin, Missouri, and was interested in oil prospects at Pryor Creek. He leaves a wife and one child.

Message Board Post:
Greetings,
I have found my 4th Great Grandfather Elias Clark Sr. living in Wayne in Steuben County NY. I am quite sure that this must be my Eliads because it gives his age as being between 70-80 years of age. Listed next to Elias
is an Elias Jr.. A few rows below lists a James Clark. According to Elias Clark DAR Biography Elias and his wife Hiley (Cole) had children named Samuel (1785), Peter (1790), Elizabeth (1789), Margaret (1796), James, and Josiah. The first four offspring in this list I have found documentation or descendants. James and Josiah have been quite evasive. I am thinking that this Elias Jr. may have been Josiah. He is listed to have been between 40-50 years of age. His wife is listed to have been between 30-40 years of age. The James Clark listed was between 50-60 years of age. Both of these families show several male and female children or offspring. I have also learned that parts of Wayne in Steuben County later became part of Tyrone in Schuyler County. There are many Clarks listed in the Wayne and Tyrone area in the middle 1800's. The 1855 census for Tyrone shows an Elias Clark that would have been born around 1807. I am thinking that this Elias could be a grandson or nephew to El!
ias Sr. It also shows an elderly John Clark (80 ) that was born in Orange County NY. This also fits my documentation because I know that Elias enlisted for Military Service in the Revolutionary War in Orange County in 1775 or 6. Elias was also married in the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen in Orange County NY in 1778. He has a brother mentioned (no name given) in his 1831 Revolutionary War pension.
Another item of note is that there is also another Elias Clark (born around 1790 -) listed in the 1855 Census for the village of Catharine in what was then Chemung County and now is Schuyler County. This is interesting because much of this Clan of Clarks lived in the Catharine and Vereran areas Tioga/Chemung/Schuyler in the 1820s. Elizabeth Clark Frost (wife of Jonathan) and Samuel Clark and his wife Ruth Jay spent most of their adult lives living in this area. Elizabeth is buried in Coe Cemetary which in 2002 was in total disarray.
My leg of the Clark Clan Peter Clark (Hannah Taylor Clark) left Catharine around 1832 to migrate west into Medina County Ohio.
I have been researching this line of Clarks for many years and have accumulated considerable information. I am also participating in a Clark DNA Study (60 ) markers and have made some very distant ties going back 15-20 generations.
I would urge any Clark families that lived in or originated from this area of NY State that have hit brick walls to consider that they may link to this line of Clarks. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you
Dennis Clark

HORSETHIEVES ARRESTED
R. C. Clark and A. B. Robertson are now peeping through the bars at Atoka and the probability is that before they steal another horse they will have done time in the pen.
Clark and Robertson are charged with having stole a pair of fine mules from Mr. Patten, at Olney, a brother-in-law to Clark, and while the evidence is not direct it is well connected sufficient to secure conviction thinks the officers.
Deputy Criswell arrested the two men last Thursday morning near Lehigh and in a committal trial before the U. S. Commissioner at Atoka they were bound over.

Hi Edward,
Their father was Edward Clark, but I don't know anything about him, except that he was probably from Stepney or roundabouts and married Alice Foot in St Geo East in 1911, when Alice was 19. Alice was my great-aunt, so I'm trying to find descendants of her children. Edward Clark the son was born in 1921 (so many Edwards!) Let me know if you're connected!

Looking for info on E. Gurney Clark, a Dr. at Columbia Hospital and his wife Beth Layton. They are great Aunt and Uncle of mine. Lived NYC in 40's-70's with vacation home in VT. They had no children. She was born Steuben County NY possibly in the 1906-1914 time frame. She was possibly adopted by family, there maybe a chance her last name may have been Ketchum or Rice. Her 'sister' was Mabel Layton Breen, my grandmother. She is not found on 1910 census with the Laytons. She was the daughter of Henry Layton and Maude Williams. They died in 1913 or 1914. Any info would be helpful and thanks in advance.

Thanks. I had seen those as well. I love how the census takers never quite got my grandmother's name right (Quincey, Quin P).
I think that 1910 census is the magic link that I'm looking for and I had trouble finding it too. I'm going to check the neighdoring counties next.
Thanks for you help.
