Here is the one brick wall that I have been seeking the answer for - many
years!!
Charles Clark - b. late 1864 or early 1865 in Franklin County, Ohio
father was Henry Clark OH 1832-1912
mother was Emily (Emilene) Miller OH 1836-1922
had sisters: Laura Jane 1855-1899 m. Dexter G White in Grove City Ohio
in 1876
Isadora 1858-ca 1934 m. Archibald Kenefeck
Mary 1861-1897 m Shade Walton lived south of Grove
City
1880 census shows Charles as a 15 year old at home on his father's farm in
Jackson Twp, Franklin Co. OH
The last I have on Charles is a family group picture taken
after sister Mary had died in 1897, but sister Laura Jane had not yet died
in 1899.
Charles Clark does not show up in the 1900 census report,
nor have I been able to find any reference to him thereafter.
Can anyone offer any help??

1 - David Clark b. 1734/37 m. Sarah (Winans) Scudder daughter of Johnathan
Winans and Susanna Mills
2. Isaac Clark b. 1780 m 1, Lydia Zeliff 2, Mrs.Sarah (Stout)
Clark. Sarah's maiden name is Royal - my line descends from his
marriage
to Lydia.
I have completed this line and, while I was in the process of entering
sources for the other children of David Clark I reread all of the wills and
found some information that is perplexing. It is regarding David Clark
Sr's will that was written on 2 Apr 1779 and proved 15 Apr 1810. This
will states his son David Clark b. 1776 (married to Sarah Winans) was
deceased when the will was written. All other records state that David
Clark Jr. died 6 Jan 1847, Sangamon Co., Illinois.
He leaves the whole of his moveable estate and green corn now on the ground
to wife Sarah. Matthias received the whole of his lands and fast estate.
He directs Matthias to pay unto the two grand children of his son David
Clark diseased viz David and Sarah Clark; the sum of one hundred pounds
proc. to be equally divided between them two and to be paid to them when
they arrive at the age of twenty one years. He also directs Matthias to pay
unto his beloved Grand Daughter Sarah Badgly, youngest daughter of my
daughter, Sarah Badgley, diseased the sum of forty pounds proc. to be paid
to her at the age of twenty one years -- He also gives and bequeaths unto
his son Joshua Clark if ever he should return, the sum of ten
shillings. He appoints his "beloved" brother in law, Robert Clark and son
Matthias, executors.
William Clark, Aaron Woodruff and John Scudder witnessed the will in the
presence of the Testator -- 16 Apr 1810 -- Signed William Clark
In the Letters of administration; Thomas T. Kinner was surrogate of the
County of Essex to David Clark. Brother in law, Robert Clark, appears as
Robert Price ( perhaps he was married to David's sister?)
Matthias, and another son Johnathan were Sarah's from her previous marriage
to Jacob Scudder.
David Clark's children with Sarah, went on to Ohio and then to Illinois
- he didn't mention them in his will.
Can anyone shed any light on the Death of David Clark, Jr. -- why his
father's will notes that he is deceased and the majority of us believe that
he died in 1847?
.
I have had this biography from Beers History of Miami County Ohio 1880 in
my possession for some time
and thought that I would share it with the list.
D.C. Gideon, physician and surgeon, Troy, Miami Co., Ohio. A short
genealogy will be first in order. Alfred L Gideon was born in 1826.
Elizabeth Clark Gideon, December 15, 1820; their only child, David C.
Gideon,, born November 27, 1848.
Jacob Row was born in 1810, and his wife, Sarah Bost, in 1811; they were
parents of John, George, Jacob, Mary, Carrie, Lydia and Sarah.
D.C. Gideon and Sarah Row were married in 1868; their sons were born --
Alfred L. June 4, 1868, and Clark McKenzie April 6, 1873.
Dr. Gideon's grandfather, Rev. David Clark married Miss Sally Winans,
Daughter of Samuel and Sally Winans in 1806. They emigrated to Miami
County from New Jersey in 1809; he had previously been here and purchased
land, coming from Kentucky, in 1804; in 1805 he burned and delivered brick
for the first brick house built in Cincinnati; he was one of the pioneer
Methodist ministers in this county; they were parents of Winans, John,
Carman, Sally H. and Elizabeth Clark; his father, David Clark, Sr. was a
native of Scotland Rev. David Clark was originally the owner of the land
Tippecanoe is now built upon, donation the lot for the Hyattsville M.E.
Church; he sold his possessions to Robert Evans in 1830, and emigrated to
Sangamon County, Illinois; for forty years he was an ordained minister;
D.C. Gideon began the study of medicine in 1875 and graduated at the
Eclectic Medical Institute of Cincinnati, Ohio in Feb. 1873; he formed a
partnership with his preceptor, Dr. John Clark; during his stay in Danvers,
McLean Co., Illinois. Dr. Gideon was editor and proprietor of the Danvers
Independent, one of the spiciest, local papers in the state; he emigrated
East instead of West, March 1, 1880, and settled in Troy, the home of his
Ancestry.
I have never fully accepted the theory that David Clark Sr. was the
descendant of Richard Clark since I was never able to prove this through
wills or any other reliable means. I have in my possession family records
that were compiled by Robert Clark son of David Ward Clark and Hannah
Stout. - David Ward Clarks parents were John Winans Clark and Ann
(Nancy) Isgrig these records state that J. D. Cox guessed that David
Clarks father was Jonathan since this family lived in the same
locality. These records are handwritten, in fragile condition and were
given to me by my grandmother, Sylvia Beatrice (Clark) Estes.
I dont know if the above biography will shed any light on Davids ancestry
but hopefully it will inspire a lively discussion, and more research.
Does anyone have an AMOS CLARK and ALFRED CLARK born in PA in 1840s? Would
sure like to find these brothers!! They keep moving around, but in 1850
they were in Lycoming. I think they were both in the civil war, but haven't
been able to substantiate this yet.
