I Found this document in the Indiana State Library Genealogy section and
have attempted to reprint it here just as it is on the original
document, errors and all. Pages shown are the title page and pages
95-98. I am sure that there is more information in the local area of
Orange, Madison or Culpeper county Virginia, you will notice that this
is volume III. Don't know what volume I and II may contain and if
there may be a IV or V. Hope this helps someone.
I am still trying to prove links to William Clark and his son Reuben
Clark, who was married to Bathsheba Sampson. I believe Reuben had a son
James Clark who had at least two sons; Thomas G. and James Madison who
both later came to Wayne county Indiana. If you have any connections
drop me a line.

ORANGE COUNTY VIRGINIA FAMILIES
Volume III
Contents of this volume contain the second half of Browning's Extracts,
a typewritten loose-leaf book kept by one W. Browning county clerk of
Orange County, Virginia from 1930 to 1936. Much of this data was taken
from loose papers and supplemented by items not recorded and are
believed to be the only source for this valuable information. The list
of King's Attorneys, Surveyors, Churchwardens, Justices, Sheriffs,
Ministers, Magistrates are valuable for those seeking membership in
patriotic organizations Brief sketches of many Orange County Families
that are connected by marriage include the Ballards, Brockmans,
Catterions, Dowells, Salmons, Rhodes, Chapmans, Collins, Ellis, Humes,
Macons, Masons, Montagues, Quisenberrys, Simms, Terretts, Towles,
Clarks, Smoots and Willis of Orange. Bible records of Graves, Shotwell,
Edwards, Salmon, Mahannes, Marshall and Durrett.

William bought a plantation on Robinson River extending back to the base
of Thoroughfare Mt. Were his immediate neighbor was Stockeley Towles who
had been a neighbor in Middlesex Co., of Edward Clark/
William's descendants are not in agreement concerning his parents. One
group says he was the son of Edward Clark and his 3rd wife, Ann
Christopher who were married in Middlesex Co., in 1706. In the "Parish

JAMES CLARK
James Clark, son of William and Ann (James) Clark was born in
1737 and died in 1789. He married Mary Marston, daughter of Hugh and

Stokeley Towles and his first wife, Ann Vallott.

All the foregoing signed a deed Jan. 25, 1823, to Joseph Hume, conveying
land they had inherited from their Uncle Ambrose, and seem to have left
Virginia, in masse except Thomas, who died not long after in Orange Co.,
Va.
James Clark's will is in Book C., p. 342, Culpeper Co., Va., date June
7, 1789, proven Sept. 21, 1789. In this will he lends to wife for 10
years a tract of land in Orange Co., Va., and "This tract of land I now
live on in Culpeper Co." He appointed his wife and brothers William and
Joseph executors. The plantation in Orange Co., was about three miles
from the town of Orange on the road to Madison Mills; the other in
Culpeper Co., now Madison, on the south side of Roberston River, and
apparently including the present village of Locustdale. Immediately
south of this Madison Plantation was that of his brother, William;
Rueben's plantation was near Culpeper. John was south of the Rapidan,
east of the present village of Rapidan.
Capt. James Clark served in the Revolution from Culpeper Co.

I found the brother (Oramel Clark) of the ancestor I am looking for linked
with a particular book. There aren't too many Oramels about, so I am hopeful
that this may be the lead I am looking for.
This is how the book is listed at Ancestry.com:
Clark gen: some des. of Dan. Clark of Windsor, Ct. By Emma Lee Walton. New
York, 1913. (278p.):345
I have subsequently found a Daniel Clark of Windsor CT married to a Mary
Newberry on July 13, 1644 listed here and there.
Does anyone know this book? I have checked used book sites to no avail.

I am trying to sort out my 24 Clark(e) ancestors from New Haven in the
1600's. Anyone out there have any info on John Clark from Eng., father of
John Clark, hus. of Rebecca Marvin and/or George CLARKE from Kent, Eng.,
b.abt. 1610. Was Thomas, hus. of Susannah Woodruff from either of these
families? Much thanks...Mari
Hi Everyone,
New lister looking for:
Cordelia Eloise CLARK, born probably in Iowa, 1825. She married Christopher MISNER in Mt. Morris Illinois in 1850. Crossed the Oregon trail, settled in Washington, died in 1917.
Can't locate ancestors names. Some mention of her being from the STARKS of "Revolutionary fame", whatever that means.
Thanks!!

Subject: [CLARK] Calculating Dates from Ages
I came across this gem at the beginning of summer, and have found it to be
very useful. I hope someone else can benefit from it.
Stefani Evans
from Heir-Lines, Warren County Ohio genealogy bulletin, Summer 1987, p. 56
Question: How do you calculate the birth date if you know the death date
and
the age at death? Example: Died June 15, 1832, age 66 years, 5 months, 16
days
1. To calculate birth date go backwards from the death date: using age at
death, subtract first days, then months, then years. Borrow from the next
column when necessary.
2. To check your accuracy come forward from calculated birth date: using
age at death, add first days, then months, then years. Your final answer
should be the death date. See example below:
Year Month Days
1832 6 [June] 15
-16 days
1832 5 [May] 31
-5 months
1831
- 66 yrs
1765 12 [Dec] 31
Birth date: 31 Dec 1765
Proof:
1765 12 [Dec] 31
+16 days
15
1766 1 [Jan]
+5 months
6 [June] 15
1766
+ 66
1832 June 15
Death date: 15 June 1832

I am looking for my brickwall. My grandfather was John Levi Clark. He was
born in 1871 in either Indiana or Kentucky. He married my grandmother Julia
Olive Richart in Indianapolis in 1907. He also had a first wife, but I do
not know her name. My father is John Lee Clark (b.1917) and his brother was
Joseph Clark ( b.1907 or 1908).
I am having difficulty tracing my Clark family roots to Indiana. Any help
would be appreciated.
Sally
I would welcome any comments, corrections, additions, subtractions, or
information regarding my Clark connection. Most of this is pieced
together from several sources and little has been documented. Thank you.

I have an uncle Will Clark who ended up in California, but he came from
Mars, Butler County in Pa. He may have married a Johnson. His father
(Joe) married Annie Johnson.
It was said that he and his brother married sisters but I too have not
been able to get anywhere with my Clark family.
good luck, Dude
There was a William Clark in Asheville, Buncombe Co. NC in 1920. He was
married to Rebecca Ingles. She died in the 20's. I have been looking
for Rebecca Carlile Clark and thought this was she, but as it turns out
from the death certificate, this wasn't mine. Mine was born in 1858 and
married Thomas Clark, born1860 in NC. No other details about him. Can
anyone help me. He was on the 1880 census in Buncombe Co. then
disappeared.
Thanks from another Margaret sunsethillcem(a)juno.com
Elizabeth,
You can find the data for the following events in the Laterday Saints Family
History Library Film #1033913. I extracted these as I thought perhaps this
Francis was Francis of New Kent, needless to say they are not the same as He
was building a family at the same time that Francis of New Kent was courting
his future wife, so the data I have is rather incomplete.
William was born to John (c 1648-1689) and Mary Clark (????-1717)
William's siblings were:
Stephen (1670 - ????)
Francis (1672-1719); married Mary Unknown
Their children:
Elizabeth (1692- before 1696)
Elizabeth (1696-
John (1698- 1710?)
Mary (1701-1703)
Frances (1706-
Henry (1719- 1724)
John (????-1689)
I hope this helps a litlle. I'm putting some more marriages into my database
this week and if I find any that appear to be connected to these, I'll let
you know.
