Families indicate that James Preston CLARK I looked 100% Indian and that

Cherokee Indian blood in both James Preston CLARK, I and Sara Elizabeth
STEPHENSON.

Dear Pat:
I have Alexander C. Clark and Eliza Keyes and children, but did not have his
parents, siblings, etc. This is a great connection. I have Jesse L. Clark and
Susan Pauley and their children but not Jesse's parents. I also have William
Clark and Sarah Tucker and I have Moses Clark (abt 1770) and Sarah Pemberton
(abt 1770) m. Dec 23, 1795, Pittsylvania Co., VA as parents of William Clark but
do not have other children listed. I have also suspected that Jesse and
William are brothers but have no evidence yet to support that.
I am descended from Alexander Clark (abt 1833) and Elizabeth Pauley (January
1842) m. March 3, 1858, Kanawha Co., WV/VA through William.
I will type out descendancy chart and we can compare notes. I'll try to post
it later tonight.
Thanks,

Hello List,
Alexander (below) is a 2nd. cousin of George Rogers Clark (19 Nov 1752) & his siblings. Some of the folks listed below lived around the Kanawha County, Virginia/West Virginia area.
I've been trying to find out if there is any connection to Jesse CLARK (born abt. 1800) who married Susan PAULEY on January 16, 1820, in Kanawha County, Virginia and William CLARK (born abt. 1802) who married Sarah TUCKER on August 18, 1825, in Kanawha County, Virginia. I think that Jesse and William were brothers but I'm not sure yet.

has anyone hear about this book about the Clark family:
From Sea to Shining Sea by James Alexander Thom
There is a family Bible which has alot of information on this CLARK family
and I
understand that is in the possession of
CLARK, Raymond now residing in West VA
some interesting trivia in Bible: a CLARK was a prisoner on a ship and died
on ship;
a CLARK was scalped by an Indian
More trivia heard by family members:
James Preston CLARK b. 1870 who married Sarah E. STEPHENSON (also known as
?Betty) is that he looked 100% Indian. Also Sarah E. STEPHENSON was suppose to
be 3/4 Indian (tho wonder about that fraction).
Also wondering name of cemetery where Iona Jewel CLARK DAHLBERG is buried;
have been told in South Charleston, Kanawha County, West VA.
I have received about 3 e-mails thus far of possible kin to William CLARK of
Lewis & Clark; has a genealogy been done on William CLARK? and if so where to
go to look at this genealogy? Wonder why the family's passed down to their
descendants of being related to William Clark or was this wishful thinking or ???
If anyone can visit the cemeteries in Charleston and Cabin Creek and post all
the Clark family's buried there sure would be appreciated I am sure by
everyone. I am sure it would be quite a project. And also need the Clark family
buried at the Sunset Memorial Park in Kanawha County, ??? Charleston, West VA.
Thank you so much for the information and the e-mails I have been receiving.

Steven Dahlberg (great grandson of James Preston & Sarah E. Stephenson CLARK,
and grandson of Jewel Iona (Ione) CLARK & Carl Otto DAHLBERG) (another bit
of trivia: Jewel CLARK was working in a laundry in Kentucky but not far from W
VA border) and was where she met Carl Otto DAHLBERG who was a salesman with
very broken English)
George W Clark (my GGGrandfather) is my stone wall. I don't know where he was born. I don't know his parents or siblings. In the 1860 census, his occupation is listed as a carpenter. He worked on George McDonald's farm near Martinsburg and met Mary Ellen there.
George W Clark married Mary Ellen McDonald in Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., Virginia (now WV) about 1858. A daughter Lilly was born 16 December 1858 and a son John William (my GGrandfather) was born 31 December 1860 in Martinsburg. The next son was born 22 February 1865 in Allegany Co., Maryland. 6 others were born in Allegany Co. Between 31 December 1860 and 22 February 1865 George and family had moved to Maryland. Church records were destroyed in the Civil War and a courthouse burned down somewhere along the line.
My Grandfather told me that his father (John William) was carried (as an infant) up the B & O Railroad to western Maryland. The B & O RR went through Martinsburg. The Martinsburg area was not a nice place during the Civil War.
George W died in January 1877 at 45 years of age. So he was born about 1832.
Information from son Earl Dahlberg:
Jewel Ione or Iona aka Iona Jewel CLARK was working in a laundry in a town
(in Kentucky) close to Charleston, W VA when Carl Otto DAHLBERG met her (in the
laundry). Carl Otto DAHLBERG came to U.S. from Sweden when he was about 18 or
19 y/o. The reason so many left Sweden was due to an automatic induction into
the military. When Otto met Jewel he was a salesman with broken English.
Jewel Clark DAHLBERG was buried in a cemetery in south Charleston (Earl could
not recall the name of cemetery) also buried there are Raymond CLARK and Mary
CLARK.
Jewel was part Indian. of the Swanee Indian tribe. the reservation is located
where Kentucky/Indiana/Illinois meet.
James Preston CLARK looked 100% Indian as did Fern and Francis Clark.
One story is that a Clark married an Indian Princess.
Roger Clark son of James Preston and Sarah E. Stephenson CLARK was named
after George Rogers Clark who was the brother of William Clark (of the Lewis &
Clark fame). Yes, Rogers with an s. Earl indicated yes their family is related to

First of all, wow, I never expected a reply so quickly especially since I
posted near midnight our time last night.
Thank you so much for the obituary of "Iona Jewel Clark Dahlberg". It was
much appreciated. I will contact her son Earl and another relative for the burial
information on her.
CORRECTIONS:
Carl Otto DAHLBERG died Nov 20th, 1964 (not 1920 as in previous posted
message).
Carl lived on Judd Road in Burton (Flint), Michigan at time of his death.
Carl Otto Dahlberg is buried Flint Memorial Park in Mt Morris, Michigan. His son
Ray Chester Dahlberg died 2/21/2000 and is buried in the veteran section of
Flint Memorial Park, Mt Morris, Michigan.
And spelling correction of Aish is Amish. And Stephen Dahlberg the grandson
should be Steven.
Thank you again.

I've been doing a little research on the CLARK families around the Kanawha County, West Virginia, area. Do you know where Iona Jewel Clark Dahlberg is buried?

The daughter Jewel Clark is my cousin's grandmother. aka Jewel I. CLARK, aka
Jewel Ione CLARK. She is suppose to be full blooded Cherokee (and there is
also Blackfoot in family tree).
Jewel I. CLARK born 17 Oct 1903 in Charleston, Kanawha County, West VA. Jewel
married Carl Otto DAHLBERG in 1923 in Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky.
They migrated to Michigan and resided in Detroit, Michigan. They had 3 sons and
3 daughters, the youngest a son born in 1937. Jewel died in a car accident
middle 30's or late 30's (her age) supposedly in Kentucky.
Carl Otto Dahlberg was born May 30, 1891 in Sweden and died on Nov. 20, 1920
in Michigan. He owned property in West Virginia (which is still owned by
descendants). He also owned the Millington Inn (or Hotel) in Millington, Michigan
before it burned down. Carl Otto never remarried.
Also the Clark family is related to William Clark of Lewis & Clark.
Possible the parents of James Preston Clark (the P is possible Preston) were
Chapman Taylor Clark b. 1846 and married to Elizabeth A. Parry or Ann Eliza
Pauley (or Perry was surname) on 11/8/1869.
It is possible that Sarah E. Stephenson was from Boone County ?? Virginia or
another story is she might have been Aish or Quaker from PA.

Thank you.
