Congratulations, Kathie on the new list for the
regions!
How close are we to having one list for every state
<vbg>? Seems like we are close. hehe
I would suggest that researchers utilize the new
regional lists to supplement what they will find
on the "main" lists. But *please* do not abandon
the "main" lists and only post to the regional lists.
It is possible that your cousins may join the list
shortly after you decide to go regional and miss you
all together as they may not know what region to
find you!
In order to best fill in your family puzzles, be sure
to post to all the Clark resources you can, with some
frequency and remember to keep the lists apprised with
your updated information.
For those of you interested in Genetic Genealogy, don't
forget to join and post to the Clark-DNA-L! This list
has really gotten off to a good start. :)
Happy Trails,
Lauren

I have been trying for years to find out what happened to my great uncle,
CHARLES CLARK b. OH 1864
He was the son of HENRY CLARK of OH 1832-1912 and wife Emily (Emilene)
Miller Clark b. OH 1831
The 1880 OH census shows Charles Clark age 15 at home working on the farm
of his father,
the location was Franklin Co. OH, actually, the farm was located near Grove
City, Ohio.
HENRY CLARK was the son of JOHN CLARK of OH 1798-1860 and wife, Carlina
Fisher
JOHN CLARK was the son of Jedidiah CLARK 1726-1800
and Jedidiah was the son of Ebenezer CLARK of MA 1682-1781
Ebenezer was the son of JOHN CLARK 1651-1704 and Mary Strong
That John Clark was the son of William Clark b. Eng 1609
Getting back to CHARLES CLARK of Franklin Co. OH b. 1864 -
The last trace that I have of him is a family picture take about 1898
or1899,
yet have been unable to find him in the 1900 census.
The question arises, did he die prior to the 1900 census?
If so, was he buried at Greenlawn Cemetery of Columbus, where
several family members are located?
Since I now live 1000 miles away, could a kind person
check this out an ascertain if he was buried at Greenlawn?
CHARLES CLARK b. 1864 in OH date of death - possibly late 1890s
His parents were HENRY CLARK and EMILY Miller CLARK
Any information appreciated.

Finally!! *Thank you* to the list administrators for opening the
CLARK-NEWENG list. My CLARKs are from England, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Orleans
Co., VT. I will post *some* of my Descendants of Cephas CLARK here as one
last-ditch effort but will unsubscribe to this list and will go to the New
England list in the future (I can always do an Archive Search of the CLARK list
later, if need be, for Iowa and Illinois relatives).
I descend from Sophia Lucretia CLARK and Francis Granger DREW (HOOVER
ancestors). Ancestor Sources are secondary; primary source additions and corrections
welcome.
BTW, I have a copy of a 1939 CLARK-KING and Allied Families Association
Reunion invitation held at the home of Dr. Caleb CLARK of Shadow Lake, VT, if
anyone is interested. I will post the text on the New England list at a later
date. (preparing today for a week-long trip out of town). Over 50% of the names
listed on the invitation can be found on another "cousin's" page: <A HREF="http://www.accessgenealogy.com/surnames/clark/">Genealogy

Dear Dick:
Happy to have my computer back from the shop, hooked up
and wading through over 500 messages, I will add my
3 cents to this discussion. ;)
With a name as widespread and unrelated as Clark, and its
varients, it can be helpful to have regional lists. Those
concentrating in those areas now have more places to find
a connection. One would hope that listers would continue
to post to the Clark list as well as the new regional
lists.
Not all are enamored with the thought of combining the
Clark and Clarke lists. Rootsweb does not allow
the closing of lists, either -- so there is not only
the ClarkE list but also remains the Clark list. There
are many that only subscribe to the Clark list as they
"have no Clark-Es" to research. Some have been quite
vociforous on this point saying, among other things, that
they do not want to wade through all the ClarkE posts
to find their Clark posts.
If one looks back in the archives to my posts re the origins
and the etymology of the Clark surname, one will have a better
understanding of why some prefer to have more choice as to
where to post their Clark queries. Consider the name is
a job name and has many separate lines, unrelated, one to the
other, as well as differing geographic origins.
Looking at the origins of the names, it seems to point to
LeClerk/LeClerc being the older version of the name, then
Clark and later varient being Clarke. Clarke seems to have
a predominantly English origin, while Clark enjoys an Irish
and Scottish origin. Posts to the surname boards would
point to Clark as being a more actively searched varient
than Clarke. Some would argue they are separate names.
Consider, if you will, the name Shoemaker. It surely is the
same name as Schoemacher. However, even though they have the
same root -- being job names -- they have separate origins
and researchers will be looking to different geographic locations
when researching. Would one expect all the Shoemakers to only
post to the Schoemacher list? No. And so it goes... Rootsweb
approves the varient spelling and location lists. If you check
the listings at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/c/clark.html
you will find quite a few. However, if you look at the listing
for the Clarke surname, you will only find one list listed:
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/c/clarke.html
Congratulations, Cindy on your new list!

Lauren

Dear Listers,
I am beginning to write a story about the Fifth Army in WWII, and that
involves Gen. Mark Wayne Clark. It also involves one of his officers, a
descendant of the early Clark family in VA. Perhaps they were related.
Does anyone know the ancestry of Gen. Mark Wayne Clark?
Tom
Robert,
Do you have an Ambrose C. Clark , b. 1853/54 in MO in your list of ancestors?
I only ask, because of the similiar names in my Clark family, ie: letty, George and the MO connections.
Long shot I know, but!!!!
Thank you, alice
