Russel Clark possibly had a daughter Clarissa born in 1814, and I have a
Clarissa Ann Clark, no birth or death dates, who married William Hyde.
If you come up with any info, let me know.

I do recall seeing the places or similar places you mention. Varnun is kind of a dead end except for the people of his time, so this would be a great find for me too. I will start digging through what I have and let you know.

I have been trying to determine if Russel Clark, who lived in Cherry
Valley, Ashtabula, Ohio, is the father of Alford or Alfred Clark, who
also lived there. One thing that has confused my search is that there
were two Russel Clarks in Ashtabula County at the same time (the first
half of the 1800s). The other lived in Ashtabula town. Russel Clark of
Cherry Valley is generally shown to be the son of John Clark and Ann
Emmons, both born in Connecticut, who moved to Oneida, New York.
However, I have collected the following information about the
town-dwelling Russel Clark:
(1) Married 15 Jan 1807 to Phoebe Lee (source:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyoneida/, Early Oneida County Marriages in the
Village of Clinton)
(2) Died 4 Oct 1848 in Ashtabula County (source: Cemetery Records in
Ashtabula County - Ashtabula Township, Chestnut Grove Cemetery). Also,
"Clark, Russel, Esq., 64, formerly of Oneida Co., NY d 10/8/48 in
Ashtabula, OH." ("10,000 Vital Records of Central New York 1813-1850"
(3) Had daughters Harriet M., born 1811, died 27 Jan 1831; Francis H.,
born 15 Mar 1813, died 7 Sep 1878; and Catherine, born 1818, died 8 Mar
1840. Harriet and Francis were both born in Clinton, Oneida, NY.
Family is buried in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, having been reinterred
there from the old Ashtabula Cemetery.
The Cherry Valley Russel was married first to Mary Ann Dewey, date
unknown, and then to Mary Ward in Ashtabula on 2 Oct. 1832, and finally
to Esther ?. This Russel died on 3 July 1862.
It seems to me obvious, then, that the town-dwelling Russel was from
Oneida and thus is most likely the son of John Clark and Ann Emmons.
Can anyone tell me if this conclusion is correct? If so, did he
actually have other children, including Alfred, George, James Madison,
and Clarissa? Or are these the children of the Russel from Cherry
Valley? And who then is the father of this Russel? I have as a
supposition Friend Clark of Bethlehem, CT, who had a son fitting
Russel's general age. I have only a few bits of information on Friend
Clark. Does anyone have additional information they could share with me?
Any information that could help me clear up this puzzle is most appreciated!

Hi,
I have a New York Clarissa Clark born in 1840. Her father was Varnun Clark born in 1812. Possibly he is a brother to your Russel or related in some other way.
