I'm working on the Clarks (Clerks in earlier times, Cliereagh in Gaelic) from Argyll. They were slate quarriers in Glencoe and came from the island of Easedale (Eisdiel in Gaelic) via the island of Lismore (Lhis mor) along the coast of Argyll. If anyone links up, I have some fascinating stories (probably exaggerated). I can take some of the line back to the 1740's.

Violett Bosworth, b. 16 Oct 1789 d. 18 Feb 1871, was the 4th wife of John Woodbury, b. 17 Mar 1777 Barre, MA. They lived in Richfield, Otsego Co. NY. There were no children, but she was step-mother to his children from previous wives. I have info that indicates she was a relative (either wife or daughter) of Israel Clark, who I suspect is related to my Timothy Clark, b. 3 June 1794 CT or MA. Timothy and his wife Sophia (Smith) Clark, named their first two children Woodbury and Violett. Sophia's mother Susan (Densmore) was a sister of John Woodbury's first wife Sophia. Hi. My name is Grant Clark, son of William Alexander Clark born in Canada in 1917. He is son of William Chalmers Clark who emigrated to Canada from Montrose Scotland near the turn of the century and was joined there by the brothers Alexander, Arnot and Tom and by sister Janet. Another sister, Marion, stayed in Scotland. The Clarks in Canada moved west living in Winnipeg, Saskatoon (Outlook) and finally Vancouver. If you think that the Alexander Clark listed above (he did live in Winnipeg) might be the correct person, a good reference source would be my father's cousin Margery Clark Kapas. She has made an extensive study of the Clarks and related families (including a lot of Stewarts) both in Canada and Scotland. She can be reached care of the British Columbis Geneological Society, P.O. Box 94371, Richmond, B.C., V6Y 2AB. Their web address is npsnet.com/bcgs/. If you have trouble contacting her, please e-mail me and I can provide a phone number.
