I found an interesting posting to GenWeb Bunce page for November 18,
1998.
A book titled "Walter Palmer of Charlestown and Rohoboth, MA, Stonington
CT a 400 yr. (1585-1985) Family History" written by Doris Palmer Buys
who was a Katherine Bunce Clark descendant included one family chart
from a Clark(e) (not named) descendant in a manuscript, author unknown
supposedly from the CT Historical Society two mentions of Genealogy by
Wm. Berry 1830 and research by a genealogist hired by the author (Mrs.
Buys) by the name of
Duncan Harrington.
First, the unnamed manuscript, unnamed author which lists the children
of James Bunce and Elizabeth Rayner.
Starts with Richard Bunce b. @1520 m. @1544 removed from Malmesbury to
Kent.
Edward Bunce b.@1545 m. @1565 Katharen______. 3 children
John b. @1565 m._______
Katharen b@ 1567
Richard b.@1569 m.@1585 J. Pordage of Rodmersham Eng. 2 known children
John 2nd son b.@1587
James b.@1585 m. Elizabeth Rayner
had 11 children:
Stephen b.@1605, James @1606, Elizabeth, @1608, Katheran @1610, Thomas
@1612 Simon, @1614, Richard@ 1616, John @1617,Matthew@ 1619, Ann @1621
Margaret @ 1623

Second source same "Walter Palmer" book from genealogist Duncan
Harrington
"Berry's Kentish Genealogies has a pedigree of Bunce on pp 378-79 headed
with Edward Bunce of Malmesbury who lived near Canterry at the time of
Henry VIII. His son and heir is given as John Bunce or Ottrinden
(Otterden) Kent, the lines descending through Otterden, Boughton
Malherbe and London"
"Stephen Bunce of Boughton, Malberg d. 1634 buried at St. Clement Danes,
will 1635 m. Ann Barnham, dau of Arthur Barnham son and heir of Nicholas
Barnham, sergeant at law. They had:
Matthew Bunce, eldest son m. Ann Lane dau of Richard Lane of Warwick
James Bunce second son
Stephen Bunce third son
Richard Bunce fourth son
Jane Bunce eldest dau m. Sir John Roberts of Cranbrook and the city of
Canterbury
Ann Bunce sec. dau. m. John Upton of Faversham
Elizabeth Bunce third dau. m. Samuel Smith attorney at law
Katherine Bunce, fourth dau.

Marriage of Thomas Bunce and Sarah Elseter 19 Jan 1636/37 Canterbury
Cathedral 1564-1878 by Robert Hovenden, Harleian Society (1878)
Research by Duncan Harrington discontinued due to the fact that the Kent
Co Archives Office was to be closed for renovations for one year.
Mrs. Buys "Walter Palmer author then searched for the source mentioned
"Berry's Kentish Genealogies" and found "County Genealogies, Pedigrees
of the Families in the County of Kent" London, Eng. by William Berry pp
378-79
"Edward Bunce's wife is not included, daughter is Catherine; his son
John had a son named
James of Ottrinden m. Elizabeth dau of Matthew Rayner ob 1606 bur. at
Ottrinden. They had 7 not 11 children
Simon, Richard, Matthew, Ann, Margaret
James
and Stephen who married Ann Barnham d. 1634 who had 8 children
Matthew, James, Stephen, Richard, Jane, Ann, Elizabeth, Katherine"
------------------
Conclusion by Nancy Vogt. The Berry source does not include a Thomas
who we believe to be a brother of Katherine.
It seems to indicate that James Bunce d. in 1606. More questions remain
and there is a conflict between the unnamed source presumably from the
Ct. Historical Library and the Eng. source.
It would be helpful perhaps, if someone had access to this book. IGI
Ancestral file does list James Bunce b. @1542 and d. 1606 and Eliz.
Rayner and Stephen Bunce b. @ 1575 d. 1634 and Ann Barnham for what it
is worth with a daughter Katherine b. @1620. These listing as always to
be viewed cautiously.

Joe Arldt and all Wm. Clark researchers:
Thank you for your prompt response.
Your post seems to indicate that Katherine Clark died before 1681
(before William Clark). Do you have a source for her death or one which
cites a second wife? The will of Wm. Clark d. 22 Jul 1681 includes a
wife unnamed presumed to be Katherine who survived him.
The will of Thomas Bunce, (Manwaring Vol 1 283) inventory taken 3 Aug
1683 does state sister Katherine Clark but not that she was the
"daughter of James Bunce and Elizabeth Raynor" in the copy that I have.
Do you have a copy of the will which is different from Manwaring's?
It would seem that Katherine was still alive when Thomas died since her
bequest of 10 pounds was not changed
by codicil or by the court when the estate was probated.

I have noted that most of the researchers of Wm. Clark of Haddam and
their data bases or websites online state that Katherine Bunce's
parents were James Bunce and Elizabeth Rayner/Raynor. It also has been
stated that Katherine Bunce was born in 1610 in MA. If my memory of
history serves me correctly the Mass.Bay Colony was not established
until about 1636.
I would be interested in learning what source was used for parentage and
for birthdate/place.
Also does any record exist which states that Thomas Bunce's wife Sarah
was Sarah Bull? The only information I have to date only lists
Sarah-----.
