Joe,
I'm sorry this was delayed, I started writing and had to save and forgot
about it. Anyway, here is the information I have gleaned for this Clark line:
>From the Levant cemetery records I've found that William and Ann (Martin)
Clark had at least one son, William L. Clark, b. 1-19-1825 and d. 12-25-1878
who married Nancy S. Chandler, b. 7-1-1827 and d. 1885 or 1896. They are all
listed in the 1850 through 1870 Ellicott, Chautauqua Co., NY census's. I have
not yet determined where they lived prior to 1850. William's mother,
Janette Clark, was also listed in the cemetery records. She was born in Galway,
Scotland about 1762 and d. 7-7-1848. It appears that her husband may have died
elsewhere. There is no record of him in the cemetery transcription. The
census records show that William and Ann(a) adopted a girl named Belinda Day,
b. abt. 1842. She was living with them in 1850 under the surname Day and by
1860 she was listed as Belinda D. Clark. William is sure to have had
siblings, but I haven't found of them up so far.
William and Nancy S. (Chandler) had a daughter named Jane Clark who is also
buried in Levant. She was born 11-23-1850 and died 11/5/1852. They also had
two other children, James P. Clark, b. abt. 1852 and Anna L. Clark, b. abt
1858.
I found the following records in Westfield, Washington Co., NY in the 1790
US Census. They are listed consecutively.
pg. 204
Clerk, Ruben 2 males 16 and over; 1 male under 16; 4 females
Clerk, Willm 1 male 16 and over; 3 males under 16; 3 females
I am chiefly interested in them because these Clark's were living in the
same area of Washington county just prior to my Nathaniel and Dordana (Washburn)
Clark's arrival. In 1790 William and Ruben were living fairly near a man
named Nathaniel Butterfield (maybe 15-20 names between the records). The
Butterfield's lived near Adamsville in Kingsbury, Washington Co., NY. The area
was part of the town of Westfield in 1790. In the 1800 census my
g-g-g-g-g-grandfather Nathaniel Clark was living in Kingsbury where he died and was buried
in Adamsville in 1806. Nathaniel's great-grandson Ormel/Oramel Clark is also
buried in the Levant cemetery with his wife and children. There may be no
connection, but I suspect that both of these lines of Clark's could be
descendents of John O Clark and Agnes Horseman of Colrain, Ma and could be related
in some fashion. I'm just in the stages of compiling information and sources
for these Clark's. John O. Clark had a son named William Clark who married
Mary Smith. William and Mary had sons named Ruben and William who would be
about the right age to match the 1790 census records, but scant research has
been done on these two men.
