Hello,
I have a GEORGE R. CLARK, born in CT. (no birth date). He died in 1873 in
Rochester, New York. Had at least one son, THOMAS MCDONAUGH CLARK, born in
1814.
GEO. R. CLARK, from his obituary, says he served in the war of 1812, and
named his son for his commander, THOMAS MCDONAUGH.
I haven't been able to find the name of his parents in CT.

I am searching for further information on the people named in the following
will:
DICKERSON, MARY, Book F, page 107
To HARRIET HODGE and SUSAN CAROLINE McCLANAHAN, daughters, wearing
apparel to be equally divided; to SUSAN CAROLINE EWING, granddaughter, female
slave and her increase; to ANN ELIZA SMITH, granddaughter, Negro woman and her
child and their increases, bed and furniture, silver teaspoons; to THOMAS M.
SMITH, son-in-law, what estate remains.
Written: 28 May 1836. Exec: THOMAS M. SMITH, GEORGE W. EWING. Wit:
WALTER JONES, AUGUSTINE BYRNE. Signature is written. Date of probate: 25 July
1836.
Source: "Abstracts of Wills & Settlements of Logan County, KY 1795-1838" p.
145.
George W. EWING (1808-1888) was the son of General Robert E. EWING and Jane
McLEAN. George was a lawyer who practiced in Logan Co, KY. He married Susan
Caroline (1818-1841) sometime before 1836, but I have found no marriage record.
The maiden name of Susan Caroline was supposedly MOSS, but I have no
positive proof of this either. George and Caroline had one son - Clay EWING. Clay
EWING married Elizabeth CARR and they had a daughter named Susan Moss EWING.
George and Susan Caroline EWING are buried in Old Red River Cemetery in
Adairville in Logan Co, KY. I would be very interested to know who were the parents
of Susan Caroline EWING. Was her mother the daughter of James CLARK and Mary
WRIGHT of Sumner Co, TN?
The Susan Caroline McCLANAHAN named in the will may have been the wife of
John Alexander McCLANAHAN who was the son of Thomas Marshall McCLANAHAN and Nancy
Ann GREEN of Simpson Co, KY. If so, this Susan Caroline was born 1808
possibly in Sumner Co, TN and died 1851 in Bowling Green, Fayette Co, IL. The
maiden name of Susan Caroline was supposedly CLARK, but I have found no marriage
record. Is this Susan Caroline the daughter of James CLARK and Mary WRIGHT of
Sumner Co, TN? James CLARK died 1808 in Sumner Co. leaving a will mentioning
wife Mary CLARK, son WRIGHT CLARK along with other unnamed children, brother
David CLARK, and money expected from Carolina. Executors were William ANDERSON
and Joseph HODGE. Joseph HODGE (1755-1822) was the son of John D. HODGE and
Agnes SHAW of NC.
Is Harriet HODGE, who is named in the will, the wife of William HODGE, Jr.?
William HODGE, Jr. was the son of the Presbyterian minister, William HODGE,
and his wife, Charity WHITE. Rev. William HODGE was a brother to Joseph HODGE.
William HODGE, Jr. married Harriet CLARK in 1812 in Sumner Co, TN. Was this
Harriet CLARK the daughter of James CLARK and Mary WRIGHT of Sumner Co? What
became of William HODGE, Jr. and wife Harriet? Who were their children?
Who was the wife of Thomas M. SMITH? Thomas M. SMITH is named in the will as
the son-in-law of Mary DICKERSON. Is Ann Eliza SMITH, granddaughter, (also
named in the will) the daughter of Thomas M. SMITH? What became of Ann Eliza?
If Mary DICKERSON of this will is the widow of James CLARK of Sumner Co, TN,
who was the DICKERSON husband of Mary? When and where did they marry? Who
were the WRIGHT parents of Mary?
Any help would be greatly appreciated in proving the identities and
relationships of the people named in the will of Mary DICKERSON of Logan Co, KY. I
have more info on the EWING and McCLANAHAN families if needed.
Thanks very much,
Robyn Collins

I am new to the list and my brick wall is ALANSON
CLARK. The only information that I have is that he
was the son of FREEMAN CLARK and SEREPTA HAVEN. He
was born about 1830 in Cortland Co., NY (probably in
Scott). He had brothers: FREEMAN, MELVIN, HENRY,
LEONARD, NELSON AND GEORGE. He also had sisters:
ANGELINE, BETSY and CELESTIA. They all lived in the
Allegany Co., NY area. He was married before 1855 to
JULIA. He was living in the Scio, Allegany Co., NY .
He was a Civil War Veteran. Before 1872 he was
married to SEREPTA SPICHT who was born in Ireland.
This marriage information was off from his son Freds
marriage license. SEREPTA and ALANSON had two known
children: FRED AND ANNA. Both are reported to have
been born in Cadiz, Ohio. FRED was born in 1872 and
ANNA was born in 1877. Both of the children returned
to Allegany Co., NY where they married and raised
their families. The last proof of ALANSON or SEREPTA
that I have is the birth of ANNA. ALANSON is my
gggrandfather. FRED is my ggrandfather. Any help
would be appreciated.
