Surname: CLARK, CONNOR, PITT
-------------------------
Hello From New Zealand
I am searching for Edwin CLARK who was born in Scotland and married Ann
CONNOR who was born in Cork. They had one daughter that I know of, Ann
CLARK, who was born in 1831 in Liverpool UK. They were Roman Catholic.
Ann CLARK was also known as Mary Ann CLARK (Mary possibly being a Christening
or Confirmation name). Ann or Mary Ann CLARK married Thomas PITT and some
of their children were born in Ombersley, Worcestershire !!! (Travellers?)
Edwin (or he may be known as Edward) was a Sea Captain, based in Liverpool,
and when his wife, Ann (CONNOR) died in about 1833 he married again.I have
no idea of his birth, death or marriage dates.
The information I have is sparse, and I would dearly love to find someone
who is researching the same families or any of them.
Regards
Leith
This is long so if you are not familiar with any Clark
lines between mid-1700s and 1839 in Culpeper County, VA...you might as well
delete now.
The saga:
I found in the Handley Archives in Winchester, VA, Mrs. Hardesty papers on
Reuben and Joseph Clark, probably done about 30 - 40 years ago.
Her notes said that Joseph Clark's will, (in Culpeper Co.)
named William Clark and Reuben Clark as SONS of Joseph.
I just received a copy of Joseph Clark's will from the
courthouse and actually it says: "I do nominate and
appoint my SON William D. Clarke and Reuben T. Clarke my
executors." No doubt about son being singular.
In this 5 page will Joseph very carefully enumerates the
gifts to his children....and Reuben is not among them.
Now I know that sometimes the older sons had already
received their inheritance and therefore are not mentioned
in a will....however, combining the singular SON and no
mention of anywhere else in this will I feel I need to
assume Reuben Clarke is a cousin or nephew. (Joseph Clark
did have a brother, Reuben, born 1743 which would have made
him 96 at the time of Jospeh's demise in 1839. Tooooo
old!)
Since Joseph had considerable wealth he must have been a
prominent man in the area....so I hope there are those on
this list who are familiar with the family.
Joseph's father was William Clark. From other
researchers...the known sons of William by wife Ann
(Taliaferro James) were William (Jr), John, James and
Reuben and by second wife, a Sarah or Martha Foster...
Ambrose, Larkin, George, Joseph and Robert. Perhaps the
Reuben named by Joseph in his will was the son of one of
his brothers.
I would really appreciate any help or insight on these
thoughts.
By the way, Joseph also had land in Madison County.
Thanks for your considerations.

To Faye Alley,
I am researching Thomas A. Clark, born about 1860 in NC. My Thomas
married Rebeca Carlil in Buncombe Co. NC between January-March 1877. He
is on the 1880 census record with Rebeca, living in the home of his
mother in law, Sarah Carlisle. Could this Thomas be a son of your
Clarks? I can find nothing on him except he was a laborer. No 1890
census and in 1900 Rebeca was living with children, Maggie V. 21, Lois
19, Fred, Elsa and Otto 6/12. If you can shed ANY light on any of these
people I would greatly appreciate it.
I just got back from Buncome, Asheville, NC and Spring Creek Township in
Madison Co. where they lived and the records only go back to 1912. Many,
many Clarks are listed from then in both areas, but none of mine. It;s
like they picked up and left. But where did they go?
Thanks for any help. Margaret sunsethillcem(a)juno.com

Seeking to connect with a descendant of William N. Clark from Titusville,
Pa. He was married to Martha Heaton. William was wounded in battle in
Virginia and died from his wounds in 1862. Pension application listed
William A. but pension was granted to William N. Clark in 1864.
William and Martha were residing in Pine Grove, Warren Co., Pa. in 1852

Siblings of Martha Heaton are Martin Heaton, Almena Clarinda Heaton, and

A daughter of Martha Heaton was Mrs. A. C. Waid, (Amanda or Almena Clark's

Guardian of the children of William N. Clark as shown on his pension

I'm searching for the parents/siblings of Absolum Thomas CLARK, who married
Malinda MILLS in Henry Co., VA in 1842.
Absalom and Malinda moved to Wayne Co., WV, where they settled permanently.
Malinda was the daughter of John and Kate MILLS. She had at least one
brother, James Peyton MILLS, but I know of no other family on either side.
Does anyone out there have any information on this CLARK family???

Ok, talk about DEAD ENDS! I'm trying to locate family or the movements
of my husband's Grandfather, William Thomas
Clark [no b. or d. dates available]. He was born in Social
Circle, Ga. and on 5-17-1911, he married Alice Clara Ivey [1889-1983]from
Camak, Ga. in Barnett, Ga. Unfortunately, William Thomas Clark left his
family in the early 1920s and never came back. We have know idea of where
he went but he was [we are told]a railroad freightcar conductor. If you
can shed any light on him or a Clark family in Social Circle that might
be connected, please contact me. Thanks much.
I have a grandfather John Levi Clark who was born in 1870 in Indiana. Do you
have birthdates for Levi's son John Clark? Or any other information?

Surname: Clark, Clarke, Leavitt, Cook, Elliot
-------------------------
My late Mom's research showed her g-g-grandfather to be John Clark, Jr
of Campton, NH, son of John Clark and Lydia Leavitt. That has proven to
be wrong.
So, I am back to looking for the family of a John Clark, Jr, b.17 Sep 1788,
Holderness, Grafton, NH, who married 4 Mar 1812, Plymouth, NH, Sally/Sarah
Cook, b.20 Nov 1784, dau of Lieut Moody Cook and Sarah Elliot. My John
Clark and Sarah Cook had five children: Charles/1815, Moody/1818, John
N./1820, Sarah/1821 and Lydia/1826, all born in Campton, Grafton, NH, and
all moved to LaSalle Co, IL in 1839. [Refs: Baldwin's History of LaSalle
Co, IL, and Stearns' History of Plymouth, NH, Vol II]
In the process of researching this, I made a Gedcom file of the entire
George K. Clarke book, "Genealogy of the Descendants of Nathaniel Clarke
of Newbury, Mass. Ten Generations 1642-1885", 2nd Ed. (Boston, Press of
T.R. Marvin & Son. 1885)
If you would like a copy of the Gedcom, send an email to million(a)cusave.com
-- I will return your email via Reply, with the 354KB Gedcom attached.
Any help you can provide identifying the correct family of my John Clark,
Jr, b.17 Sep 1788, would be appreciated (but not required).
Hello CLARKE/CLARK cousins,
The CLARKE-L (with an E) list is the original, main list and has the most subscribers
it also includes discussion of the CLARK (no E) surname. (You could consider
it the CLARK(E)-L list.) List members have always been encouraged to join the
CLARKE (with an E) surname list. Each list has a prepend in the subject line
[CLARKE] or [CLARK] so you are able to determine which list it came from.
Thank you for your cooperation and tolerance as I have tied to let some of you
on the list express your opinions on the various topics discussed this week.
It is now time to return to "on topic" discussion... "Looking for..., Seek
a connection to..., etc..." Let's all get back to the discussion of CLARK /
CLARKE genealogy, only.

OTOH I have not participated in the source discussion but I feel it is
not only important but also on topic. Nothing we discuss concerning
Clark is relevant if these things are not understood. I don't view this
discussion as complaints or off topic opinions.
There are always new people signing up, just getting started, and I
think its also beneficial for us experienced folks (20 plus years for
me) to remind ourselves occasionally about these matters.
So not only is this discussion on topic, but for me its been the most
beneficial discussion posted since I signed on again.

Requiring genealogy to the church is not a requirement. I suggest you learn
before you say. We must remember people are human and mistakes are made no
matter the source or the document. I suggest we get on with research and
get away from slamming.

I appologize for the misspelling, Harman. I did not "copy" your name.
One tiny thing I've learned in doing genealogy, look at all possible
spellings... :-)) The census taker may have had a short-term memory
deficit just as I did! I did "qualify" myself as not being an expert in
my remarks, however.
Now Harman, I was not attacking you nor Dave. I was merely questioning
why the rest of us on this list should accept a judgement on resources
from any of the rest of us on this mailing list. I personally dislike
obituaries as a resource, yet some people swear by them. I am open
enough to accept that an obituary might be a "lead" which should be
followed up. I would hope that many researchers would be intelligent
enough to realize that ALL "leads" should be backed with more definitive
sources.
Whenever I share data with someone for the first time, I try to make it
clear that all data is not verified, and to attribute the resource from
which it came. When I say "resource", I do not mean "source" in the
formal, accepted sense.
Regards,
Charlotte Clarke Geier

Patty,
I have no information on your line. Oddly enough, I have a sister named
Patty and a grandmother named Bertha Clark (She was Bertha Vashti Barnes).
She married my grandfather James Oscar Clark and they lived in Farmington

Isn't it interesting how families have parallels? I wish you luck in your

Surname: Clark, Corbin, Garrett
-------------------------
The following is an excerpt from my ggrandfather's "Life Story". His name
was Grover Cleveland Clark and he married Mary Frances Medditeranean (Meddie)
Garrett. His father was William Thomas Clark who married Malinda Susan
Corbin. Her father was Mack Corbin. (The family has always said that the
Corbins were of Native American descent but I can find nothing on that)
I believe this family left the area of Stephens County, GA to come to Pelzer,
SC. William Thomas had a brother named Clem who stayed in Georgia. I would
appreciate any help in locating information about the family prior to the
move to SC.
"He was borned in a sawmill shake, in, GA on the Tugulo river some place
near Tugulo Church, his Dad was W. Tom Clark and his Mother was Malinda
Corbin Clark. He, this boy, was borned on the 22nd day of June in the year
of 1889. And some time in the year of 1893 or there about, this boys Dad
and Mack Corbin walked from there to the lower mill at Pelzer, SC."
