Hello Friends,
My Great Grandmother Pauline CLARK STULGIN, born November 07, 1905 in
Bandana, Ballard County, KY, died tonight. She was the daughter of
Daniel Hiram CLARK, born in Obion Co., TN and Mattie Elizabeth SANDERS,
born in Gibson Co., TN. She married John Wesley HILL in Bogota, Dyer
Co., TN. I hope that those who remember her or remember folks in her
line will write and say hello. I remember her as a vivacious woman who,
in her latter years, drove semi-trucks and played pool! Thanks to
everyone who helped me sort out her family tree.
Warmest,
Shelley

I'm looking for parents, siblings of Abel Clark, bn 1792 in Washington Co
(now Greene Co), PA, USA.
He and a brother (according to Knox Co, OH history)traveled from PA to
Columbiana Co about 1810 or so. I found him listed in the 1820 Census for
Columbiana Co, but there are several other Clarks that could be his brother
and no indication as to which... Abel later moved to Knox Co, OH where he
raised his family and later died.
I would like to find out who was his brother and possibly parents? There
are several families of Clarks listed in PA as well.... very hard to narrow
down.
As far as I know, the last name has always been Clark - no "e" on the end...
There has been some family story of being related to Clark of Lewis and
Clark. As we all know, that one is hard to pin down as well.
Here is Abel's family....

I am looking for a list of descendants for Joel CLARK(E) & wife,
Susannah RICHARDSON.
Joel was b. 10 Oct 1767, CT. He d. 8 Nov 1847, Henrietta, Monroe Co., NY.
He and his wife are bur. in Mt. Hope Cem., Henrietta, NY.
Joel is listed as a "Musician" in the DAR Patriot Rolls.
Thank you.
Best Regards,

Walnut Creek, California
I mistakenly said Warren Co., when my branch went to Lawrence Co., TN;
neighbouring on Lauderdale Co., AL. They settled on Second Creek, which is
in both counties.
Other Johnstons went to Warren Co., TN.
Now, my Sarah Jane Clark was born in 1774, NC, and died 6 June 1847, in
Lawrence Co., TN. She is buried at St. Truitt's Churchyard, in Lawrence Co.
John Johnston was born in NC, in 1779. He went on to Madison Co., AR with
his sons and other families, along the "Trail of Tears." He went back to
Lawrence Co., TN to die and was buried also at St. Truitt's.
John and Sarah were married, in Orange Co., NC, in 1797. Their oldest son,
John Clark Johnston, was born their in 1798. They went on then to TN.
I do not know anything, yet, about the King and Carter families, but know
they do tie.
Any ideas?
Jerry Johnston
Who is suspicious now that Sarah Jane may have been a daughter of James
Clark, son of Richard Clarke. ???

Evening Everyone,
I thought some of you might like to give this site a try.
It is called Interment.net Cemetery Inscription Library and they say they
have over 3 million burial records in almost 7,000 different cemeteries.
The address is:

Hope some of you find something helpful - take care - Emma
Greetings Clark(e) Researchers:
Yesterday I was looking through some old (2001) searchs and found a search from a Bob Crosley, email kojack12(a)hotmail.com, looking for info on decendents of Eli Clark born about 1855 in Indiana (Greene, Lawrence or Davies county) He had several searches over several months but nothing lately. I am a decendent of Eli Clark.
I sent him an e-mail but no response. It seems most people do not keep e-mail addresses for over a few months, so I am wanting to know if any of you know Bob Crosley and how I may contact him. (or if you have any info on Eli Clark of Greene Co. Indiana)
Thanks.

Seeking information regarding REVEREND CLARK, a minister/bishop of the
Methodist Episcopal Church in IL, IA, and KS between 1860 and 1900.
His given name was probably WILLIAM or WILLIS. His parents were
probably from NY and he might have been born in NY. He probably died in
IA or IL, possibly Chicago.
He might have been involved with the Underground Railroad.
The name of the Church was later changed to United Methodist.
Thank you for any information or suggestions about where to search.
Lora
HI Everyone,
I am copying this message for the list. It came to me by mistake and was
really meant to go to the list as it was in response to Tom's message.
Just an FYI - when you see a message on the list and you want to respond to
the whole list you will probably need to type in the address -
Clark-L(a)rootsweb.com. Otherwise your response will only go to the
individual. So depending on what you want to do you might wish to check your
"to" field when you respond..... <g>.
Thanks and here is the message - take care - Emma

Tom have you ever heaard of a Arminta Clarkston/Clark sometimes, that
married a Charles W Pennington Lee Co VA

Dear Listers,
Thank you for the replies to my question about the two Clarke families. I
did join the Clarke List. Here is what I said:
Dear Listers,
I am descended from two separate Clark families in VA and would like more
info on them.
The first is easy: An aunt of William Clark of the L&C expedition, Lucy
Clark, married Torquil McLeod and produced Ann Clarke McLeod. Lucy died and
Torquil took off for distant places, never to be heard from again. As for
the daughter, "Married about 1768 & Moved to Fairhope in KY in 1780. She
was niece and ward of John Clark. She was actually raised by her
grandmother Eliz. Wilson Clark." (The Marshalls were that family of VA who
produced Chief Justice John Marshall.)
The second Clark family is not so easy. William Clark(e) m. Ann James about
1736 and produced James Clark who married Mary Marsten. They produced Lucy
Clark who married Henry Sparks (possibly) and they produced Lucy Sparks who
married Delville Walker in Owen Co., KY. Their son was James M. Walker who
was murdered by Bill Smoot of the KKK in 1874. James was my GGF. (As a side
light, tonight I am to get a call from a descendant of Bill Smoot.)
I have a document that says the two VA Clarke families called each other
"cousin". But it does not say why.
It just so happens that the Rogers family name is mixed up in both Clarke
families. Only a masochist would try to figure out the relationships
between the Rogers and the Clarks.

Hello Tom,
As far as I know there is not yet a state list for Virginia for Clark/Clarke
folks. However, you can certainly request one via Rootsweb and admin it
yourself. There are several list admins on this list and any of them would
be happy to help you get started as a list admin.
To find out which lists do exist you can go to this URL:
<A HREF="http://lists.rootsweb.com/">RootsWeb: Genealogy Mailing Lists</A>
or
http://lists.rootsweb.com/
Click on the "C" to find lists beginning with the letter C.
Then click on "Clark" to find the lists beginning with the word "Clark".
Hope this helps a bit - take care - Emma
Hi folks,
Just a note to let you know about the CLARKE-L archive & search engine...
let's search for "Virginia Clarks"
on the CLARKE-L we've had a Roll Call this month,
out of 177 messages for April, a search for Virginia = 16 matches
there's two ways to do it - -
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/CLARKE
click on April 2003
use your browser's Edit-Find-Find on this page- enter VA first = 11 matches
then restart from the top and enter Virginia = 5 matches
and that is just for April 2003 !
of course, you can always do a list search and let RW do it-
http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=CLARKE
Query: Virginia
2003 - Matching Record Count: 41 (Total Database Records: 510)
2002 - Matching Record Count: 124 (Total Database Records: 2312)
2001 - Matching Record Count: 209 (Total Database Records: 3023)
2000 - Matching Record Count: 105 (Total Database Records: 1179)
1999 - Matching Record Count: 104 (Total Database Records: 2034)
1998 - Matching Record Count: 144 (Total Database Records: 2336)
1997 - Matching Record Count: 89 (Total Database Records: 1724)
1996 - Matching Record Count: 21 (Total Database Records: 451)
I did not Query VA as the search will not do case sensitive and
would include all words with -va- in it.
CLARKE-L Archives - it's not just for the "E" - - it's for Clarke _and_ Clark!
(by the way, the numbers below are often less than the actual -
due to archiver problems at times - the numbers above are actual Tot.Db.Rec.)

HI Everyone,
Martha Isabel (Mattie) Clark was born 19 Nov 1867 in Texas. She was the
daughter of John Thomas Clark and Charity Ann Hightower.
On 14 Sept. 1884 she married John F. P. Hale. I do not know where they were
married but based on census records their 1st child says she was born in NM.
Martha Isabel and John Hale had the following children:
Charity - 1886
William - 1887
John - 1889
Mary - 1890
Lee - 1892
Annie - 1894
James - 1895
Harry - 1899
Have found this family in the 1900 census of Sierra Co., NM but lose them
after that. Would love to connect with anyone working on these folks.
Thanks - Emma
I second that motion. I am a member of over 50 different genealogy
lists/groups between rootsweb and yahoo, most of which I receive in the
digest mode due to the traffic on them. Without the list/group name included
in the Subject, I quite often delete messages without even thinking that they
may be from one of them. Also I don't have the time to check the message
boards, so I too would appreciate the message board being reconnected to the
list.
