Hi Vicky...
I have a bunch of Daniels in my data base as possibilities.. Because of
the age differences, could this have been a second marriage for Daniel?
Can you give me the info from the 1850 & 1870 Census that you have? I
may have some of his other kids in my data base which may lead us to
Daniel's parents..
Also some of the later census records give the place of birth of the head
of family's parents, which offer additional clues.. Is this the case with
Daniel?
Are there any other Clark families listed near Daniel on the Census
records who could be other children or siblings?

Hi Douglas...
I have this in my notes:
>From "Genealogical Research in England"; Clarke; Contributed by Alfred
Rudolph Justice of Ardmore, PA, and communicated by the Committee on
English Research.
The will of James Clarke, Citizen and grocer of London, dated 6, December
1647; To wife Helen a one third part of all my goods, another one-third
part to my children, James, Mary, and Anne Clarke, and the remaining
one-third to my brother Richard Clarke, and if he die to his children. To
my son James the lease of my house where I now live. To wife Helen the
lease of the house where Joe Nutt the drugster dwells, and after her
death, to my daughters, Mary and Anne. Executrix: wife Helen. Proved 10
September 1649.
Yes I think we can rule out Sarah Harvey as the wife of James of New
Haven for she was the first wife of James the Grocer of London. It
appears that they had a daughter Mary who was a year old in 1633. Other 2
children, James and Anne probably with 2nd wife Helen!!

Hello,
First, Mary, thanks for taking over the list. I've been on vacation, so did
not reply sooner.
I'm researching my husband's Clark family. They settled in Ashtabula
County, Ohio, around 1820. Alfred Clark married Mary Jane Oatman of
Vermont. All I know for sure about Alfred is that he was from New York and
his parents from Connecticut. Some researchers link him to Russel Clark and
Mary Ann Dewey, with siblings George C., James Madison, and Clarissa, but
this seems to be anecdotal, and I've never been able to find proof of the
linkage.
Like Dennis (who wrote earlier), my husband has his DNA info posted at
FamilyTreeDNA. Unfortunately, Dennis and my husband are not matches. I'd
be interested in hearing from anyone else who has submitted DNA for a
Northern Clark. The Southern Clarks have quite a few entrants to their
project. It would be great to get one going for our group!

Greetings all,
My line is that of Elias Clark (1753 or 55 to 1845). Elias
emigrated from Holland prior to the American Revolution. He signed a pledge
to support the colonies in 1775 in Goshen, Orange County New York. One
biography about a grandchild states that he spent his early years in America
in Connecticut. Elias enlisted for Rev. War service in Minisink and mustered
out in Walkill (or vice-versa). Elias married a Heyltje (Hiley) Cole in the
First Presbyterian Church in Goshen New York in 1778. Elias's sons Samuel
(1785-1871) and Peter (1790-1857) were born in New Jersey according to the
1850 census. The border between NY and NJ kept changing in this area during
this period. Elias would later receive a pension for his Revolutionary War
Service (1831) in Ithaca New York.
Elias would later live in Milton in Cayuga County which later would become
Genoa/ Lansing in Tompkins County New York. Much of his family also shows up
in the 1825 census in the Catharine/Veteran area of Tioga County. This area
would later be split between Chemung and Schuyler Counties. In the 1830
Census Elias was living with an Elias Jr. in Wayne in Steuben County.
He would spend his final years living with his daughter Margaret and her
husband Jesse Jay in Villenova in Chautauqua County.
The following is what I think that I know about Elias and
Hiley's offspring:
(1.) Samuel Clark 1785-1871 an officer in the War of 1812 married Ruth Jay
the sister of Jesse Jay.
This family spent most of their lives residing in the Southport Ashland area
of Chemung County
(2.) Peter Clark 1790-1857 married a Hannah Taylor. This family was my leg
and they later (1831) migrated from Catharine in Tioga County to Medina
County Ohio. In 1849 they moved to Orleans in Ionia County Michigan. Later
most of this family migrated west to California and Washington State.
(3.) Elizabeth Clark 1789-1866 married Jonathan Frost. This family spent
their lives in the Catharine/Veteran area of Tioga-Chemung-Schuyler Counties
New York. I have located their graves in Coe Cemetery in Catharine New York
(Jackson Road).
(4.) Margaret Clark 1796-1871 married Jesse Jay who was the brother to Ruth
Jay and also a soldier of the War of 1812. This family later moved to
Villenova in Chautauqua County New York and they are buried in Hamlett
Cemetery next to Elias and Hiley.
(5.) James Clark married a woman named Mary. I have land deeds that show
land being transferred between Samuel Clark and Jonathan Frost and James and
Mary in Lansing Tompkins County New York. They may have had one daughter
that would later move to Ionia County Michigan.
(6.) Josiah Clark may have been known as Elias Jr. also. I have very little
information about this leg. I do know from the 1830 census that Josiah had
several boys (5?). I have been thinking that this line must have went west
before 1840 , but, I have not been able to determine where?
I have submitted my Clark male DNA to the Family Tree Maker Clark
DNA Study. I have tied to several other Clarks in the Rowan Group many
generations back maybe on the other side of the ocean. I am still looking
for descendants of James and Josiah/Elias Jr. Somewhere out there....
Thank you,
Dennis Clark
