Hello,
I recently found out that there were CLARK or CLARKE families living in
Stonington, CT, possibly in the early 1800's. And, I was wondering if
anyone knows what years they did live there !
I have a "brick wall," James CLARK / E, who was in Little Compton, RI,
just before he married in nearby Westport, MA, in 1829. In 1836, James
and Rhoda CLARK had a daughter, Mary Anna, in Westport, MA. During the
1840's, James somehow left the family; he was not mentioned with the
family in the 1850 census. (There is no indication he died there.)
Mrs. Rhoda (MANCHESTER) (LAVARE) CLARK had 3 children from her first
marriage to Epaphroditus LAVARE, including a daughter, Lavinia, who decided
to get married in Stonington, CT, around 1848. Her husband was from New
Bedford, MA. In 1856, Mary Anna CLARK reportedly married in Stonington,
CT. Her husband was from Killingly, CT. I have always been curious
why these 2 half-sisters decided to get married in Stonington, and wondered
whether they had family there !
When I found out a couple weeks ago that there were CLARK / E families
buried in Stonington, it made me curious whether James CLARK had left his
wife in Westport, MA, and moved to Stonington, CT ! And, possibly his
daughter and step-daughter had gone down there to visit him.
Thank you for your time.
Betty (near Lowell, MA)
* There is a possibility that James CLARK got on a ship in New Bedford, MA,
in 1845 and headed out for a 4-year voyage - but deserting ship in Australia
!
(Rhoda was born in 1800 in Westport, MA, so I am guessing that James was
born between 1790 and 1800.)
Hello List ! I'm trying to find my Great Aunt's Husband. Ex-husband that is.
Bessie C. Dickerson went from Wayne County, Tennessee, to Pottawatomie
County, Oklahoma in the mid 1890's. She was the daughter of William Joseph Dickerson and Nora Morgan Dickerson, both of TN. Bessie married a man
with the last name of "Clark". And his last name is all we know. I have
found there were alot of Clarks in Pottawatomie County during that time.
Bessie died at the age of 34 during the great flu epidemic. She died in 1920.
Bessie had two brothers, Kenneth and Joseph, and one sister, Maurine Dickerson.
I've heard that Bessie was a school teacher. I'd appreciate any info at all.
I do have several photographs of Bess. Hope someone knows something :)

Looking for parents of David clark born ohio 1817 and siblings He was married to a Rachael Biggart booker in april 1846 in franklin county ohio divorced april 1879 was living with a wesly Davis family in 1880 census franklin county pleasant twp this is the last record i have of him Would like help with
!. parents
2.siblings
3.date of death and place of burial
4. civil war record ??????? David would have been around 45 in 1862
Thanks for any help Paul Jacobs pjacobs2(a)verizon.net
Where to begin
I first saw David Clark's name on my ggrandfather's death cert. and his wife rachael Biggart Booker Clark . They were in the franklin county census inpleasant twp ohio in 1850 1860,1870, in the 1880 census rachel was in Madison county fairfield twp with daughter Matilida and david was in 1880 census in franklin county pleasant twp living with a Wesly Davis family as a labor . David and Rachael got a devorice in april 1879 and she got every thing farmand money
they were married in franklin county, ohio November 1,1846 AND devoriced april 1879
they had 3 children John b aug 27 1847 Matilida( who married a David Busick3 children fletcher, Lulu, frona died 1904 ) and a Washington who died 1 or 2 years old
Rachael died april 1885 in madison county ,lilly chapel and is buried in the Biggart cemetery about 2 miles south of georgeville Her 2 sons James and george Booker and her son washington is buried there too as well as her parents and 1 sister Charlotte Biggart Kerr and a brother and his wife. But there is no david Clark buried there that i can see.
The Ohio state library gave me a name of a david clark buried in Myrtle hill cemetery in liverpool twp medina county
but i have since figured out that that is not my david clark although they were about the same age butt on was living in liverpool twp Medina county
in june 1880 and my david was in franklin county pleasant twp in july 1880 census
All the census records i saw David was in franklin county pleasant twp Ohio and the census records say he was born in ohio . in 1850 census he was 33 so that makes he was born 1817 and rachael was 38 in 1850 census and every year after that they lied about their age or couldn't remember
Their son John Clark married a Malinda Gilliland jan 9 1873 and they are buried in grove cementery kenton ohio but no david there . I have and uncle John Clark who is 93 and he don't know any thing about David clark and very little about his grandfather John clark . My grandmother Clark (Catherine Cullen clark wife of Warner David clark whoi was son of John Clark ) was a very strick cathlic and david's son john was not and there were vvvvery hard feelings so her children was not told about there grand parents and espically after David and Rachael go devoriced
So i think that david ended up in a county home or poor house and the county had to burie him but i can't find a record of death or burial and i have asked the cemetery in georgeville and they have no record
I am also including the artical from the Madison county history about Rachael biggart booker clark .
I have the obit for Margaret A. booker Fitzgerald and it just mentions her mother Rachael and no other family member and her brothers george and James booker were dead long time before she died in 1901 i think
I don't know what else i can tell you . Oh last year i went to the county office and i found the devorice recore of David and rachael clar on a computer down in a little room in basement . I had asked them before to find the record but they couldn't find it . but maybe i was ablr to see it when they could not .

Dear Joe,
In your vast reservoir of data, do you happen to have any information on the
occupations of any of my CLARK(E) ancestors from Rhode Island?
In one very oblique reference to my 4XGGFather, Elisha CLARKE (b. 1738 North
Kingstown, Washington Co. RI d. abt 1784/5 probably in R.I. - will probated
1785 in North Kingstown) he was found on a list of American Silversmiths,
but I have not found any other information to confirm that. The census data
back then didn't include occupations. This Elisha was married to Desire
GARDINER and went to Nova Scotia then New Brunswick at the end of the Amer.
Rev. I found a land transaction in Nova Scotia in Sept. 1783 where Elisha
stated that he was a yeoman living in Newport Landing, Nova Scotia. He and
his brother Joseph owned land there from about 1761 but neither of them ever
lived there, until Elisha went at the end of the Revolution.
If you do not have this type of info, could you perhaps give me some
guidance as to what records may be useful for me to search?
Kindest regards,
Anne Clark-Stewart
