I am searching for information on my Clark line. They lived in Hawaii, but
my great grandfather had several brothers who lived in other parts of North
America. I am hoping to find someone else looking for their Clark who
happens to be one of George's brothers.
My great grandfather, George Richard Clark, was born in Dundee, Scotland
1843. The only information I have about his parents are their names, George
and Olive. He arrived in Hawaii about 1882, after traveling a good deal,
including France, the Falkland Islands,Argentina and Idaho. Married
Catherine Pi'ilani LANE 1884. They had 10 children - 7 sons and 3 daughters
(William, Catherine, George, Charles, John, Olive, Elizabeth, Richard, Thomas
and Charles...the first Charles died as a young child). Catherine died North
Kona, Hawaii 1900; George Clark died Kona, Hawaii 1908. George married a
second time, after Catherine's death to Dora Mossman. They had no children
together.
George brothers -
William, who ran a stagecoach line in Wyoming;
Tom, who settled in Seattle, WA;
Charles, who settled in Vancouver, BC
John, whom I know nothing about.
Any help would be appreciated!

I hate it when AOL Cuts me Off! I was editing an earlier message a few
minutes ago, and it happened again! I hope you get both messages! Charles
Henry Clark may be one of the children of John L. Clark, Sr., who was the
TWIN Brother of my father, Thomas Hughey Clark. they were born 7-26-(or
27)1896. The marriage date you give, puts Charles Henry in the age group
of my
siblings. Children of John & Callie Huntley were: Howard, Charles, Edith,
and John, Jr. Children of Tom, (aka Thomas Hughey) and Mary Ella Hembree
Are: Marguerite, Mary Elizabeth, Robert Lee, Horace Hembree, and Polly Ann.
I have much more family information, but so far have not been able to find
anyone still living. All of Tom's children are living.
If this connects with your information, please Email me at

Sorry...my Clark data base is of those born before 1800...

Hi Joe,
I received the death information on Michael Clark and Mathilda from
a letter sent to my father from a grandson of Daniel Clark ,Michael and
Mathilda's son. The letter was sent about 22 years ago. His name was
Harold Clark. He is deceased as well as my father. Michael died in
Burtville, Potter County, PA is what Harold said. Mathilda, we don't
know for sure where she died. She was alive in the1840 census, She and
Michael were in Painted Post, Steuben County, NY. Michael and
Mathilda's oldest daughter was Susannah Ellen Clark Hathaway. Susan and
her husband John were living in Hornby, Steuben Co, NY. They moved to
Port Allegeny, Mackean Co.,Pennsylvania in 1845. Michael Clark was
living with Daniel Clark his son in the 1850 census of Port Allegeny.
Daniel had moved to Port Allegeny abt 1842. Another son Avery Clark was
living next door with the in-laws of Daniel Clark. Michael Clark was
living with David and Rachel Kibbie in the 1860 Port Allegeny Census. I
have contacted both Potter and McKean Counties for an obituary. None
was found. Also Daniel Clark has an obituary, he was born supposedly in
Lawrenceville, (probably on the Steuben County side, this was a disputed
border). Anyway Daniel has a family plot with several unmarked
graves. The 1850 & 1860 census state Michael's place of birth as NY.
Harold Clark says New England. I have assumed that Mathilda Clark
possibly died in Port Allegeny area it was either that or Lawrenceville,
where Daniel was married or back to Port Allegeny. Michael was a
farmer. I have never found a land record for him. He probably was a
share cropper. From what the Librarian in Port Allegeny tells me, the
area where Daniel Clark lived (Silver Creek) was almost into Burtville,
Potter County. Daniel owned a logging business there. All the children
of Susannah Clark & John Hathaway were loggers on and off after they
immigrated West to North Ogden, Utah & Idaho. Susannah supposedly met
her husband while working as a cook in a logging camp as well.
I have tried to get more information on the logging end of it, but
have had no success so far. One thing I found out about Matilda is a
footnote to the letter that Harold Clark wrote to my father Leonard
Hathaway. He said that his grandmother's grandfather was a prussian
soldier (MASCHO) captured by Washington in Trenton, NJ and that is why
Michael settled in Tioga Co. PA(I didn't know Michael had been in Tioga
Co. until I read that letter). So very likely Matilda's maiden name is
Mascho or else her mother's maiden name is Mascho.
My question for you are you just collecting all the Clark's or do
you have a Michael Clark also?
Oh, you asked about the 1810 census. I don't know where Michael
is. There are two Michael Clark's in New York. One of them died in
Buffalo, NY . He was slightly older than my Michael. I will have to
go back and look at the 1820 & 1830 census. I believe they were only
listed in the 1830 census but not in 1820 either. There is a much older
Michael who lived down Pittsburg way.
Thanks for answering my e-mail.

Dear Heather,
I am have located the following info on Lamberton Clark:
These first two entries from the
"Historic Record of the Town of Meriden, Connecticut, 1906, Vol.1."
1) "Lamberton Clark is mentioned by Mr. Perkins as among the men
from
Meriden who served, but he enlisted in Middletown and did not move to
Meriden until some time after peace was declared. He was drummer in
Col.
Sherburne's regiment, and also served with Capt. Heart in the 1st
regiment."
2) Marriages: 1767: Record of marriages by Rev. John Hubbard,
"On November 3, 1783, Samuel Collins married to Phebe Ives
On December XIth 1783, Lamberton Clark married to Martha Rexford.
On February 12, 1784, married Ephraim Merriam to Bulah Galpin
& married Levi Robinson to Elizabeth Yale."

Okay, Heather, etal., now you have a place to look in the1790 census.
Please note that it is usual that two different families listed on the
same
page of a census MIGHT indicate that these families are related in some
way.
Good luck with your researching, I am
Ward Lee Ward
AKA The Kansas "Genie"
P.S. Heather, do you have an Erutha Dodge who married an Ambrose Ward
in your lineage?

I know I've e-mailed about my 4th great granddad born abt 1774 by
the name of Michael Clark. It seems like no one else has a Michael
Clark. Was that a strange name back in 1777. That birth date came
from
age in the 1850 and 1860 census of Port Allegeny, McKean Co, PA. I've
been told he married twice his second wife was Mathilda that comes from
their daughter Susannah Ellen. He was born in New England or New York.
One of my relatives found a Michael Clark born 20 July 1777 in
Middletown, Middlesex , Connecticut. He married Hulda Tryon of
Glastonbury, Hartford, Connecticut. They were married the 6th of May
1821 in Glastonbury, Hartford, Connecticut. If this is my ancestor,
then he moved to New York by 29 July, 1822 where my grandmother
Susannah Ellen was born in Hector, Tompkins Co., NY.
Does anyone else have a Michael Clark relative of that time period?
1774-1777. If this is my 4ggrandfather then his father was Lamberton
Clark w/ Mother Sarah Foster. Children: Lamberton 1760, Ambrose 1763,
George 1768, Daniel 1770, Enoch 1772, Michael 1777, Seth 1779, all born
in Middletown, Middlesex Co., Connecticut. This line goes back to John
Clark Jr. born 1637 New Haven, New Haven, Conneticut. If they were
farmers then maybe Michael had to move to New York to find land with all
those brothers ahead of him to inherit.
What does everyone think? Do you think I can stretch the name
Mathilda to Hulda? for Michael's wife. Is there anyone related to this
family? There are very few Michael Clark's listed as head of household
in the census Indexes for 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Heather...
Most of the relative few Michael Clarks that I have in my 17,100 Clark
(born before 1800) name data base came from Ireland. It's unusual to see
Michael as a name connected to old line Clark American families.
That could be an advantage in your case, making it easier to trace your
ancestors.
I have from your data:
------------------------------------------------------
Name Michael CLARK, my #17285
Sex: M
Born ca 1777 Probably New England or NY
Baptized
Died 8 Feb 1864
Buried
Other 1850-1860 of Port Allegeny, McKean Co., PA
Ref
Occupation
Wife: Matilda (Mathilda) ___________
Of Hector, Schuyler Co., NY... Possibly a resident of PA for a while...
And
Name Matilda (Mathilda) ___________
Sex: F
Born Abt 1800 Probably NY
Baptized
Died 26 Jan 1847 NY
Buried
Other 1822 Of Hector, Schuyler Co., NY
Ref
Occupation
Husband: Michael CLARK
Best guess for birth date & location... 2nd wife...
Had daughter Susannah Ellen CLARK, b. 29 Jul 1822, Hector, Schuyler Co.,
NY.
-------------------------
Regarding Michael: He died 8 Feb 1864, was that in "Port Allegeny,
McKean Co., PA"?
Regarding Matilda (Mathilda) ___________, She died 26 Jan 1847. Did she
die in "Hector, Schuyler Co., NY"?
Have you checked the obits in the local papers? Perhaps they will mention
her maiden name. How about gravestones and Church burial records?
Regarding the 1840 Census: Were you able to locate a Michael Clark in
Hector, Schuyler Co., NY" as the head of a household? That would tie
down his location in 1840 and then based upon the ages of the people in
his household, you could do the same thing for 1830 and 1820.
The 1810 census will be the clue to see if you can still find him and in
what state.
In the 1850 PA census, are there any children living with him or nearby
that could be from his first marriage? Or other children in addition to
Susannah Ellen? Perhaps somebody on the list has those children in their
line and could provide additional info or clues to expand the line...
I've added the info you furnished on the Michael from CT (I had his
father Lamberton and his ancestors already in my data base) and also your
Michael and would appreciate any more info that you uncover as it
pertains to any Clarks that are born before 1800, in any lines.
Good Luck & let me know how you make out...

Susan Clark m Frank Trammell c1920. I am looking for this family to help a friend that is kin to them. She does not have computer so she asked if I would help. If anyone would connect with this line it may be a missing link or info someone needs. Her mother Dorothy Otaree Trammell was orphaned at age 2 along with older siblings and went to
Tioga Grayson Co Tx to live with Clark relatives. Sorry info so sketchy but it is all I (and she) have. Susan had two brothers Will thomas Clark who married Myrtle Mae Nash and Joe Sidney Clark who married Ada Catherine Nash. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks Glitz
Need info on the following
1910 census, Lawrence County, list William D. Clark with wife Anna and children - Edgar born 1899; Hattie B born 1902; George B. born 1904; Chester R. born 1906; Emmery born 1909 (Emory).
Edgar Clark on his Social Secutity appl. dated November 24, 1936, gave his birth October 30, 1898, parents Loranzo Clark and Anna Steed. On the marriage record for Edgar his birth "age 24 on October 30th". The marriage date December 25, 1923, parents Wm. D. Clark and Anna Steed. In 1910 listed in the household of William and Anna Clark.
Chester R. Clark on his death certificate his birth September 23, 1906, never married, parents William Clark and Anna Steed. 1910 listed with Wm. and Anna Clark.
Emory Clark's death record - birth September 9, 1907, parents Lorenzo Clark and Anna Steed. Listed in the 1910 census with Wm. and Anna.
NEED TO CLARIFY IF POSSIBLE
The only marriage found so far for Anna Steed is the marriage to Loranzo Clark. That leaves several questions:
Was Loranzo and William the same person? Did Anna marry 2nd a William Clark? Are Anna and Loranzo Clark and Anna and William Clark different families who just happened to name their children the same with the same birth year? Not very likely.
Was your John married to a Martha Glen(Glenn)?

Would like to exchange information with the CLARK families of Guernsey Co.,
OH from about 1820 to the late 1800's. I am particularly interested in two
John CLARK families who came to Guernsey Co. about 1819, the other about
1825. One John was married to Jane, the other to Martha. The John and
Martha CLARKs are my gg grandparents. Bruce Koons
I know I've e-mailed about my 4th great granddad born abt 1774 by
the name of Michael Clark. It seems like no one else has a Michael
Clark. Was that a strange name back in 1777. That birthdate came from
age in the 1850 and 1860 census of Port Allegeny, McKean Co, PA. I've
been told he married twice his second wife was Mathilda that comes from
their daughter Susannah Ellen. He was born in New England or New York.
One of my relatives found a Michael Clark born 20 July 1777 in
Middletown, Middlesex , Connecticut he married Hulda Tryon of
Glastonbury, Hartford, Connecituct. They were married the 6th of May
1821 in Glastonbury, Hartford, Connecticut. If this is my ancestor
then he moved to New York by 29 July, 1822 where my grandmother Susannah
Ellen was born in Hector, Tompkins Co., NY.
Does anyone else have a Michael Clark relative of that time period?
1774-1777. If this is my 4ggrandfather then his father was Lamberton
Clark w/ Mother Sarah Foster. Children:Lamberton 1760, Ambrose 1763,
George 1768, Daniel 1770, Enoch 1772, Michael 1777, Seth 1779 all born
in Middletown, Middlesex Co., Connecticut.
Totally Frustrated,
Heather
Good morning. I am still looking for information about a Ruth Mansfield
Clark who was living in or visiting Hoadly, Virginia in 1933. Hoadly is in
Prince William County. She gave birth to a baby girl in the Alexandria, VA
hospital in January of 1933 then returned to Hoadly. I would appreciate
hearing from any members of the list if you have come across this name.
Maybe you have seen the name Mansfield used as a first name in the Clark
line. I have been searching for over seven years with no luck.
Thanks to all.
Shirley
