Hi all! Spring is here and many will be out and about
working on collecting data on their ancestors. Sharing
on the list is also a great way to possibly connect
with a new cousin. Consider this a Roll call from your
List Admin. But PLEASE ......... DO NOT HIT THE REPLY
TO MY MESSAGE!
CHANGE the SUBJECT LINE to REFLECT YOUR OWN MESSAGE.
DO NOT put "ROLL CALL" as the sole subject line. List
the names in the subject line. It helps to include the
time frame and area.
Please be sure to customize your subject lines to
reflect your research:
In the message body, here are some good things to
list:
1. Names
2. Dates
3. Areas your ancestors lived in
4. Collateral family names that tie in with your main
surnames.
Keep your messages short and to the point, thus a
better chance that other
list members will read all of your message. If it is
too long they may not
read all of it.
If you have any successes or brick walls, please tell
us about them! Please
also remember NOT to hit the reply button without
changing the SUBJECT line to reflect what YOUR message
pertains to. For instance ----DO NOT hit the reply
button in response to my post.
Begin a new e-mail and put in your information and
send to the list. I thank you for the opportunity to
meet you all and hope that we can all work
together to find our ancestry!
Please remember that you do need to put something in
the SUBJECT line. Many people delete messages without
any subject. In addition, the automated system at
RootsWeb will most likely reject any posting without a
subject line.

Thank you, Kathie Harrison

I am looking for William Clark born 1740 in Virginia and removed to Estill Co
KY. His wife is Leah Johnson. Their son, and my direct line is his son David,
Clay Co KY who married Polly Fox. We believe Polly is David's second wife,
and not the mother of William Clark who removed to Indiana from Clay Co KY.
Phyllis
Greetings Fellow Clarks!
Looking for leads on family / descendants of Johnson (or Johnston) Clark and
Jemima (unknown maiden name) Clark who married in (unknown co) in Pennsylvania
in 1794, bought land and lived in Harrison County VA from late 1790s to about
1810. They had several children.....one of whom was Joshua Clark (my ggg
grandfather). Had another daughter Mahala or Matilda or Minerva. Johnson
abandoned Jemima about 1810. She raised the children & was left with all of his debts
to pay or settle. She tracked him down (through Ohio) in Franklin Co.
Indiana and sued him for divorce in Franklin Co Indiana Chancery court in 1828. I
have a copy of her deposition that indicates "he has taken up with another
woman and had by her several children." It is possible that he married Elizabeth
Harris in Jan. 1811 in Butler Co. Ohio. IF that is my Johnson Clark, he is
buried in Hancock Co. Illinois, but the connection has never been proven.
According to Jemima's deposition, he purchased land "in that part known as
the New Purchase." He was ordered to pay her alimony (which he failed to pay).
Consequently, the court ordered his Franklin Co. IN land sold at sheriff sale
(sold to a James Conwell) and the Harrison Co. VA land be given to Jemima.
She later sold the VA land to Cyrus Ross -- who may have been the 2nd husband of
Sarah Bigler Righter. One of Sarah's son's,
Peter Righter, was the witness / guardian when Joshua Clark married Rachel
Sapp ("an orphan" of parents Elias Sapp and Elizabeth Coon) in Harrison Co.
Joshua and Rachel are buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington, Clinton Co.
Ohio.
Johnson may have had a brother named Abner Clark. Also, Johnson may have
been married to a Fannie Everts (family tradition) at one time. I don't have
info on her either, although at one point Johnson & Jemima owned land next to a
Walter Everett near Fox Grape Creek in Harrison Co. Joshua, her son, was bound
to Walter Everett by the overseer until he reached age 21. Other neighbors
were Isaac & Bethia Stackhouse.
Would love a breakthrough on Johnson & Jemima's other children's names, her
maiden name, eventual resting place, her other children's names, etc.
Thanks!
