Hello,
I would like to communicate with anyone who has a connection with the family of Daniel Miller CLARK, b. c. 1813-1819, Allegany Co, MD, and wife Julianne (Julia Anne) DAWSON, b 20 Jan 1820, Allegany Co, MD.
I am interested in confirmation of both his and her parents, as well as information relating to their children. Especially daughter Julianne (Julia Anne), b. c. 1846.
I am tremendously grateful for your time and any information shared.
Thank you,
Fran
Hi again,
York, Fox, names are seen in Randolph County, NC, some in Orange County, and
Chatham County, NC. (nearby)
John Clarke of Old Anson (records still there) was an adult in the 1740s,
brother Christopher....other common Clarke names. Old Anson was south of
Randolph Co., NC (modern) but not that far away.
Anyone with DNA make up of the Clarkes of Albermarle Co., VA?
Ken
Hi all,
Regarding Clarkes of Wilks County, NC. Wilkes did not form up as a county
very early and you must research several counties which in time became Wilkes.
Note that Old Anson County, NC was one of the first places the Clarkes
settled. Anson at the time included most of western NC, and parts of SC (as the
lines were disputed).
That set of Clarkes are the ones I research. They came from Albermarle
County, Virginia.
So far as I can determine, it was one of John Clarkes daughters who married
Edmund Lilly, of the area which became Montgomery Co., NC later. Since proof
is lacking, I have only the say so of my grandmother who died in 1973, born
in 1895. Her father was William Clarke Wright.
Her sister was Lillium Wright. (spelling?) ( And I did not write down ever
thing as I should have.)
Usually they would name with the entire name of the Clarke related to. So
the name William Clarke Wright throws me a curve. Which might suggest that John
Clarke had a son William who had a daughter to marry Edmund Lilly.
Anyone researching these folks?
Ken
Do you know the relationship of Edward Clark and family to those you list
as being in Grainger Co TN. I am interested in
relationship of his son, Levi, to Nathan Crockett also of Grainger Co TN.

What do you know about the William Clark born 1740?
Wilkes county will book I, 1778-1779 lists William Clark as part of a survey
on 8 Nov 1799 dealing with taxation of land lying on the waters of Reddies
River, Mulberry Creek, Roaring River and New River. William and son David
were members of Roaring River Baptist Church in Wilkes Co NC.
Henry and Thomas, sons of Wm. and Jeremiah York who married William's
daughter left before 1799
Moved to Grainger Co, TN. Henry, Thomas and Jeremiah listed on Grainger
County tax roll for 1799
1800 William Clark listed for the last time in Wilkes Co on a deed in 1800.
William and JosephYork appear in Grainger Co when they are included as
petitioners to the Tn Gen Assy 1 Dec 1801 disputing making three counties instead
of two from Cocke Co line at French Broad and Nola Chucky Rivers to the foot
of the Cumberland mountains or the Indian boundary.
Petition signers were Henry Clark, Joseph York, Jr. Semore York, William
York, Joseph York Sr and William Clark.
Recommendation that part of Grainger Co next to Jefferson Co as far as the
top of Clinch Mountain be made a Superior Court District, signers were:
William York, Joseph York, Jr., Tylor York, Henry Clark and Jeremiah York.
William on tax rolls of Madison Co KY on 11 Aug 1803.
Clay Co KY is formed from Madison Co in 1807 and William and his sons are
listed on the first tax roll.
William's plantation ws located 43 miles from the Court House at Manchester
in Estill Co.
William made his will is Estill Co. He named his children, David, Thomas,
Henry, Sarah Clark Parker, Elizabeth Clark York and his granddaughter Leah
Clark.
William is placed on the tax rolls of Madison County, Kentucky on 11 August
1803. Clay County, Kentucky is formed from Madison County in 1807 and william
and his sons are among those listed on the first tax roll. William's
plantation was located 43 miles from the Court House at Manchester in what was later
to become Estill County.
William left his will in Estill County. In the will he named his children
David, Thomas, Henry, Sarah Clark Parker, Elizabeth Clark York and his
grand-daughter Leah Clark. He left his Cane Church Bible to David; his cooper tools
to Thomas; one dollar each to Henry, Sarah and Elizabeth and to Leah he left
his bed, sheets and his "little pot". To his wife Sarah he left the remainder
of his property.
We also found Fanny, probably Frances, CLARK, living adjacent to David
CLARK, born 1758, son of William in 1820 Clay Co KY census. Fanny was born abt
1786. She married Jonathan FOX. David remarried to "Polly" FOX. What
relationship? We are unsure, but are confident that Fanny belongs to this CLARK
family and Jonathan probably belongs to the same family as Polly FOX.
Our CLARK family settled in Clay Co KY and many still live in the same area,
although William's (born 1740) son David had a son William, born 1791 who
removed to Lawrence Co IN where many of his descendants still live.
William and Leah JOHNSON CLARK family:
WILLIAM1 CLARK was born abt 1740 in North Carolina, and died October 24,
1818 in Estill Co KY. He married (1) ELIZABETH LEAH JOHNSON CLARK. She was
born 1742 in North Carolina, and died December 12, 1804 in Madison Co KY. He
married (2) SARAH "SARY" HIGGINS March 14, 1808 in Clay Co Kentucky Marriage
Bond.
Children of WILLIAM CLARK and ELIZABETH CLARK are:
i. DAVID2 CLARK, b. 1758, North Carolina; d. 1842, Clay Co KY; m. (1)
UNKNOWN UNKNOWN CLARK; m. (2) POLLY FOX CLARK, November 13, 1815, Clay Co KY.
ii. THOMAS CLARK, b. Abt. 1763, North Carolina; m. UNKNOWN UNKNOWN CLARK.
iii. ELIZABETH LEAH CLARK YORK, b. May 07, 1773, Wilkes Co North Carolina;
d. December 07, 1856, Owsley Co KY; m. JEREMIAH YORK III; b. 1779, North
Carolina; d. June 08, 1843, Clay Co KY.
iv. SARAH CLARK PARKER, b. Abt. 1775, North Carolina; d. November 16, 1828,
Clay Co KY; m. UNKNOWN PARKER; b. Abt. 1770; d. Possible husband of Sarah.
v. HENRY CLARK, b. 1779, Wilkes Co NC; d. 1856, Clay Co KY; m. MARTHA JANE
LUNDY CLARK, 1799, North Carolina; b. 1776, NC; d. Abt. 1860, Clay Co KY.
What do you know about the William Clark born 1740? When did he come to
America? We have been researching some Clarks that came to NC before it was a
state and I would be interested in more info on these Clarks. Thanks. AR in
Tulsa, OK
We just had a 37 marker test for our Clark family, descended from William
Clark, born abt 1740, NC. William and his wife, Leah Johnson, removed to TN
then on to Estill Co KY.
There are no matches. What a disappointment.
Recent Development
We recently found Fanny CLARK, born 1786 on 1820 Clay Co KY census married
to Jonathan FOX, living next to David CLARK, born 1758 and adjacent to David
is his father, William, born abt 1740.
What is interesting is that David, born 1758 married Polly FOX in 1815, Clay
Co KY.
If anyone here has Clay Co KY Clark family, please contact me. Thank you.

"1796: 5 November 1796, the home of Noah and Crissie Ann ROSS CLARK
burned. Two of their children, names not given, perished in the
flames. (From Revolutionary War Pension Claim R. 2007 1/2 as given by
Noah CLARK on 1 September 1841" as extracted by E.W. MORGAN, Acting
Commissioner, Rev & 1812 Wars Section in a letter to R.D. FINK, 89
St. Marks Avenue, Brooklyn, NY on September 18, 1928)
Noah CLARK was born in Morris County, NJ. Crissie Ann was born in
Somerset Co, PA. They lived in Somerset County, PA at the time of the
fire.
Question: Is there a newspaper report or official report of this
tragic event? Evidently no newspaper in the area at that time but
the neighboring counties often reported such things. York Co? German
language newspapers/periodicals? What about funeral or death notices?
Fanny CLARK was born abt 1786. She died in Clay Co KY with her husband,
Jonathan FOX, born abt 1786, left Clay Co KY for Indiana and remarried.
Fanny and Jonathan lived close to William CLARK, born 1740 and David,
William's son, born abt 1758.
If anyone has information about Fanny, I will appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you.

I am searching for anything on the D Sherman Clark family. He had a
brother's Samuel and Joe Clark and his father was Tom Clark. Sherman
was born in Mogan county 1868. He mariied my gr. grandmother Chelsey (Chell)
Raley. They had three children who were Arthur Clark, Delia Clark Powell, (my
grandmother) and Gertrude (Gert) Clark Flowers.
He went to the field to work one day and didn't come back home when the
children were small.
His sister told my gr. aunt that he had remarried in Tn. Later they heard
that his wife had died and he moved to Texas to be near where his brother Samuel
lived.
His sister told my Gr. aunt not to try to contact him that he didn't want
anything to do with them. I bet he didn't. He was a bigamist and my grandfather
Powell was a lawyer. LOL
He was suppse to have had children by the woman in Tn. Her husband died and
she had children and married Sherman who was still married to my grandmother.
Of course, she probably didn't know that.
I hope someone can help me connect to this family. He had other siblins.
and I think his father was married about three times.

My Brick wall:
Miller CLARK born about 1824 not sure where. Have found a Miller Clark in Butler County, Ohio in 1820 census. ( I know this is not my Miller because he wasn"t born yet) I also have found where someone listed him as being born in Harrison, Ohio. Not sure if it was the County or the City. There is a Harrison County in the northeast part of Ohio and there is a Harrison city in the south west section (either in or near) Butler County, Ohio.
Miller married Ermine B. SANDY in 1850 in Franklin County, Ohio. July 7th, 1850.
They had 5 children:
George
Marion Wallace b.1852
John
James
Albert
Clara B.
Most of this family ended up in Lafayette and West Jefferson, Madison county, Ohio and Camp Chase which became Rome then New Rome, Franklin County, Ohio.
I am not sure which one had the middle name of Hatfield but I think it was James and John's middle initial was J. It could be the other way around. Reason being John was listed as living with Marion and his wife Lovina (HORR) on the 1880 census. There is a record of Marion and "J. J." CLARK purchasing cemetery plots in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in West Jefferson, Ohio.
Miller was supposed to have died in 1865 during a battle near Atlanta, Georgia. He was supposed to be listed in the 118th Infantry from Ohio, but they have no record of him. (I got this from the pension application that Ermine applied for but was denied because she married Thomas Butler (not sure when or where). Thomas had passed away before she applied for the pension. In the 1880 census Ermine Bulter was listed as head of household with her son, George, living with her.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Cathy Clark Kennard

Cheers Anne. Dates are long before the data I have on our CLARKEs, although
they are in near-by Norfolk. Our CLARKs are in Devon and Scotland. Also
have no idea if any came over to North America.
Sorry for the tardiness of my response. Sunday past, we returned from a
fortnight's holiday to the Maritimes.
Many thanks again.
