Hi, Has anybody checked the 1850 Hamilton Co., IL census. (See fam 141/141)
There is a JACOB CLARK b. ca 1802 in NC m. Kassey Unknown b. ca 1807 in NC
with the following children: Abraham age 21, Sarah A. age 19, Ellender age
14, William age 11, Plisinah age 8, Delila age 6, Isaac and Marietta both age
2. From another source I know that they had a daughter, Elizabeth, abt 18
who, by then, was married to James Garvin (fam 180/180). And by 1860 census,
Harriett and Emeline had been born ca 1851 and 1852 respectively. And BTW
Kassey was listed as "Katharine" on 1860 census. Census indicated that their
first four (which incl Elizabeth) were born in TN before migrating to IL.
Jacob and Kassey are (one of) my brick walls. Who were their parents?
I couldn't help noticing how close the "first names" of my Clarks were to
this query names.
As a matter of info: 1850 census--A few families away (fam 136/136) there was
another CLARK family. John and Phoebe age 54 and 46, both b. VA, migrated
thru OHIO and into IL abt the same time as Jacob and Kassey, above, although
I cannot positively connect them to each other. Had nine children who ALSO
had similiar first names.
Hope this helps and if you can solve my brick wall, please post your
possibility and I will give you my e-mail add.
Does anyone know of any of these Clarks:
Maggie V. b. Sept 1878 NC
Lois b. Jan 1881 NC
Fred b. March 1886 NC
Elza b. May 1895 NC
Otto b. Dec. 1899 NC
These are children of Rebeca Carlyle or Carlile and Thomas A. Clark. Tom
was born in NC about 1860 and Rebeca was born in SC about 1858. Rebeca
was alive thru at least 1910 in or near Sandy Mush, Buncombe Co. NC, but
Tom was only on the 1880 census, then never again.
Can anyone help me with these. I can't find any of these children after
that either. My grandmother was the first chld of Rebeca and father
unknown. She was born in Sandy Mush in 1876. Mamie or Jimimi Jane.
Grandmother was Salla or Sally or Sarah Carlyle or Carlile or Carslile or
various spelling.
Mamie was the governess for Margaret and Lottie Worley in Asheville. She
lived with the Worleys from the time she was 8 until she married in 1901.
She then moved to Washington and then Idaho. Mamie married William
Joseph Wilson of Asheville.
Thanks for any help on this.
Margaret

Hello
I am seeking ANY information on a LUCY JENNINGS, born Virginia abt. 1804
and died in Overton, Rusk Co., Texas abt. 1895.
LUCY JENNINGS was married to ISHAM CLARK before 1820 and they had
probably nine children, the names I know are as follows: JOSEPH J. born
1820, JOHN THOMAS CLARK, born 1830, CHARLES, born abt. 1832, JAMES A.,
born 1835, ROBERT, born abt. 1836, GEORGE E., born abt. 1839, and LUCY,
born about 1840.
LUCY and ISHAM migrated to Texas sometime between 1850 and 1860 according
to census records. They first settled in Smith County, Texas, and later
in Rusk County, Texas.
I don't know anything about LUCY JENNINGS and would very much like to
know something about her family such as parents and siblings. One of her
sons, JOHN THOMAS CLARK was my gg grandfather.

Hi,
The only Louis I have in my file is the son of David and Pearl, and David
was b. in Clark Co., IL. Louis probably was, because that's where they
still lived in 1920. Joyce Smith
My Louis (Lewis) was born in Indiana, Hamilton county. I don't know for
sure if I found his parents. I did find a Clark in Camden county Missouri in
the census of 1850. His name is Fielam Clark born Virginia and Sarah born
in Kentucky. Louis was injured in the Civil War at a battle in Neosho,
Missouri. In the census there is no record in the ones that I have of the
birthplace of Louis' parents. So this could be a long shot.
The children in the census of 1850 were Ambraham ( I thin they mean Abraham),
Daniel, Ambrose, Fredric, Francis, Louis, Lucinda, and James.
Sandy
Do you have the name of your Lewis/Louis Clark's father? Or know where he
came from? It's really a longshot, based on the first name, but I am locating
descendants of a family of Tn. Clarks, the eldest, Lewis P.or D. Clark being
a Methodist minister. The name Lewis seems to pop up here & there in the
lineage, & there are a couple of sons who were b. in Tn. but beyond that,
have no further data on them. Some of them moved from the area. As I said, it
really is a longshot. If we could find out your man's father's name, which
you are probably looking for, that would show the tie-in, or not. If you have
any thoughts about this, let me know.

I am looking for a Louis (Lewis) H.C.H. Clark, born 1842 in Hamilton County,
Indiana. Moved to Missouri in in 1850 or 1860's. He fought in the Civil War
for the Union and was wounded in Nesho, Missouri.
He married Caroline Dugan Bennette widow of Abel Bennette. She had two
children by Abel, George and Mary J.
Louis and Caroline lived in Dallas, Camden and Laclede counties in Missouri.
They had four children William Henry, Manerva (Minerva), Thomas Irvin and my
grandfather Ambrose Ruddle. Their birth dates are from 1866 - 1876.
Hope this rings a bell with someone. Thanks, Sandy

Hi,
My Clarks are descended from William Clark and Mary Anne Mattingly. Their
son William Joseph Clark was b.1838 in IN. He married Martha Jane Brothers
(b. OH) and they lived in Jasper Co., IL, where he died in 1925. Their
children were Rose, Della, Joseph, Jennie, Robert Ledger (my grandfather),
Augustus, Sarah, William, and Martha. As a tidbit, according to the mother
of a distant cousin, "every Clark I ever knew was short and stocky." Family
tradition ( notoriously unreliable, I realize) says we're direct
descendants of George Rogers Clark, but I have found no proof of that to
date. Jasper Co., however, was originally part of Crawford Co., right
across the Wabash River from the Vincennes area, which is the home of the
George Rogers Clark memorial. So there may be a grain of truth to the
tradition, after all. Can anyone help me out?
The only other thing I know about the family is that at least the older
generations were Catholic.
Joyce Smith (nee Clark, adopted Ault)
