Hello Joy, and others: (Did you already receive this msg? It keeps coming up in my draft/outbox). Sorry if dupes.
Welcome. Sorry I do not have a Charlotte Clark , off hand, that I know of; however, I do have Clarks who were in Scotland, and Ontario, Canada before going to MA and RI area USA. I would be interested in knowing the names of Charlotte's spouse and children and their locations if known. My Great big brick wall is at my Great-grandfather's level: Alexander Clark, b:ca 1844 Scotland; emigrated at some time prior to 1871 to Lincoln Co. Ontario, Canada. I have NO information on his Parents, ancestors, Siblings and very little on his descendants. Thus, I check out anyone who was in Ontario particularly...and their movements.
My Alexander CLARK, I assume, married Mary BOYD about 1871. No marriage record found. They had a daughter, Mary CLARK, b: 10 Oct 1872 in Grantham, Lincoln County, Ontario, Canada. (I believe the BOYDs...John BOYD & Mary GUTHRIE emigrated from Paisley, Renfrew, Scot between January 1868 and June 1870, (IAW the birth places of several children. ) Mary Boyd was the eldest of the children. Also, Mary Boyd b: 28 Oct 1850, Middle Paisley, Renfrew, Scot.and Alexander Clark, b:ca 1844, Scot, had a son, William Alexander CLARK, b: Feb 1877, in Merritton, Lincoln Co. Ontario, Canada. NO Birth record . However, I have my Grandfather's Naturalization Papers which name his Parents as Alexander Clark and Mary Boyd.
Alexander Clark and Mary Boyd emigrated from Ontario, Canada , about 1879 and appear on the 1880 MASS Census in Attleborough, Bristol Co. MA. with 3 children in household. Mary, 7 yr; Wm,4 yr, (Grandfather) and one listed as Other...John CLARK,1 yr. born in Canada of Scots Parentage. (Still do not know who he is or how related.) (On my Grandfather's Naturalization Papers, it indicates that he emigrated from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada to NY via New York Central Railway on 1 April 1879. (Assume with his Parents and/or the Boyds. )
John BOYD & Mary GUTHRIE appeared on the 1880 RI Census, in Lincoln, Providence Co. RI with four children (Mary NOT one of them.) ( William, b:16 Aug 1853, Abbey, Paisley, Renfrew,Scot.; Archibald b:ca 22 Oct 1855Abbey, Paisley,Renfrew; John b:19 Apr 1860;Abbey (Paisley, Renfrew & Margaret Fairbairn BOYD., b: ca 1866.) 2 or 3 other children were previously deceased. ( including an Alexander ,(perhaps b: ca 28 July 1858 1 male Boyd (perhaps a first James, b:18 DEC 1862, Abbey Paisley, Renfrew; and a 2nd ? James Boyd. born last in Ontario, Canada and died.) Only further information...on Boyds...I have the death certificates of these three Boyd Brothers who are buried in the Mashausuck (sp?)Cemetery in Central Falls, RI. And, it was stated by someone else, that John Boyd, the Father is buried there also and that he died on 3 September 1899 in RI. Apparently some records at this Cemetery were burned in a fire of 1899!! So far, I have no information on the deaths or other!
locations of all the women in this family and nothing more on any other Clark children born in MA or RI. Other names mentioned in my search were two informants from the Boyd Boys Death Certificates: John ADAMS or rel; and Janet WILSON. I have more on my Grandfather's marriage and Son: my Dad etc in MA and CT.
Can you identify or connect with any of these names and provide me with the data on Charlotte Clark? Thank you in advance. Hope this helps all of us.

Dear Joe,
Good to hear from you again.

> Have you discarded the idea that Rebecca LAND was the name of the wife of
> Jabez CLARK(E) in favor of the name Rebecca BURNEY?
Yes, indeed. She is Rebecca BURNEY, daughter of Abigail LAND and William
BURNEY, born March 11, 1780 in New York and baptized at Trinity Church. Her
sponsors were her parents and Phoebe LAND, her grandmother.
> Have you been able to verify either name either through death or grave

In the book, "Loyalist Ancestors - Some families of the Hamilton Area" by
the Hamilton Branch United Empire Loyalists' Association of Canada,
published 1980 by Pro Familia Genealogical Services, Toronto, Ont., I have
the following information on the children of Robert LAND (1736-1818) who in
Virginia 1756 married Phoebe SCOTT(1733-1836):
Abigail (1757-1826) marr. 1) William BIRNEY 2) Isaiah McCARTER
John ( 1758-1838) marr. Lillie SKINNER
Abel ( 1760-1815) marr. Elizabeth HUGHSON
Gagetown Anglican Church Records - Gagetown, Queens Co., NB
p.11 July 28, 1790 - Wickham
baptized, Elizabeth, an adult, wife of Abel LAND
baptized Isaac son of Abel and Elizabeth LAND
p.14 Feb. 12, 1792 - Long Island
baptized Elisabeth, daughter of Abel adn Elisabeth LAND
Phoebe (1761-1807) marr. Clement LUCAS in NB
Gagetown Anglican Church Records - GAgetown, Queens Co., NB
p7. Feb 25, 1788 - Gagetown
baptized Thomas Morris LUCAS, son of Clement and Phebe LUCAS
p9. Jan 11, 1789 - Gagetown
baptized Robert son of Clement LUCAS
p11. June 6, 1790 - Hampstead
baptized Mary, daughter of Clement and Phebe LUCAS
p.14 April 8, 1792 - Gagetown
married Clement LEWCAS and Phebe LAND ( are the above children of these
two or Celment LUCAS Sr., father of the CLEMENT who married Phebe LAND?)
Rebecca (1764-1816) marr. Nathaniel HUGHSON
William (??)
Robert (1772-1867) marr. Hannah HORNING in Ont.
Ephraim ( 1774-1841) marr. Mary CHISHOLM

> I do have a marriage record of Church Records, St John Anglican Church of

> Jabez CLARKE. I don't know if that document listed the ages at their marriage
but if it did, then we could say for sure if he were the Rhode Island
Jabez.
>
The marriage record is correct. They did not list anything other than the
names of the people who were married.
We can confirm that they were from Rhode Island based on a legal document
transferring power of attorney from Jabez, Agibail CLARK COREY, Gardiner,
Benjamin and Isaac to Elisha CLARK of HAMPSTEAD, NB so he could sell and
dispose of his father's property in Newport Landing, Nova Scotia.
> Do any of their kids records list their parents and where they were born
> and possibly the ages of the parents at the time of the kids births?
>
No birth or baptism records exist for this CLARK family, as they were
staunch Baptists who were objecting to the law that only Catholics and
Anglicans could perform religious ceremonies. They only married in the
Anglican Church for legal reasons.
Hence, no baptisms or burials for this line of CLARKs in NB. The family
buried their relatives in graves on the family farms and marked the spots
with wooden crosses which have long since disappeared.
> Let me know what you think..
So, these CLARKs were also LOYALISTS. The new data I uncovered this Fall
goes as follows:
Elisha CLARK (b. 1738 RI) marr. Desire GARDINER in RI April 10, 1763 (
NEHGS Vital Stats)
Their Children are:
Gardiner marr. Ruth SLOCUM dau. Ebenezer SLOCUM UE on Jan 20, 1789 in
Waterborough Parish, Queens Co, NB. ( records of Anglican Church Gagetown)
Gardiner and Ruth return to RI abt 1792 and appear on 1800 census for
Kingstown, RI. with three children.
Abigail marr. Gideon COREY UE poss. in NY before arriving in Canada. They
settled in Gagetown area and about 1795 moved to New Canaan where they
raised a large family. Abigail is purported to have more descendants as
ministers, doctors, lawyers and politicians than any other woman in NB.
Benjamin does not appear to have married. He is buried in Central Hampstead
cemetery ( I have photo of his grave) and is listed as a native of Rhode
Island. He was very active in the Baptist Church acting as scribe and later
as an elder.
Elisha marr. Catherine SlIPP UE daughter of Leonard SLIP. They remained in
Hampstead. He is listed int he Queens' Co. Museum in Gagetown as a Loyalist
and the copy of the will in his file states "Elisha CLARKE - U.E.,
Hampstead." When Elisha applied for a land grant in 1814, he stated that he
had a wife, several children and an aged mother living with him. When his
will was probated, there was no mention of his mother
Isaac never married but stayed in New Brunswick.
Jabez marr. Rebecca BURNEY UE (grandaughter of Robert LAND UE). Rebecca's
mother, Abigail LAND BIRNEY stayed in the Gagetown area for a while and
married Isaiah McCarter, a friend of her brother. By 1824 Jabez and Rebecca
have 11 children and move to Hamilton, Ontario.
So, from this info, all of my 3rd GGf's siblings who married chose the
children of UE or actual UE's, supporting my case that Jabez was also a
LOYALIST.
I have more inof on the land that Elisha, father of Jabez, was granted in
Nova Scotia in 1761, which proves that although he was granted land, he
never lived there until 1783. He must have returned to RI shortly
thereafter, as he died about 1784 and his will was probated in RI in 1785.
More on that later.
Good night for now,
Anne

Hi fellow CLARK/CLARKE family researchers,
I am trying to find living descendants of Elisha CLARK born Apr. 9, 1802,
Hampstead, New Brunswick, Canada and died Nov. 29, 1867 in Kewanee,
Illinois. He was married on Jan 26, 1826 in Glanford, Ontario to Elizabeth
THOMAS who was born in Canada ( poss NB) on Nov 29, 1807 and died in
Kewanee, Ill. on Jan 3, 1860. Elisha and Elizabeth moved to Kewanee, Ill.
in 1855.
This Elisha CLARK is the eldest son of my 3rd great grandfather Jabez CLARK
(b. 1769 North Kingstown Rhode Island died 1845 Glanford, Ont) and Rebecca
BURNEY (b. Mar 9, 1781, New York, baptized Trinity Church NYC). A
descendant, Don L. CLARK and his wife Venice PETERSON wrote a detailed
family history, a copy of which was given to the Glanford Historical
Society. I would like to get in touch with Don and Venice or any of their
siblings to obtain more information on the family.
Elisha CLARK and Elizabeth THOMAS' children were all born in Glanford and
include:
Daniel b. 1826
Rebecca b. 1828
William b. 1828
John b. 1831
Edwin b. 18344
Nancy A. b. 1836
Walter b. 1838
Asa b. 1840
Rachael b. 1843
Mary b. 1846
Ezra B. b 1848
Emery b. 1850
One son, Ezra B. CLARK B. 1848, married Ella FERRIS in 1875. This family
then moved to Platte Co., Nebraska by 1880. They were in McCune Kansas by
1884 and later on moved to Carl Junction, Missouri and Mt. Ayre, Iowa. In
1902, they went back to Kansas by covered wagon and settled on a farm near
Erie. Their children were:
Ada b. 1877 d. 1881
Elmer G. b. 1879 Neb.
Fred L. b. 1884 Kansas
Maude R. b. 1887 Kansas
Clifford R. b. 1894 Iowa
Don L. CLARK is the son of Fred L. CLARK and his wife Elizabeth Mariah
PIATT. Don is the person I am seeking or any of his siblings who are Ava,
Katherine, Vera, Jack W., Nadine or Lyle.
If Don is no longer living, perhaps one of his children or nieces or nephews
could contact me.
Kindest regards,
Anne Clark-Stewart

My GG Grandfather was Isaac Amos CLARK, born 15 May 1834 in Delaware County, Ohio; died 08 Dec 1931 in Schuyler, Colfax County, Nebraska; married Emmerette GAGE 1869 in Elgin, Fayette County, Iowa? I believe Isacc's father to be Emery Clark. This is a major brick wall for me.
Does anyone have any Clarks that might connect to this family. I know nothing about Isaac's siblings, if any, nor do I know where his parents died.
Thanks in advance.
